1408 is my favourite film in a long time. A surreal, absurdist romp. Scared the pants off me, but also (intentionally) made me laugh every now and then. A couple of parts really stood out for me:

The end of the false-awakening section, where Cusackās character believes he had a hallucination after nearly drowning. We all KNOW he hasnt escaped the room, we all know that, but the manner in which he is deposited back there is really REALLY chilling. Just knock those walls down and there it is. Ughā¦ then thereās the phone. The slow-mo voice with the melting phone was so horrible, the message it gave was so fucking nasty, and the fact that the voice didnt really belong to anyBODY in particularā¦ eugh! Horrible horrible I TOLD YOU NOT TO GO IN 1408!!!
I generally hate horror flicks but this film is so good. Canāt wait to get the DVD, because apparently the original ending they filmed was panned by the test audiences as being ātoo much of a downerā. I canāt wait to see it as I have a very good idea as to what it might entailā¦
I mean seriously, no-emo and all, but this film is about DESPAIR. The ending they gave it for cinematic release is quite open to various interpretations, but I think they could really slam the lid on the coffin with a more resounding thud. Will find out when the DVD is released.

Finished Invisible Target a few hours ago, not badā¦ run of the mill HK movie but a fuck of a lot better than that overhyped Donnie Yen bullshit last month.
Off the top of my head, it has: Shawn Yue, Jackie Chanās son and Nick Tse lol.
The parkour is brutal but the fight pieces make up for it.

Damn good stuff. I very much enjoyed it. Vincent Cassel is the manā¦he ate up this movie almost as much as viggo did (and the fucker gets to fuck monica bellucci on the regular). The bath house scene was unbelievable. I also liked the killing of the kid before the soccer match. Viggo was a bad ass. At first I thought it was going to be he was undercover from a different rival russian mob or something. Parts def. reminded me of Ennisā Punisher MAX arc The Slavers. I didnāt really have a problem with the ending - did you just want to see the father arrested and then Viggo take out the son? I thought the image of him in the restaurant implied enough of that. I agree not quite as good as History, but I think thatās partly due to how detached we are from most of the characters and how cold the story is - itās not an easy protect my family/revenge flick.
anybody ever see death trance? I remember seeing it a couple years ago, it was awesome. it would be cool to see more full contact fight scenes in movies instead of the usual āstop an inch before you hit themā fights.

watched Lucky You this weekendā¦for a bad movie it was enjoyable.
also re-watched The Exorcist, not the re-released version. It holds up really well. I think one of the reasons it is so scary/upsetting is because the movie is like a connect-the-dots of adult fears. Youāve got the fear of doctors, fear of medical procedures, fear of becoming old, fear of being forgotton and locked away in a crazy house, child abuseā¦this movie has it all. I also never connected that Ellen Burstyn played the mom. Also noticed this viewing how there is practically no musical score throughout the film (when music finally cuts in at the closing credits the effect is really jarring) which is very rare for a horror movie
