Fang and Alex have been in much worse situation for a while. Still really to this day.

Eh, Juri was worse than Alex for all of season 1 and arguably Fang (hard to argue against her being worst character in S1).

Beginning of S2 she was slightly better than Alex and Fang but probably around Ryu level or a spot or 2 above that. Bottom 1/3rd to 1/4th of the cast for sure.

That doesn’t scream good to anyone who actually has been playing the game, she has fundamental flaws to her game that no human can consistently make up for at the highest level. Twelve wins some times at a high level in 3S … that doesn’t mean he is good. Sure you might beat someone you are much better than, but there are characters that do her game plan much better than her so there is literally no point in picking her over a character like Cammy or Karin at all. Lol, buffing Cammy but not buffing Juri and you think that makes sense.

I think she was better than Alex or Fang in Season 1 even, but that’s just my personal opinion. Her V Trigger fireballs traveled full screen which still created a stronger V Trigger than either of them had. Fang to this day still basically doesn’t have a V Trigger. You can really just call it a glorified VTC.

She’s definitely more capable and fundamentally sound than Twelve was in 3S. She has way too many solid things that Twelve didn’t have so there isn’t much comparison there. Twelve at most is comparable to Fang and Fang is still for the most part completely better than Twelve.

I mean you could go on with the you don’t have to play this because that character. You don’t have to play Ken when Laura and Rog do similar things but better. You don’t have to play Bison because Necalli and Urien…that can go on. The main thing is whether Juri is still capable even if someone is higher tiered than her and I would say so. Has a 3 frame low, 3 frame s.LP, a fireball that stops the opponent from playing normal footsie games once it’s out, one of the better V Skills that when charged stops movement from a lot of characters, a V trigger that can be cancelled off a fireball whiff and now has a frame 3 HP DP to stop certain frame traps and call outs in neutral that a lot of other characters don’t have.

The character has a lot of potential and with optimization should be up there with Bison at the minimum.

You realize a couple spots above Ryu is where Bison is right? We aren’t disagreeing, but by saying that you admit the character is shit and fundamentally flawed. Bison needs some movespeed and a small cr. FP buff to be decent, Juri needs some pushback weirdness and a frame data tweak or 2. They both are almost ok … but shoulda, coulda, woulda and all that jazz. Different versions of not quite good enough so who is better really just comes down to the number of characters that can exploit those flaws.

Juri has less appealing options than a character like Bison does. At least he has cool visual appeal. Juri has bad versions of moves that require you to store them ahead of time, lol. If you got to throw out exceptional moves after storing I’d get the appeal, but lets not pretend that is what happens. Juri misses the marks on all fronts in SFV, imo. I play her just because I really like her SFIV design and am a poor character loyalist, but she is side bae in this game for obvious reasons.

Anyone who says Juri is a good character I can’t take them seriously. When I played Cammy I was Super Platinum, now I main Juri I’m in Super Gold. She has like 1 good match up, 2 or 3 even and 21 bad (or at least unfavourable) matchups. Absolute dog shit tier but damn it I love the character too damn much to switch main…

You can definitely win with Juri, but it’s gotten to the point where it’s like…why even bother? Work 10 times harder than other characters just to do what they do but worse or just play those characters? That’s what it feels like.

Her Fuha mechanic in this game doesn’t really open up any unique situations nor are the moves themselves much to sing about (MK and HK really). She has one of the worst 3 bar V-Triggers in the game, her EX Pinwheel is laughable, st.MP on counterhit is nightmare fuel, cr.MP start up being increased to 6F took away some great pressure against 3F normals (st.LP > st.MP > cr.MP) and cr.HP is a tragedy.

The real fucked up part is knowing all of this and still playing her because I can still win. I’m a part of the problem.

Yeah, Kail was a big part of that in SFIV. MarLonLonMilk does a good job in the video thread. The SFIV Juri forums played together too back then.

The lack of tech is a SFV problem in general.

I enjoyed SSFIV Juri because she was a new character to the series. I could spend time playing around with the character and figuring stuff out without noticing her shortcomings. Then Marvel came out so I didn’t touch AE or AE2012 much. I finally try to go all in with USFIV only to notice that she’s really good and nobody is using her at a tournament level.

Her SFIV life was weird.
