The SRK Blazblue General Discussion Thread

Thank you. Personally I want this to be as unrelated to Guilty Gear as possible.

The fighting genre is in dire need of high profile new IP’s (IMO).

Oh well I just saw it on the title ofN4G.

You like Tekken?

Because they have pixel artists under contract and don’t want them to go to waste as well as being a highly dedicated developer with very high production values, and also has the official name of being “THAT 2D Fighting Developer”. Regardless with current technology pixel art is no longer needed for sprite based 2D games (For example Aquaria doesn’t use pixel art yet looks better then most 2D fighters and the near half 1000 HD sprites were done by 2 people in very very little time). I mean hell you see doujin 2D fighting games made at a regular basis at times.

The only reason why Street Fighter 4 doesn’t use sprites is because Capcom is attempting to capture the mainstream market. It is possible for a 2D sprite based game to perform well on console especially if it has history established as Nintendo has shown if marketed well, but resurrecting a previously dead franchise is risky let alone on a genre that isn’t hot in the mainstream.

Of course that isn’t to say Street Fighter IV can’t appeal to the hardcore, just explaining why Capcom probably used 3D Models instead of Sprites for the game.

Compare this to Arc System Works. It’s as I’ve said they’ve established themselves as “The 2D Fighting Developer” (as I’ve said before). By using sprites this game will sell even more by not only being another work of art by the developer but being seen as the successor to the already popular Guilty Gear franchise. I mean I admit I wasn’t heavily into fighters at this time so please don’t blame me, but I heard that Battle Fantasia made a very small splash and I think visuals probably contributed to that.

So why is Street Fighter IV not sprite based? Because it’s more financially viable to not have it sprite based.

Why is this sprite based? Because it’s more financially viable to have it sprite based.

Well, at least you’re ballin’.

I’m sorry please don’t hate me. :frowning:

It’ll probably be ported to PS3 and maybe 360.

This game is running on TypeX^2, there is no way the PS2 can handle it, unless stripped down or the game not being demanding at all, the latter I doubt.

Just because it’s on the TX2, doesn’t mean anything in that regard of which console it will go to, at least, not immediately.

KOF: MI Regulation A, and Samurai Spirits SEN are BOTH Taito X2 games, which means that they’re both technically “HD”, as that’s the signal that the TX2 is set to display. But it doesn’t mean much, because the games are STILL basically in the same club of “high end PS2” games, at best. Hell, MIA got ported to the PS2 seemingly a month or two after its debut on the TX2, and I’m willing to bet that SEN will follow suit.

So, in short, there’s nothing that discredits this game from being a PS2 release, yet. The thing that seems to be most “HD” about the game is its BGs. And frankly, I’d be surprised if ASW went all the way for a PS3 release, considering that they’re still probably reeling badly from the commercial flops that were Battle Fantasia and GG2.

Putting it on the PS3, which would do more to split up the fans that ASW stands to appeal to (GG fans who more than likely own a PS2 and/or Wii) would be another instance of commercial suicide, in my opinion. And I REALLY don’t think ASW can afford another one of those…

hahahahahh no, KOF MIRA runs on Taito TypeX+, and NOT X^2, I also know from the fact that I have the game at various fucking local arcades and it clearly states this. As well as every coin-op distributor and even on SNKP’s site.

Don’t even get me started with this suicide bullshit.

Have you even seen the specs for X^2? It’s comparable to a 360 or high end PC, Type X+ is of the PS2-Xbox-GC generation.

Go back and live in the stone age junior.

Shame it’s unlikely the RAM capacity for either the PS3 or 360 can handle 1080p sprites - even with STHD they’ve mentioned they might be doing 720p sprites on 1080p backgrounds, and presumably any new game will be using more frames of animation than that. Guess we’ll be waiting until next gen for a truly HD 2D fighter on consoles.

You may want to recheck your facts. KOF MIRA does run off the Type X2.

SNK Playmore just didn’t take full advantage of the board outside of the HD resolutions.

*This new approach to the vetran series comes thanks to the Taito Type-X2 hardware system. Difference made of the arcade port includes adding 3 more characters as well as Armor Ralf in favour of Ash Crimson. The storyline has also been rework for this version. *

I pretty much agree. If I was ASW I’d try porting the game to as many platforms as possible (similar to what most devs. are doing today).

I don’t know what GG2 is (I assume GG=Guilty Gear 2: Overture), and I’m not too familiar with Battle Fantasia though I have seen videos of it (should be the poster child of why you should not use 3D models for a 2D game), but if they were both commercial faliures that definately doesn’t fly too well with a new established publisher.

I personally hope that this game gets released on the Wii and/or the PC because I don’t feel like shelling out money to buy a PS3 solely for this game. I also hope this does well so we could get another high production valued new fighting IP.

…I was about to post otherwise…but it looks like RyanDG beat me to the pwning punch and supports what I’m talking about.

Truly, it’s YOU who is the one who needs to check his facts before he goes on to make an ass out himself, wouldn’t you agree? :wgrin:

I personally hope that Arc System Works remembers to keep the animation in this game more fluid then Guilty Gear.

Yes it is depressing, especially with Microsoft’s (I assume SONY also) having a standard that a game has to be in HD in order to be on the console (though some developers like Bungie and Infinity Ward cut corners). In terms of HDRemix, each character has over 700 frames while Third Strike uses an average of 1200 frames per character. So I think you would be correct that true HD would be just out of developers reach.

A fair share amount of users on this site have a habit of that.

Disgaea 3 is an already established franchise as well as having a very small budget due to it’s PSX like sprite detail, not taking into account of the amount of frames in the game.

Fighting games in general aren’t really that viable anymore to the mass market.

what is this BS button layout?
it should be like SBX and jojo and melty:

A B C
E

Don’t worry, if BB sux, people will go back GGAC:looney:

If BB rocks, you should be able to forget about GGAC within 3 secs:wgrin:

Frankly, I think that both, along with SBX, can all peacefully exist.

As I believe some one implied either here or over at Dustloop, there’s nothing that says that GG:AC can’t basically become the “Super Turbo/KOF98” that people will be playing years from now, while BB and SBX could become the designated “new shit” that more and more people will be playing currently, and can look forward to new upgrades/sequels of those games as they come in.

I’m sure ASW would like nothing more than be able to have that much. After all, compared to the plethora of stuff that exists in Capcom and SNK’s libraries, they still are quite small. And the more material they stand to have, the better.

Even though the screens aren’t the best quality I do feel that these screens look better then Barsara X. This probably could be the most beautiful 2D fighter in all creation. But again the animation quality better not be choppy.

Completely agreed. I just hope that this doesn’t overshadow Basara X though. :shake:

I couldn’t agree more. I’d like nothing more if SBX would basically become its own series, and could compliment the mainstream games that Capcom would put out. After all, SBX only stands to have TEN characters, while the main games have long since pushed into the 30s and beyond. Next game NEEDS to have Miyamoto Musashi and Xavii, at least. And if the HnK/Basara team is indeed a separate entity from the GG team, there would be no excuse, in my eyes. They need to kept busy!

But in any case, I’m not too concerned about BASARA, at the moment. It stands to come out in April (last I heard), while this new game probably won’t have its official release until any where between Summer to December 08. That should be more than enough time for SBX to enjoy its time in the sun, and then ASW can get to work to hyping up their new baby’s official arcade debut, by the time SBX is prepping for its console release late this year.

…Or at least…that’s the kind of marketing mindgames that ASW has in mind. Again, after having to eat some pretty big commercial flops over the last year and some change, I’m sure they have to do more to make sure that they can keep doing what they like to do, while still keeping their stockholders happy…

^^^^Yes I’m not sure why people don’t like new games. Yes Third Strike, CvS2, and MvC2 are good and all, but honestly I want to play some new games. Almost all of the “premire” 2D fighters are nearly a decade old. Why is it so bad if another game doesn’t take the reigns? I am aware there is Melty Blood, Battle Colosseum, and Arcana Hearts, but out of the two out of the three I’ve played (the third being AH) neither to me have the production values to surpass or equal the current premire fighters. Also I’m not a graphics whore by any means but I’m sorry these games look like they were made 10 to 12 fucking years ago. I fuck Warzard looks better then all these games.

In terms with Arc System Works I’d really like to see them shine and further establish themselves as a quality fighting developer. I’d much rather buy games knowing that they can improve and that my purchase goes towards to the developer being able to improve the game or make something bigger. But that’s just me.

i hope this game isn’t a dial-a-combo fest like a certain other series by some developer, because it actually looks kind of neat
