until you can can make a system without moving parts (disc drives, hard drives, fans), you will never have a fail proof system. you can wait as long as you want, but until you get back to cartridges, you will always have a failure rate.
hdmi’s are a constant worry in consumer electronics. its great tech, but its a single plug with tons of pins that aren’t supported well. in many electronics, the hdmi port is the most fragile thing that unit will have. its unfortunate, but most people that deal with consumer grade elctronics don’t really “like” having the average ham handed person dealing with hdmi, despite its simplicity.
and the tech behind hdmi’s are still oblivious to the average user. which version hdmi cord do i need, how long of an hdmi cord can i use, what is an hdmi cable… people either think they are all one in the same, or the think that the more expensive hdmi’s are the best. i just think back to all the times where i’ve seen vga pins pushed back and misaligned, being jammed in wrong ports or dented from being inserted the wrong way. hdmi ports are far more delicate and specialized than those, and people just arne’t careful enough or knowledgeable enough about them.
I understand that it varies from system to system, but I’m NOT gonna be that 1% who has to get his system replaced. If waiting increases my odds of that not happening, I’ll gladly wait.
All this technical mumbo jumbo sounds pretty, but it won’t convince me to buy a PS4, I don’t expect to have one til Spring at the earliest
warframe is kinda fun. i like it a lot.
resogun isn’t as pretty as i thought it was going to be? maybe its because i have trouble seeing the whole screen. i.e. why i suck as shmups.
flower didn’t get prettier, but it still looks good.
killzone is pretty. some level design elements are a bit wonky.
nba2k is nice, but some people they obviously didn’t get to facial cap, and they look bootleg. and the menu looks shitty as well. almost like there’s nothing to do in the game.
still need to knack, blacklight, and contrast. i feel like i could spend a lot of time on warframe more than any other of the games i played. its very pretty. and tps coop is fun.
no problems at all with my system, still. just that its distracting me from getting real life stuff done.
killzone really makes it difficult to tell where you need to go. they do some stuf with flares and random landmarks, but nothing is ever really “clear”. there’s this one part in the first level where you get to this dam with platforms and jumps, and it seems like it will lead you to this crash site. so you platform and do all this other stuff, and then you can’t go anywhere. it turns out you needed to go right, using your zip line (too far to jump) into an open forest, which just feels… non-intuitive? its literally an open forest, where as soon as you zip down, there’s people surrounding you and its really troublesome to do any crowd control, except if you zip lined down from the cliff side instead of going to the dam.
in general, i’ve felt more time lost in empty dark rooms than i have shooting things about 30 minutes in. at the beginning of the mission, you’re dropped into this room that apparently you’ve been living in or some shit, and it points you in a direction, but the way out of the room is to the right in some corner with a poorly lit graffiti telling you that there’s a hole there. they use flares to light the path you’re supposed to go, but in order to see theses flares on top of ledges, you actually need to go to an elevated position across the room. its minorly inconvenient, but unnecessary design element when a level should encourage you to head the direction you’re supposed to go.
so its wonky in the sense that it feels like its trying to be more open on how you progress through levels, giving you that openness that all these fps fags think they want, but they lose clarity and cohesiveness, which is what level design should be about. you should have your main path, but give you optional paths that encourage you to explore, not give you tons of options in hopes that you find the main path.
warframe was online, and didn’t see any issues. i didn’t try killzone mp… i’m already not a huge fan of your standard fps, but considering the launch lineup, its kinda hard to avoid them.
When you touch down in the forest (killzone) you actually have a decision after the plaforming I kinda like the sandbox feel of it.
When I touched down I went to the communications tower and hacked it and killed everyone there in that base
Made life a lot easier throughout that part
Sort of ambigious but gives you multiple ways to finish the missions
I wanna get more finesse with the system before I go online
yeah, i understand the thinking, and people seem to hate corridors in fps. in fact, most of the reviews dock points for it in kz at the end of the game.
but if making something open was all a level designer had to do, then anyone could be a level designer. there are things to consider in good level design like flow and direction and landmarking. i haven’t seen anything like that yet outside of just waypoints, and i get th style they are going for. its just wonky and unintuitive, but you’ll get to where you’re going eventually.
What can you compare the gameplay in the new KZ game to, subt-L?
Is it more like KZ2 where it has that “heavy” feel, yet managed to still be pretty fast-paced when it came to its gunplay, or is it more KZ3 where it’s practically CoD?
That’s pretty much my stance. I probably won’t get a PS4 until 2 years from now, and there’s so many games I haven’t yet bought for the PS3 that probably won’t get a next-gen upgrade/remake anyway.
Will I miss-out early on Infamous SS and The Order 1886? Sure, but I’ll probably be able to buy them at $40 while being excited about their inevitable sequels. Bragging rights aren’t much of anything if you’re not in grade school or showing-off on the internet, I’ll be just fine without it.
Was does waiting get you? A bigger variety of games, solidly produced hardware, better-developed games, matured UI/firmware, and more leftover cash in your pockets.
I agree. Moving parts will be the death of average consumers… SSDs are still pricey, but hybrid HDD/SSD are a more affordable swap for the HDD in the PS4 if you want faster access speeds. Nevertheless, still might have a better chance to chill for the 2nd and 3rd wave of shipments. Waiting til after the holidays when they’ll be in stock regardless of what day it is.
C’mon MGSV and FFXV… Mama’s waiting for ya.
Anyone that hasn’t wised up to check around for HDMI cables and buys $60 Monster cables from Best Buy deserve to get have their wallets reamed by not being an informed consumer. We live in a time all the information is at our finger tips. No adult that is of sound mind has an excuse anymore.
it doesn’t feel as heavy or plodding as i remember. i’m gonna be giving it another shot tonight. last night was sort of a sample everything night, so once this warriors game finished up i’m gonna be putting in some time into it.
but while i was watching the game, i found my vita. and goddamn… remote play is legit. shit looks beautiful, and i can barely notice the lag.
I need tekken to get a ps4 update
But yeah I brought this now so I wouldn’t have to think about it
Plus my Xbox and wii had issues so its fitting to flip that and other cash towards this money can go to other priorities in the future.
Wow so because it’s something you don’t want to hear it’s that hip internet buzz word trolling? I said it has no games because I think they all suck. And I know not everyone’s going to agree with that. I wasn’t trying to troll at all. Just state how I felt about it.
