The SRK Blazblue General Discussion Thread

I agree that the delayed release of a console port is incredibly bad for business stateside, as with the board/cab pricing as competitive as it is and Taito X2’s cabinets being as expensive as they are, games will be too expensive to play seriously until a console port comes out anyways, and by that time the hype may just be dead. That or they might just do what Super Arcade did and purchase the board only, leaving the rest of the money to go to inevitable repairs of shoddy arcade parts. Hopefully they’ll get talked down to only taking half a year or so.
1+ years for a console port of an arcade game in this day and age is financial suicide, even in Japan where the arcade scene’s head is still above water.

On an unrelated note, returning your PS3 because one game you want isn’t coming out immediately, when the system has tons to offer, is pretty ridiculous.

yes, you have dmc4, mg4, burn out paradise, the oncoming sillent hill 5, ff xIII, ff Xiii versus, and many other games

The reason behind it has nothing to do with the US. We’re a minority when it comes to fighting games compared to over in japan where their arcades still actually function and make profit. If you were to say it would not matter for them to release it stateside then that would be more true as no arcade would really lose money for that here, but you’d still get people importing the game just to save themselves money in the long run anyways unless they can lock out japanese ps3 players from playing US ps3 games.

It’s sad that we won’t be getting the game as I wanted that to be part of the excitement of deciding whether or not to pick up a nextgen console, but their decision is warranted and there just isn’t enough people to complain about this to make a difference.

Or they could release it for 360 region locked for Japan, and since the Japaneses dont care for 360 it wouldn’t really hurt a thing.

So basically they should strive for a console release on 360 in the USA as soon as possible after a arcade release in Japan, and then a updated version later on for both consoles in japan and America. Problem solved

A arcade port to 360 shouldn’t be too hard since its all windows based.( I believe)

Believe it or not folks, we feel you on this. But since we’ve committed in bringing the US arcade version to America, we can’t turn our face the other way to arcade operators after the sales of the arcade board. Granted the Taito board and the cabinet can be expensive to some folks, but if you compare the pricing we have here than to say any competitor, they’ll find it the pricing to be very very cheap. BELIEVE ME! I’m also considering buying one just to have it in my home!

However let it be said, we are trying to cater to the fighting game community. Though we have no talks of a console release yet, believe me when I say its not something we’re not planning either.

And for the folks that totally think by the time the console version gets released, it would be obsolete. Let me kill that noise by saying, …interchangeable character select by character DLC and updated patches to work networkly with the Taito Type-X2 board. That’s all I gotta say…we’re also looking into some little netcode (everyone here should know what I’m talking about when I mention “netcode”) that would make the network issue non-existent. So please don’t think just because we’re waiting a little longer for the console release, doesn’t mean we’re not planning to make it bigger and better for the folks that make these games precious.

Also on another note, BB is NOT coming out this Dec, Jan, or next year Feb. And I’m talking about US and Overseas. I don’t know where that info is coming from, even if its from Famitsu…that noise is so wrong. So let me kill that noise real quick.

I do feel some of you may not have an arcade near you, however, here’s where you guys step up and help the scene. If you have a arcade near you and you know they may not know about BlazeBlue, please let me know by sending me a PM, emailing me, send a bird out with a note, whatever it takes and I’ll personally call that arcade and I’ll work it out with them on getting a blazblue board or cabinet. This is our chance folks, to try to broaden this release beyond just the usual arcades. Granted, I can’t promise all arcades will take them, but if we don’t try, we’ll never know, right? So please, if you got info, pass it, and I’ll make that shit happen in someway FOR EVERYONE.

For umgogo…
Also on a final side note, Tekken 5 arcade sales did die the MINUTE the console release was announced. In fact, the sales died so fast that arcade operators to this date are still burnt by it hence why Tekken 6 is no where in sight in America but a very select few places that decided to pay the ridiculous import cost. And this is also the very freaking reason why we’re not playing Street Fighter 4 here in the states, a high caliber game, that actually had a chance to revitalize some arcade business. Think about it folks…

I’ll def send a PM with all the local arcades that dont know of the game. What about movie theaters and things of that sort? Or is that out of reach?

if you know anyone arcade operators that do routes, you know those folks that put a few cabinets at taco shops, laundry mats, or movie theaters. Find their contact information for me and I’ll make that call for you. Usually you can find those contact info on the cabinet itself. Just look for some sticker or label on there that says who owns or takes care of the cabinets.

But if you guys send PM or email me, support@aksysgames.com, with the arcade’s contact info and who I need to talk to, I’ll make that shit happen in some way for you guys.

If im in Latin America, its still posible to call you and get a Blazblue machine here?

Yes its still possible. PM me or email me and I’ll set you up. here’s my office line

Also folks, we’re not requiring anyone to buy board and cabinet together. Its optional and Unlike SF4, you DO NOT NEED two taito boards to play a 2 player game. You just need one!

I assume you are referring to the US market here? If T5 sold poorly because of an impending home release, then I guess that means that the playerbase was/is more interested in console gaming than arcade gaming. Had the players been that eager to keep the local arcade operators in business for T6, SF4 et. al., they would have kept feeding the arcade cabinets regardless of the console version… no? Will “forcing” players to the arcades by holding out on the console release “revitalize the arcade business”? Colour me doubtful.

(In Sweden - indeed, in most of Europe - there ARE NO ARCADES. AT ALL. Just wanted to clear that up.)

Even if so, what about a Japanese PS3 release? You cannot tell me that the Japanese routinely turn their backs on their (numerous and well-kept) arcade parlours the minute the console versions are announced. The (hardcore) Westerners who would actually import the game would almost certainly be fewer than those who bought T5, and, for the most part, quite willing to support any arcade within a reasonable radius (just look at this site!).

Hey, a new video noone posted yet??

Also, dl the highres version, it’s great. Thanks to GameMANX for recording and donating the bandwidth for that.

Oh, and from ReXXXSoprano:
edit: damn, those are the gamevideos videos…

Awesome quality, many thanks, should you visit here :woot:

In actuality, the arcades manage to keep the players going in up until the console release actually occured, but what I mean by sales is the actual sales of the arcade board in the US. Most arcade operators here in the states and in Japan wants at least 6 to 8 months to recoup the cost of the board and make some profits prior to console release. I mean come on, lets face it, regardless on how much how popular a game is, when a console release occurs everyone buys the console version. That’s a given, but its the sales of the arcade board that we’re talking about that diminishes. Granted, not all areas have arcades and that’s just something everyone in the world has to live with. but the cities that do and are willing to support the game, we can’t slap the operators across the face and offer the same type of support back.

And a PS3 release is far off believe me on that and japanese arcades don’t have the same profit lost as here but it still hurts the business as a whole. And that’s just something we’re trying to minimize on this title. And you also have to think that the Japanese market is totally different than ours. But from a business model stand point, you have to take in the whole picture, not just one market…

I hope that means you guys are trying to get GGPO-like quality for netcode. That would be epic and awesome. Just don’t make the mistake backbone is making and not include Ponder. :frowning:

Lets just say we love ponder

I had a request from a subscriber to upload those since their computer only agrees with YouTube. They subscribe and I try my best to help. I’m a sucker for the plight of others. I need to snap outta of that behavior.

But the game looks totally sick. Shame we have to wait a whole year to even get to the point of a possible console release. I need to move somewhere else.

So Aksys, how much are we talking per kit?
I’m guessing as it’ll come straight from the supplier, it’ll be at least slightly less than the average retail of ~$3600.

Shoot me a PM to let me know, I’m curious and if I don’t end up getting one myself I can talk it over with some local arcades.

Oh no you don’t! That’s a very nice thing to do, you probably made a couple of people very happy while it didn’t ruin your life, you should never regret that.

Thats me playing Taokaka in that vid :bgrin:

Thanks for posting it

What about a Europe release of the arcade machines? If considered at all (and I wouldn’t blame you for not even bothering) then since Europe tends to get things even later than america, will it be safe to assume that BlazBlue will probably make it to Europe in console-only form about the same time that American consoles get the game?

I’d like to think that after plenty of bug testing in arcades, there wouldn’t be too much balancing and tweaking for the European console version of this game.

And the thought of patches makes me very happy. Nothing kills a competitive game more than the developers refusing to fix any really irritating mistakes after release (I’m looking at YOU Smash Bros Brawl…)

Man Taokaka still looks great.

After reading Koogy’s write up of her on dustloop forums, I can see that one of her weaknesses seems to be a lack of normal knockdown options and a poor overhead game…hmm…

Also, Arakune looks like he’s very hard to win with…I haven’t seen any videos where he dominates. What do you have to do in order to curse the opponent?

He looks like he has a lot of potential, but his attacks seem slow and lacking in range. He seems to have a LOT of evasive options though…and the ability to go invisible? Wow…mind games!

Taokaka has overheads, and trust me, with Genei-Jin, her 6M (her cartwheel overhead) will become too good. It’s hard to see coming, and she can cancel into air specials / drives from it.

Taokaka’s taunt also hits for 2 hits, causing like … .1 pixel of damage. XD It’s the same thing as her winpose currently. she makes a little :3 mouse when she does it, also.

Arakune is just the most irritating guy ever. He’s going to be top tier for sure, because his runaway is so strong. x.x
