The SRK Movie Fanatic Thread (REVIEWS, QUESTIONS, RANTS, STARS...ETC.) EVERYTHING!

just saw a korean film called sympathy for lady vengence,

BAD ASS

my friend recomended that movie to me.

anglib420 @ yahoo dot com for my netflix accountā€¦add meā€¦

top 3 what? films of 2006? man, of the ones iā€™ve seen it would be like borat, little miss sunshine and thats about itā€¦i still need to see the departed and suchā€¦

Iā€™d go with The Departed as number 1.
Iā€™d also say best editing for Departed and best supporting actor (wahlberg.)

Borat, while it probably wonā€™t see any awards, is DEFINITELY my 2nd.

I didnā€™t see a lot of other movies that I liked this year. I tend to not really watch most mainstream cinema, but I watch a lot of asian cinema.

is murdoch you lib? film school queue right thereā€¦
doesnt your fiance get any picks?

yeah, we actually have a split off, i have a five at a time account, i get 3, she has 2 of them, they donā€™t show up in my accountā€¦i really donā€™t know how she shares her list with anyoneā€¦and its murdock, not that it mattersā€¦

her list pretty much covers the ā€œfluffā€ of our watching. iā€™m not saying its crap, its just stuff you can usually watch with friends while drinking. also, ALOT of romantic comedies - one of the only types of movies i cannot standā€¦

well, i rated some more filmsā€¦up to 914ā€¦still bout 100 short of you there pgā€¦i was kinda surprised by some of your ratingsā€¦overall, it looked about as i expected, but some of the films you gave 4 stars surprised me alotā€¦iā€™m pretty fucking strict when it comes to 4-5 starsā€¦they have to be movies that blow me awayā€¦

Quick opinion on Eragon-
IMO the movieā€™s events seemed to have rushed from the very start of it, and the movie focused a lot on the main character and the final battle.
I really wished they mightā€™ve focused a bit more on the world of the book, plus I donā€™t like how Safeera looks like a lizard with bird wings and HAIR, though I belive all the dragons are supposed to be like that :P.

I havenā€™t read the book yet, but might in the future, but from my first watch Iā€™d give this movieā€¦hmmm 3/5.
Also is it me or did that Shade look like Falcoon after getting a lypo suction or something?

5 at a time? damn, baller  We get 3, my girl getting 1 of them because she is always slow in watching them. Do you friends call you howlinā€™ mad murdock?

Yeah Iā€™m not too strict on netfilx ratings, an 8 point (4 stars with half points) or 10 point (5 stars w/ half points) would be more accurate than just the 5 point scale they have. This means some of my 4 stars may really be 3.5 stars, while others could be 4.5 stars, etc. What ones were surprising though? Like Ebert I dont rate across all genres or even seriesā€™ so a 4 star Friday the 13th doesnt necessarily equal a 4 star Kurosawa. There are a ton of movies from like 1982-1990 that I have seen but donā€™t feel I can really remember the whole films well enough to rate honestly (neverending story and the last unicorn come to mind)

i agree that they need to go to a more accurate rating system. alot of my five stars and four stars would not rate equal in an 8-10 star system. like ā€œthe burbsā€ is one of my favorite movies of all time, but on a 10 star scale, it would be an 8, while clockwork orange would be a nine, tens would be very hard to attainā€¦maybe psycho or casablancaā€¦

we definately get through deeā€™s movies much faster than mine because alot of times, i have to watch mine alone cuz they arenā€™t her cup of teaā€¦

in second grade, i started attending public school after being in christian school for a couple of years and every single kid wanted to play a-team with me just so i could be murdockā€¦

come on now, I come across all 5 of these classics in a row under your 3 stars ratings??? You got at least three 5 star movies here

i didnā€™t like the restored version of exorcist that much and the other ones all appeal to me, but donā€™t break that 3 scale except maybe evil dead, which i need to see more than 1 time before i give it a much more accurate ratingā€¦thats teh thing, alot of the 3 star movies fall under the catagory of needing followup viewingsā€¦and i like the 80ā€™s standards, but they arenā€™t films i would just watchā€¦maybe iā€™ve seen em so much that i donā€™t need to see them again. i dunno, ferris is good, but i donā€™t think it cracks more than 3 and fast times COULD go up by one, i just need to see it a few more times to ensure itā€¦sean penn is epic in itā€¦

yeah you need to watch r-rated fast times againā€¦

and you really dont like romantic comedies

omg, i hate them and dee loves emā€¦now, there are movies that break that mold like something about mary, but most of em make me sick. i donā€™t even have a thing against love in a movie, but it has to be just rightā€¦like eternal sunshine blows me out of the waterā€¦its one of the best ā€œloveā€ movies iā€™ve ever seenā€¦same with casablancaā€¦

aw come on, but doesnt ryan reynolds just melt your heart in Just Friends?

ok, you caught meā€¦i <3 that ryan reynolds. heā€™s actually pretty funny, but heā€™s the same in everything, he has like one character. i did like waiting, but i like that kind of comedyā€¦its one of my weaknessesā€¦i mean, look at my queue and know that i also love movies like zoolanderā€¦

he didnt play the same in amittyville (sp) horrorā€¦he was actually pretty decent in that movie, even though the movie suckedā€¦

im outi

Roberth

Iā€™m thinking about picking up Francis Ford Coppolaā€™s The Outsiders after work. What do you guys think?

the uncut version adds a lot, all the extras are good except for the no-show of two or so cast members

If it comes to romantic comedies to like, just go with some older stuff like The Palm Beach Story, The Philadelphia Story, or Billy Wilder movies. Theyā€™re not the namsy-pamsy Nancy Meyers dreck and are actually funny. But then again, Iā€™m a fan of golden age screwball comedies.

so i saw talledega nights this weekend. now, as mentioned before, iā€™m a sucker for low brow humor, so i did find the movie funny. it does, however, have what i have labelled as the ā€œzoolander effectā€. this is where something is mildly humorous on first viewing but becomes increasingly funny with each subsequent viewings. this can be a large deterent for people who normally donā€™t watch comedies, as they donā€™t want to have to watch a movie several times to find out if they really thinks itā€™s funny.
