I’m starting to think the statement “I don’t like politics in my TV/sports” is just code speak for “I don’t care about the problems minorities face cuz they do not affect me, and I’m also probably a bit racist.”

Funny, I hear that line the most out of Po Pimpus.
I always considered it a copout for people who can’t handle some legit commentary in their entertainment. MGS2 still goes over most people’s heads and the subjects it talks about are more relevant today then they where 20 years ago.

In fairness, there’s a difference between the galaxy brain Tom Clancy fanfic Kojima crafts (nearing a coherent Alex Jones at times); and some of the more base political theme and pandering inserted into pop culture. You need someone with a vision and a story they need to tell, and not a committee checking off boxes that focus test groups respond well to.
An example of it being done well, bordering on that Kojima level:
Although in hindsight, that really may have just been a biopic of Army Hammer.
