there’s no such thing as a good remake. the last house remake looks like the “happy ending” version of the movie. it seems they are focussing more on the parents revenge than the killing of the girls. last house(72) almost made me vomit…this movie is nothing compared to that…mainstream american horror these days is shit.
I’m giving it a chance. I get where you’re coming from (I only finished the original Last House because it was a bet/dare …:wasted:), but it HAS to be better than the House on Haunted Hill remake.
Franklyn and to a lesser degree killshot look alright but that house remake lol it looks pretty bad at best it’s going to be 1 step above all the other shit in it’s genre these days which is like saying you’re smarter then forrest gump.
The problem with “horror” films is that what the genre demands to be successful is in direct conflict with the conventions and ideas of what film makers today push for and embrace.
And it’s a genre that is particularly susceptible to fanboyism and all the demands involved with that. It’s the very conventions and ideas you’re talking about that the fans fetishize, and it’s “safe” to make a film that caters to that audience rather than take a chance on something better. You know you’ll have a certain number of butts in the seat every time, and horror filmmakers are extra fortunate that the cliches of the genre don’t demand a very big budget. Fake blood and entrails come cheap.
all i know is that american horror has been in a coma for ages - i doubt we’ll ever see a return to the type of american horror (and cinema in general) that the 70’s brought…
Saw “Taken”. I didn’t know Liam Neeson had it in him. Very nice action flick; concise, to the point, doesn’t waste too much time on fluff, but it nails the emotional aspect well. Totally thought his phone conversation w/ the kidnapper was a nice touch. “A very special set of skills…” Damn.
isn’t that written luc besson? his films seem to have very similar themes…
it is and is also directed by the guy who made District B13.
One thing I’ll say about modern “horror” film like the saw series for example is they have creative deaths which is 1 ingredient for a good slasher.
i never really found any of the saw deaths interesting…interesting is like giving a dude a handjob in awarm bath then slicing off his junk and letting him bleed to death in a locked bathroom…
is gorath ever going to finish his top 10 list…
killshot looks dope…

i believe pg has been in colorado for sundance, i’m sure he’ll finish it when he gets back…
Saw Wendy and Lucy the other night. Pretty slow paced, but I liked it. It was like Marley and Me but not as cheesy. Nor did I walk out on it halfway through only to come back half hour befor it ended and hear people crying FOR THE WHOLE HALF HOUR before the fucking movie ended. SIgh.
That sounds like In the Realm of the Senses type shit only the dude was already dead in that.
i spit on your grave actually…
has anyone seen the che movies(argentine and guerilla)? i noticed they were both on in-demand right now, wondering if they are worth renting.
saw slum dog, it was pretty good…martyrs needs to come out somewhere sometime wtf…

Argentine was good I guess. Narrative was familiar Soderbergh style, but I like that it has a timeless look, where you can’t really guess when the film was made… kind of like the Godfather series.
It’s kind of slow but slow films don’t bother me. If you’re familiar with Cuba’s history there’s not much else going for the movie, and it’s not really a candid or comprehensive account of Che and Cuba’s takeover. I still have to see Guerilla…
so i watched revolutionary road…i personally thought the movie was really good…i dont know what is with all the hate…and michael shannon probably could have won best supporting actor if he was in the movie longer then like 3 min total…im glad that he got nominated though…
