The SRK Movie Fanatic Thread (REVIEWS, QUESTIONS, RANTS, STARS...ETC.) EVERYTHING!

I saw the preview for DOA in the theater the other day…doesn’t look that bad actually. Whether it’s true to the game or not, looks like a good action/martial art movie…

Harry Potter 5…hells yeah!

potter’s release has been bumped up 2 days to the 11th

Harry Potter is the truth. LMAO at all those religious groups boycotting the Potter madness, claiming some sort of Satanic worship/encouragement.

And DoA looks like trash, licensed movie or not.

I just think the fight scenes will be good.

Was never interested in the Harry Potter movies…but the preview for this one looks too good

parry hotter is going to be the best of the summer imo. i am a potter fan, big one.

Can’t wait for book 7 either…just is gonna be weird having to wait for the seventh movie =P

the cast will be OLD as hell. I know it’s cool to see them grow up, but there comes a point when you’re like, WTF? That “kid” has a full-on beard…

DoA got leaked online ages back. It’s not that bad…pretty horrible, but better than expected. I actually sat through the whole thing. I just wish they would stop casting Devon Aoki for the Asian roles though… she’s so fucking ugly.

you mean that china dish-faced hoe? the one in sin city and fast and the furious?

ugh, soooo ugly!

i saw letters from iwo jima, thought it was really good, i liked the whole color tone of the movie, i thought that was a nice touch and it will make it timeless, like you can see this movie 20 years from now and you will still be like damn that shit looks hot…man clint eastwood is rediculous…like almost every movie that guy makes is nominated for best picture or something…

im outi

Roberth

saw pirates tis weekend. better than pirates 2, better than spidey 3, but still not living up to the budget and cast.

i really want to watch letters. i’ve wanted to see it since the first previews came out.

Saw “The Fountain”. Didn’t catch everything when I saw it, not interesting enough for me to go back and re-watch it. Anybody care to breakdown the movie, using spoiler tags, for me?

The Host aka Gwoemul

Korean monster movie. Starts slow but kicks up once the monster shows up…in DAYLIGHT! Very entertaining monster movie. Watch it with your friends!

Knocked Up

Funniest movie of the year. Easily. It’s funny and it has heart, Judd Apatow delivers once again. I didn’t think much of Katherine Heigl outside of my masturbatory fantasies before, but she is a really talented actress and her chemistry on screen with Seth Rogen works. Hell, even Ryan Seacrest was fantastic in his! Makes a great date movie.

Was Smokin Aces worth seeing, or was it just about watching Alicia and Common look cool with guns? I think the type of Hollywood movie I hate the most is stuff like Oceans’ Eleven+ – empty ensemble cast films that is somehow validated because the coolest actors or recording artists just show up for a role in a movie that ultimately offers nothing…

ensemble casts so rarely work, look at mars attacks.

I saw The Prestige… I’m using this space to bitch and whine about this movie and Chris Nolan…

There was some terrible acting and line delivery from Jackman and especially Johansen… the Tom and Jerry-like sabotage game between Angier and Borden felt like filler, and got old quicker than it should have… and it’s hard to get engaged in a movie when you figure out the mystery well before the movie ends. The real (and completely unwelcome) twist in the movie was actually shifting the genre from thriller to sci-fi/magic for no reason… finally, the attempt to sell Borden’s twin brother act did not go well. Twins are not identical and that trick would simply not work on their spouse/partner.

Despite my criticisms, it’s the Nolan movie I like the most… it’s the darkest picture he’s directed, and Angier developing into a consumed and morbidly evil character was the most entertaining part of the film. And I guess the biggest problems I have with the movie are the fault of the original work, than anything Nolan came up with.

I hate dissecting Nolan movies like this but, his directing strikes me as amateurish at times. From the weak action scenes in Batman Begins to the twin brother thing in Prestige, it feels like he’s saying “um I know this sticks out like a sore thumb but can you just be a sport and accept it?”

And when he takes a stab at noir and confusing mysteries, I can’t help but think of directors like Lynch or Mamet who handle noir much more naturally. Also, as far as new directors go, I think Bryan Singer (even though he’s mostly in the superhero business right now) and Darren Aronofsky would have been better directors for anything Nolan’s put out thus far.

the superbad restricted trailer.

Knocked Up/Hot Fuzz- Probably gonna be the best comedies of this year, both excellent

Click- Finally got around to watching it, and wow, it wasn’t nearly as bad as you’d expect, it was actually quite good. I’d recommend it.

Bamboozled- Spike Lee, enough said, great movie. A little too metaphoric though.

Didn’t they both wear costumes the same costumes to sell it? They’re supposed to be great magicians, so why couldn’t they sell this “trick” to the wife/my future baby momma scarlett

how can you really consider bryan singer or Darren Aronofsky to be new directors? Pi is almost 10 years old and Singer directed USual Suspects which came out in 1995

and both of those weren’t their first movies

10+ years of being in the industry now qualifies you as a new director?

You have to be very careful when putting Darren Aronofsky on anything, because he tends to take whatever is at hand and completely change it in his own way. Good or bad, he’s one of those directors, and I don’t really see him directing a superhero movie tbh. And no, he’s not new at all, he just doesn’t do that many movies.
