I just realised cancelling into lk release after a blocked hk or mk release isn’t a true blockstring. I was convinced it was. Been using that so much it’s second nature now so will have to work on erasing it from certain matchups. I’m some mutard.
Yeah you have to go to hk lk. Eats up all your stores but it’ll keep you safe if they choose to mash out dp super or something. Some people will. It’s either you’re negative so you’ll get hit or you’ll do something safe and they can stop mashing. People would do the same thing with evil Ryu. Either he cancels hp to fireball and it’s true or you interrupt all his other options.
Wait, so cancelling from HK release to LK release is safe? That might explain a lot of what was going in in that matchup, I was very heavy on mk stores instead if hk. Was trying to get better at confirming HP into mk release on reaction and some counter hit stuff. Usually I’m going for cr.mk into HK release then saving my ass with LK if it’s blocked.
There was a time where people thought Chun was mid tier and she wasn’t winning a whole lot either. She actually doesn’t even win a lot of the premier events even now. More so just the ranking and non CPT events.
Plus you have to figure a lot of the launch cast has been playable since 7 months before the game launched. Juri is a completely new character with only 2 months of real grinding (unless you count the 1 or 2 months before where she was cracked on PC) compared to people who have been playing these characters for half a year in tournaments and a whole year in beta form.
Chun not winning every tournament is dependent on the players using her, if infiltration used chun you know that she would be winning every tournament he enters, and there are still chuns in almost every top 8, you don’t have to win every single tournament to prove they are top tier.
I’ve been in the lab with juri almost every day since she was released in story mode (yeah I used the mod to use her in training mode don’t tell anyone) and her moveset is not really the issue it’s her weak frame data that keeps her from reaching her potential, if she had good frame data to match this moveset then she could be a very strong character. At the moment no matter how much time you get to train with the character it’s not going to fix her major flaws.
Just saying there was a time and I think Nash fits infils play style more than Chun would. He could have made any character look top tier early before the game launched any ways. He just downloaded how to play the game faster than a lot of other people. Even at that Playstation tournament before the game launched everyone else looked so wet behind the ears compared to him.
Juri isn’t top tier, but she’s very playable and will probably look pretty different 6 months from now than she does now. She has a lot to explore while still having solid butons and tools. Her frame data doesn’t leave a lot of situations to be plus, but that doesn’t automatically make a character bad. Bison is plus on most of his buttons and still arguably bottom tier.
You know wich was the character Infiltration was looking forward the most? Among all the character he has play he wanted Juri and even Juri is kind of hit and run as she is similar to Nash playstyle still Infiltrations looks to have abandom the idea of playing her competitivily he even pick Balrog instead at ESL’s Brooklyn Beatdown.
Its sucks but the truth is that she is really bad compared to the rest of the cast.
I don’t really see her as bad compared to the rest of the cast yet. She seems perfectly playable to me, but she is definitely below the top tier. When I see people putting her at the bottom I really am at a loss as to why.
I do think that she is basically a worse Nash though. I have the most success in games trying to play her with a similar hit and run style that Nash excels at. But even then, it doesn’t feel like she is bad, she seems like a less than optimal choice for people who like that play style.
Although, personally, I like playing her much more than playing Nash, as I prefer faster walk speed in my characters.
More so during the beta a number of top players (including Ricki Ortiz anf LPN) struggled to put her past mid tier even though she had 3S worthy kara throw, more links (especially on counter hit) and an even better instant legs.
Even after launch there was still quite a few people in the forums going “ahhh shes too fair her throw range and her buttons to pressure people with are so short”. I was just like “alright kids it’ll get better”
People are really just complaining that she isn’t top tier. Shes definitely mid tier at worst and very much worth playing. Juri takes time to really understand as a character so not surprised Infil didn’t wanna chance flubbing up her stuff in tourney. The only Juris you’re going to see doing work are the ones that solely main her. You cant just mosy along and play her on the side.
Even LI Joe was acting like they chopped off Uriens balls when he launched. When in reality hes already looking really strong.
@brainpipe thats also why I like Juri (and Ibuki and Chun). I like the precise movement you can have with fast walk speed. Nash feels so committal when you use him.
Yeah, unlike a lot of other games I’ve played, mid-tier characters are pretty viable in this game. Not being S tier doesn’t mean you can’t outplay your opponent in this game.
I remember people calling chun bad during the beta too but pretty much as soon as the game released people knew she was top tier, only took a couple weeks. I don’t think 2 months is such a short amount of time that you can’t figure out if a character is good or not.
Love the new juri costume, day 1 buy for me. Her premium costume looks horrible so I’m glad she’s getting a new costume.
The thing is Jin, way too many characters changed and got nerfed from the Beta days to now. Chun didn’t really change that much and it is probably why she remained strong.
Would Chun have been powerful if Birdie could still do cr.LP x2, st.LP headbutt ? That alone would have made the Birdie matchup hell.
Would Chun have been amazing if Ken had the better run he had on the previous builds ? Would she have been good if Ryu’s parry built 1/3 of a bar like it used to ?
She wouldn’t have been amazing if Vega’s roll was still plus on block or at-least safe. She wouldn’t have been this awesome if Zangief could still combo EX SPD. What about
R.Mika’s f.MK reaching almost triple the range it had now and her being able to link a st.MP after a dropkick ?
The way i see it is that Chun was indeed mediocre or mid tier and she got by because the others got nerfed hard. I just listed 6 characters on the top of my head that had tools that would have helped them against Chun and all of them were nerfed.
The kara nerf was universal so you can’t really pin it on Chun, but she didn’t have insanely good tools removed from her like the others.
Yeah she still would have been really good. Chun still would have a button for every situation. Birdie would have been higher tier with jab comfirms, but shed still be able to fight him especially since jab abuse still leaves you open to getting crush countered or priority traded. People don’t parry with Ryu much as it is any way. Can’t remember the last time I fought a decent Ryu that parried or even watched another Ryu on stream parry. Tokido is the only one actively using it in his gameplan and he still can go entire matches without using it.
Chun would definitely do very well vs all of that and not having those things doesn’t make them way worse than her either. She has too many counter pokes to go along with her already great pokes to struggle that hard. Unless they take her buttons and IALL away she would have what she needs to fight those characters.
