Come baaaaaaasck lol
Hey everyone! This vid focuses on punishing neutral jumps during Juriās fireball. Itās mainly about utilizing her typical anti-air moves, dependent on spacing.
Slowly making progress. Finally hit super platinum. It is hard to be consistent with this character, but the last two days Iāve been finding myself winning match ups I previously was struggling against.
I think taking some time off from her and learning some Nash and Akuma helped a lot to see her with fresh eyes.
One thing that Iāve found invaluable lately, is how good her vskill is in the Mika match for dealing that that fucking drop kick.
I think this match up is pretty rough vs good giefs. Bad Geifs though, there are a few tricks for them. If they like to AA with any armor moves, you can jump in with her air target combo. It will break his armor and knock him down.
Whiff punish his longer normals with HP buffer into flip kick. You can also use cr mp, but I find that normal loses to a lot in this match up. Charge your V skill always. Gief is also slow, so you always have time to run and charge up your moves in general.
Use your fireball to bait out punishable moves like lariat. He lariats and you can release your Vskill to punish from afar, or you can sweep or whatever other available punish if you dash in and block.
Remember you can also use your charged vskill to dash under him and escape if you back yourself to far into the corner and he jumps. A key part of this match up is runaway and frustration. Gief players will often lose patience chasing you around for a while, so dart in and pressure when you see him getting flustered, or just punish him whenever you can if he starts making anxious reads to catch you.
Gief is a solid matchup. If you lose the match itās because you fucked up as if you have all your stores and charges, there isnāt much way for him to hit you that isnāt about him getting lucky. He canāt really jump in other than with really far jumps as anything close is easy to s.HP or MP Tensenrin AA. s.MK is good at keeping him honest in neutral and you can cancel the first hit into stores to punish abuse of jabs or medium buttons
I kind of disagree on this one. I feel like he can just walk you down, and pressure with his jab. you canāt jump over a good gief, and mk range is basically still in lp command grab range, so footsies with him is pretty risky. He never really needs to jump to win this match up. A good gief just needs patience to walk her down to the corner and then she has some real trouble vs him.
Well yeah, thatās what Gief is supposed to do is walk you down, but it always helps if you play a character that can shut down abuse of things that make the matchup difficult like s.HP and lariat swinging. If you force the Gief to walk and jab then that gives you plenty of time to get your stores up and play the zone game against him via fireballs and s.MK. He eventually has to jump or lariat to deal with fireballs and charged V Skill or anti air can punish those.
Itās a matchup of patience but a Juri that locks down on her options is just as annoying for Gief as all he can really do is walk and jab and that takes away a lot of his normal threat. Plus gives you room to keep stores charged.
Overall I feel itās an even matchup where the person who plays better wins.
I feel like thatās again the point I am trying to make. He never has to do anything to deal with her zoning. Just walk in and block. Let her charge all day. walk her straight to the corner without care for taking a hit or two on accident, otherwise just corner her. Eventually she is the one who has to take risk to get out because her normals donāt square up well against Gief in the corner.
Juri can definitely win this match, it isnāt crazy bad, but Gief players play it completely wrong most of the time. She throws a fireball, just block it. she chargers her stores, who cares, walk forward. keep on walking until she needs to take initiative and move in at you, then she is in trouble.
Really good giefs can then also take their risks and reads where they feel like. But just the basic point of not giving a shit about her offense until you get to the corner is the key to gief in this match. She dashes in at you without a fireball, just jab. she jumps at you, just jab. keep her moving backwards. Her options become heavily limited from there.
