Good point, although I’m not sure exactly how that would work since I’m not a very experienced writer myself. I get the feeling that no matter how you write it, there will be a section of your audience that doesn’t get it. Especially when writing for children. But then again, plenty of animated movies manage to do it. Idunno
There’s undoubtedly always gonna be a section of the audience that doesn’t get it, but they normally don’t fall inside of the demographic that the creators are shooting at. When the writers start to alienate the people that they are trying to attract, then they’re not doing it right. Sure, I understand moving the series more towards kids, but they can’t forget about adults. The 20+ age group grew up playing Sonic games and watching the shows. Ignoring them in lieu of a show that wouldn’t even partially appeal to that group is, in my opinion, not the best move on Sega’s part.
The best way to represent Knuckles personality wise is to base him straight off of how he is in the Archie Comics. Honestly it wasn’t until later in the Sonic X series when Knuckles started to be written as an idiot, and fucking Yami was voicing him, before he was portrayed as a cool and collected badass. “Knuckles never runs from a fight”
He get’s tricked alot because he was isolated growing up living alone on Angel Island guarding the Master Emerald, he doesn’t understand what may be common to someone who has dealt with meeting random people often, Knuckles only assumes good nature. Writers have taken that little flaw for just plain old stupidity for too long. He may have been tricked by Eggman in Sonic 3, but Knuckles accomplished many feats, feats that an idiot can’t accomplish.
Ambushing Sonic and beating him out of his super form, AND he stole the emeralds.
Putting Sonic through hell during his time on the island by having preset traps prepared.
Realizing his mistakes and helping Sonic afterwards.
Knuckles is not an idiot and I need Sega to put more effort into making him cool again, he was designed to be cooler than Sonic anyway, because when I was a kid they had me convinced he was the coolest. Kids now days are gonna think of him as nothing more than an big idiot.
I wouldn’t say that they’re ignoring us as much as they are expanding their audience. They already have us, we’ll play the Sonic Team games. But they can use this to get a whole new audience as well.
The more I think about it the Boom design’s validity as the next redesign is questionable. It’s just as valid as the Archie comic and DIC cartoon designs.
Official but not mainline. Your info-graphic made me think of that.
Yeah I didn’t actually forget SA2’s green hill but I wasn’t really a fan of the composition and the sound for that version of GHZ. I guess I just find it boring to me in comparison to Generation’s Classic version of it which almost sounds identical but the small added parts here and there to it actually elevate it enough to be different and good imo…specifically the bass and drums. They also did a really good job of redoing the synth and making it not as high pitched in areas. If there was any empty space in OG GHZ’s composition then I think Generation’s Classic GHZ filled it.
I really wished they had done DLC stages for Generations…you could have had my whole pocket Sega. I want to give you money but you won’t let me!
I don’t game on PC anymore. And I’d like to have the redone music to go along with the stages which the modders lack despite the great work they’ve put in.
Edit:
Speaking of music. If there’s one aspect that of Sonic Boom that I’m having a hard time being even slightly optimistic on at this point it’s the music…I have strong feeling right now that it’s not going to live up to the standard for the series.
yeah I was talking more about the stage itself which I personally found and still find to be more fun than generation’s modern version. The generations version might be more fun if you weren’t holding boost for 95% of the stage >_>
Also, I got Generations on PS3 at midnight, were people really happy with 30fps and those fucking load times? I got it for 7.50 on Steam a few months later and never looked back.
Normally I’m all for the ‘PC MASTER RACE’ argument, but in all honesty, playing PC has its downfalls too. The worst you can say about a console game 90% of the time is that it sucks. PC games come with technical errors and all other sorts of issues, sometimes even on great computers. Shit load times? I’d take that over the game not fucking working.
First off, can we stop using memes to describe things?
Second, yes it does. It really does. But it’s pretty rare to have a game flat out not work in my 3+ years of being on PC. I actually stopped playing Sonic Generations on PS3 because I love to play the levels over and over but the loading was so obnoxious it made doing that a huge chore, getting a game over (to try the stage again if I messed up) meant like 2-3 minutes of bullshit.
