But there are bunches of characters people glom onto that people would like to see, not to be a jerk but isnt there a show with ponies doing the same godamned thing right now.
What you see fit for the series, and what is actually fit is different.
Shadows family and friends were shot to death in space, tails is an orphan and knuckles ancestors were murderious cult people that burned people alive.
shadow saying damn kinda seems like a moot point
hell egg sonic adenture one had a liquid dinosaur that murdered an entire city of people
I disagree with the new characters being the source of problematic new mechanics. Seems to me like a mechanic is problematic by virtue of it being faulty. To give Sonic Adventure some credit, it handles Tailsā flight waaaaay better than any 2D Sonic; itās fast, it doesnāt require rapid tapping, and it feels intuitive.
I will say that any given Sonic should limit the scope of what characters it wants to include, and make sure those characters play well. So Iām all for less selectable characters in a given game.
https://www.srb2.org/ <-- This is the DOOM engine game I speak of. Itās not perfect but itās based on Classic DOOM, which itself was, in many ways, a Sonic game with guns.
See, Silver is a problem because by design he cannot run fast and his core mechanic is frankly; quite boring.
I liked a little bit of shooting with Gamma in Sonic Adventure 1 and some of my favorite 2-D Sonic is with Amy in Advance 1, Iām not against different play times so long as it all feels quick, Iād be fine with a game that let you choose 5-6 characters where all the stages were designed to be played differently by all the characters (like Sonic 3 and Knuckles or Sonic Advance in 3-D) it could have Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Shadow and Blaze but it probably couldnāt have Silver, see where Iām going with this?
I agree for the most part except in Silverās case, BUT I get where youāre coming from, as to facilitate Silverās entire mechanic the stages need to be designed around him. But thatās not so different from, say, S3&K stages having Knuckles/Tails routes, and in Knucklesā case, routes he can possibly make his way through with gliding/climbing.
So theoretically, how would Silver work in a 2D Sonic?
(Thought experiment incoming.)
Letās put him into S3&K. Silverās speed isnāt that big a concern, because they can just, well, speed him up, so heād get baseline Sonic speed like everyone else (even Eggman runs fast in Adventure 2 outside his mech). Does he need a rolling jump? Probably not; let him telekinetically grab enemies to huck at other enemies, Mario 2 style. Maybe he can grab monitors? When they break over an enemy Silver would get the powerup.
Bosses, thatās a little trickier. Some shoot things at you; those are doable. For the ones that donāt, well, youād need to add something to the fight. Or maybe Silver could have his Sonic Generations psycho-knife? It would have to have cons over his default grab/throw to not make said grab/throw obsolete; maybe it has charge time.
Thatās some good thinking except that itās already a known weakness of Silver that heās slow, Eggman running fast in the chao garden is probably something of a joke. We do gotta keep it fairly close to the universeās rules and thatās another thing: unless they rework where Silver came from it makes absolutely no sense if he were to appear again, now Iām not against a strong story but 06 wasā¦ shitty.
Some people would love Sonic to be super grave and serious all the time and it an have those moments but anything stronger than Sonic Adventure 2 just comes off as weird.
That Doom mod is strange, apparently its best played with a keyboard and mouse but why would they do that?
Tails and Knuckles have both shown Sonic-like levels of speed in-universe, but in some games theyāre slow. Including Silverās debut game, Sonic '06, where even SHADOW had a horrendously slow running speed. And Sonic for that matter. Good lord '06 was shitty.
Anywho, I recently played the very cool boss fight with Silver in Sonic Generations, and Silver shows, in that game and others, that he can easily keep up with Sonic, albeit via telekinetic flight. Thatās how Tails does it, sans telekinesis, so I think itās okay.
Eggman is fast! Itās not just Adventure 2ās Chao Garden; he can motor along in both Sonic 2 and 3&K (both gamesā respective Death Egg zones), but yeah, if heās playable it should probably be in a lock-on missile-shooting mecha.
The Doom mod is best played with a mouse and KB because itās ultimately still Doom. Arguably some really good 3D platformers have such a scheme (Megaman Legends).
I usually agree, but something designed about KB and mouse has such sexy elegant turning and strafing. Though I suppose a twin stick controller would suffice.
Tails and Knuckles were slow in Sonic '06, as was Shadow. And Silver. Hence why Iām saying using '06 as an indicator of Silverās potential speed isnāt a good idea.
I wouldnāt count Sonic Generations simply because he was a boss and just by virtue of how that game worked all bosses had to be able to keep up with Sonic.
They could have made you fight Silver in an arena where Sonic wasnāt always auto-running, but didnāt. Iām still not sure why '06ās depiction of Silverās speed is holding so much weight hereā¦
What do you mean by that? Rivals were the PSP Sonic games. Rivals would count as Silver first canon appearance thatās the next Sonic game he showed up in and considering that Sonic 06 retconed itself out of existence.
For some odd reason pix n love decided they wanted to release a collectorās edition of their History of Sonic book after regular editions start shipping outā¦in either case for those interested
