Shadow is easily a better game than 06. Shadow honestly isn’t too terrible, it’s just a game that tried something different and failed. Aside from the Heroes engine having its moments, the only thing I remember being blatantly annoying was having to play through the game 10 times to unlock the last story, some of the requirements for the Hero/Dark missions being tedious, and the overall feeling that the game was trying to be ‘edgy’. The gun mechanics weren’t that bad either.
I didn’t like how energetic and obnoxious the characters were in heroes. I didn’t even want to switch to some of the characters when the game told me to because I didn’t want to hear their voices.
'06 without a doubt. Shadow might’ve passed under the hate radar if it weren’t for having to replay the game 10 damn times to actually beat it, but it’s not enough to make it vehemently worse than the abomination of '06. It’s just too bad that those two games essentially messed with the Ultimate Lifeform’s Legacy.
'06 is infinitely worse. At least Shadow the Hedgehog is a functional game. It also introduced automatic rail-switching.
Shadow the Hedgehog could have actually been great if the level design and mission structure were better. Some levels (like those flashback levels on the Ark) were awful, while other levels (like that level where you race against Sonic) were actually fun to play through.
Similarly, some missions (like the multitude of “kill all enemies” and “collect all important things” missions) were a total chore, while others (like activating the towers in one of those computer levels) offered unique ways to play through the levels by giving you alternate paths and stuff.
It’s a shame that the bad outweighed the good, though.
Not sure if you’re exaggerating or just really slow. Werehog levels could be done in 10 minutes if you went about them quickly. It only got long if you played the level thoroughly to get all of the collectibles, and even then it was like 45 minutes max.
That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the part in Jungle Joyride Night, right before the goal ring, where you have to press four switches in the right order. You probably never got up to it.
I’ve played all of those games (except for Sly) and yes, I know, they’re better than the werehog. Remember what I said? It was something like this:
Even if you hate the werehog, if you can find it in yourself to just tolerate it then the rest of the game is fantastic (unlike Sonic 06, where the whole game is shittastic).
I wouldn’t mind a 2nd shot at a shawdow game that fixes all of the BS from the original. I didn’t hate it though or at least didn’t think it was extremely terrible. The missions did become a bit annoying after awhile though…I dunno some felt very reptitive.
sonic 06…why are shadow and sonic running at the same speed of amy from sonic adventure…
whoa its been 11 years going on 12 and we still dont have SA3…
Not only that, but Omega is faster than Sonic. XD
I do have to ask though, was the drop in fun at mushroom hill like the grinding halt to gameplay that was Carnival night zone?
Because that’s the worst sonic level I have ever experienced.
You must have PBSD (Post Barrel Stress Disorder). Carnival Night was okay for me, although it was definitely below average. Act 2 was way too freaking long.
Unleashed had amazing presentation and good elements but ultimately become weighed down to some TERRIBLE design and creative choices. I can give sega credit for trying something new but not at the expense of common sense, and out of all the games I’ve played in the last 10 years I can easily say unleased was 1 of the few that really went out of its way to annoy the fuck out of the play.
Shadow’s game would have been a lot better (read: tolerable) if they didn’t do that stupid “you have to play the game 7 times to finish it completely” bullshit. That multiple ending gimmick was done very poorly.
Sonic 06 was just a broken pile of garbage, and I can’t help but wonder how it would have been if they just kept it in development a little longer.
In terms of best Sonic game, my vote goes to Rush, for 2D at least.
06 without a doubt. At least Shadow was functional game. Though the secret third option, Sonic and the Black Knight is much worse game than Shadow
Huh, funny.
I enjoyed Shadow The Hedgehog immensely despite all its shortcomings.
He was NOT as slow as amy:

Why tolerate a game that’s only 50% good when I can play something that is 100% good?
Story of my life, Marvel…
Because if you didn’t, there’d probably not be a single Sonic game in history you like.
I get your point though, fuck Unleashed, but still.
The advanced sonic games were more like 80/20% IMO…and sonic CD was not 50/50 at all!
Please do elaborate on why Sonic 1-3 are such a drag please.
