The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.7 2017 its been generations since the last good sonic game

So 3DS eshop in Japan got a demo for Sonic Lost World…SALT

Here’s a speed run someone put up of the 3ds demo zone 1

Games Radar also put up an S rank run of Windy Hill Zone 1 for Wii U

He’s not even running full speed in the second video so we all know that this can easily be MUCH faster.

Edit: They released the Wii U demo in japan as well…please release this next week.

The game got street date broken in Austria. Member of Sonic Stadium got hands on it and put his impressions up of the Wii U version.

also he put up some gameplay footage

I have no money to get it right now, I’ll definitely find a way soon enough.

“Story: Dialogue from the D6 are pretty dark and gritty. But the overall feel of the story, cartoonish. One thing for sure: Much better than the Story of Generations. Aaand maybe Colours. But I’ve still have to see the rest of the story.”

Really all I think the cutscenes in a sonic game should be, thank god.

Gametrailers did a top 5 worst Sonic games. The choices were predictable

Supposedly the review embargo on Sonic Lost World ends at 4AM tomor…uh…today. There’s also been some streams of the game floating around that I’ve been trying my hardest not to click on and avoid.

Both versions getting hammered…I’m still buying eventually though.

Yeah I’m reading through IGN’s right now and when I get the chance I’ll read through the others. Seems the complaint mostly stems from the way how he’s controlled in the game from what I’m reading. In other words they don’t like the fact that it’s slowed down considerably and is actually trying to play like a mario platformer than a sonic one. I’m still planning to buy both and I’ll give my own impressions on it.

Edit:

yeah taking a quick look through of some of these reviews is taking my hype level down a peg…which is probably what I needed lol. Some of the people on Gaf who played the game mentioned that the bosses were indeed lame. I wanted this game to be the first in a while to have gotten great reviews but I guess them trying to go for some experimentation backfired. Looks like we’ll be going back to Unleashed/Generations/Colors style gameplay with the next one.

agreed. the choices where solid but I want to throw in heroes as a wildcard pick

When they first showed the game I had problems with how the autorun levels seemed to be really slow. I mean if it is a level where you are in autorun then it should have been up to unleashed speed at least.
For the other levels I wont know until I play the game but I am sure that I will have problems with the autoscroller levels.

Mecha Sonic Vs Mecha Knuckles was very cool. Used to collect those comics hardcore until my local corner store died off.

Gametrailers gave Lost World a positive review

IGN’s review was bad, not the game but how it reviewed was horrible.

But the other reviews do bring up some notable flaws when comes to the game, whether it’s too many different level-based gameplay mechanics being relied upon in the latter half of the game, to unnecessary motion controls for wisp powers. Then there’s too many moves being tied to the jump button, and stuff like ring collecting only being applied to the end-level score (no 100 rings for an extra life and losing every ring in 1 hit).

Gamesradar’s and Destructoid’s reviews are much more constructive but a bit less damning in terms of what’s good and bad.

Yea i liked Jim’s review. He pointed out the flaw but shined a good bright light on the positives. I’m not broken up over the reduced speed, or the jump button having two functions cuz Sonic games have been like that for a while, i guess it’s sort of part for the course and something I’ll learn to use well once I’ve gotten good play time in. Also on the subject of motion controls for wisps, maybe I’m remembering wrong but I was sure as shit you where able to turn them off and just use tradition control input for the wisps, but none of the reviews I’ve read have mentioned that even once…

I’m really excited over stuff far more important to me then the negatives. There’s really good platforming. The level designs are super strong. On the whole Sonic is really controllable. Multiple paths through levels that really change the pace and play of the stage. Speed as a reward instead of the point.

This still sounds like a Sonic game to own to me.

motion controls for wisps were optional from what I remember reading.

I really thought this would be the game to bring back Sonic to the upper 9’s. It still looks really fun though and I get the feeling the speed runs will change everyone’s minds on how fast this game could be. That being said, if I had a WiiU I’d pick it up.

I haven’t had a chance to watch any video reviews yet but the I came across a few gifs in the Gaf thread from some of the reviews and if that’s a sample of what they consider ‘bad controls’ then I’ll enjoy this game easily. One of them has a guy running into a wall despite having plenty of time to dodge and the others are due to them stupidly not using the run button.

post in question:

^Someone should e-mail those gifs to their respective reviewers.

They made Sonic slower during his default run and he stops right when you let go. My initial impression is he’s never been as easy to control. I haven’t played the game myself so I can’t say much but damn at those gifs.

Someone overlayed some audio from IGN’s and another review over gameplay that contradicts what they’re saying

lmao sounds like homeboy wanted a straight hallway to turbo boost down with no obstacles in his way.

Ughhh, it’s almost painful to see such brilliant level design get dismissed and rejected due to the severe lack of skill and mastery over the mechanics. Love the GB crew but they’re dead wrong, clearly this is a sonic that requires some control over the mechanics and they’re trying to play it like it’s a Genesis Sonic and getting frustrated when it doesn’t work.
