The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.3-2012 Sonic 4: Episode 2

Apparently, it’s going to suck like the first one.

Sonic Generations blew me away. It’s easily my favorite Sonic game that’s come out recently. I love this franchise, and I haven’t had this much damn fun with it since the days of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. The nostalgia in the earlier stages was a huge thing for me. I only have one problem with this game:

It only has 9 fucking zones.

Seriously, I picked this game up, played it for about maybe 5 or 6 hours, and bam. I finished the story. And yeah, technically there are 18 zones because you get to play through each one differently with each Sonic, but I call bullshit. There’d better be some new DLC coming out soon with at least 5 new zones…rumor has it though that Casino Night from Sonic 2 is coming out as DLC…it’s a start.

What they really need to bring back are stages like Crazy Gadget, Sandopolis(I think it was called that, from Sonic & Knuckles), and Flying Battery. God, just picture a Flying Battery remix. That shit would be godly.

Have you done the challenges? Most of those are their own levels and are a lot of fun. I have 5 hours logged into my game so far and I haven’t unlocked the final three zones yet.

sonic 4 is decent imo

metal sonic is played out though…imo

HOW DO I GET SONIC BOOM TO PLAY ON SONIC CD…i thought it was the intro song?

I did the challenges that I had to do to unlock the keys. I’m going back now and doing the challenges, though. I just wish the game would have shipped with a larger roster of zones.

Sonic 4 is going for 7 bucks… common sense tells me not to buy it unless it’s 3 bucks or less.

But this Sonic 4 2 news is swaying my better judgment…

You’re jumping the gun here…

the challenges are ok but they can get very repetitive to me at times, and I wanna see Ice Cap DLC!

When I listen to this in-game I get this “stuffs about to go down” or “get outta my way” feeling.

It’s nice to hear that they put more attention on the physics, even though I didn’t have a problem with them in the first episode of Sonic 4.

I’m disappointed at the hate episode 2 is getting before it’s even been released. I suppose it’s stemming from the rumor that someone has played it in advance and made comments on the physics. Even if what he says is true, I still thought episode 1 was fun. Had a lot of good platforming segments and definitely had the element of speed in place.

For those that haven’t played episode 1, the issue with the physics was that you had to always be holding forward to keep Sonic going. For example, you can’t just roll down a hill and let the natural momentum carry you, if you let go of forward Sonic slows to a stop.

Kinda sounds weird in writing but it’s really not that bad. You just have to tell yourself that you’re not still playing Sonic 3. Just go try the demo.

The only thing that really bugged me was how you could stop on the side of a wall and basically stick to it. But he addressed that in the video so that should at least be gone.

Honestly, I love Sonic 4 quite a bit. Getting that achievement by fighting all those last bosses with out getting hit was pretty tough though.

I’d still like to see them use something near the Sonic 3 physics.

Hate Sonic 4 episode 1 for many reasons beyond the bad physics that are nothing like the pinball physics previous games had. I’m sure it has much playability, enjoyability to give it stability, but…

It’s ugly - from modern Sonic’s classic Sonic run, to the jello looking water in the background of the intro. Seriously, if you’re gonna put modern Sonic in this game, make him run like modern Sonic.
Too much emphasis on gaining lives.
Redundant and predictable use of enemies to reach higher platforms.
Sonic’s slow speed.
Even though the game is decent as a platformer, the combination of the physics + level design = not fun to speed run in. The momentum feels dumbed down.
And the biggest let down for me was the soundtrack. I’m in disbelief Jun Senoue could make such cheap & soulless compositions - all of it. Senoue really doesn’t need to try making the music sound 16-bit. He just needs to make the music sound like good music.

What did I like?

The special stages - these were okay.
The use of classic sound effects - this is probably the biggest plus the game had to offer.
The use of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 instruments for the music. The effects and the instruments were the only thing successfully nostalgic about the game for me.

I’m not much of a pessimist, but Episode 2 really is gonna have to climb a huge mountain to impress me. I’m really hoping that Dimps have learned from Ep1 and their work with Generations 3DS. So if there’s evidence of hope (which there is), then it’s got my attention.

Senoue needs to bring his game for Ep 2. Even the worst titles in the series had better music than 4 did imo.

There are so many vids on youtube showing off how bad Sonic 4’s physics are lol…

probably a shot in the dark, but 2p vs. racing this time? please?

Kakapi’s runs are so awesome to watch

Too bad you can’t use skills in Ranking, though.

I’m hoping Episode III will have Knuckles. I’m tired of playing only as Sonic and I’m so glad Episode II has Tails.

Off subject, but I wonder what the chances are of them ever bringing Chaotix out for PSN/XBL. A Taxman port please.

That would be wicked but…how exactly are you supposed to play Knuckles Chaotix again?

With a 32X now. Was that what you were asking?
