The Sonic the hedgehog thread V.3-2012 Sonic 4: Episode 2

First review is up: http://www.gamesradar.com/sonic-generations-3ds-review/

I haven’t read sonic comics since late 90’s-early 00’s I have a bunch of special issues like mecha super sonic vs mecha hyper knucles that was so cool to read as a kid. Also in a side story I remember some voice was directing knuckles to a stone with the word Archimedes on it that was a creepy moment.

The frustrating thing about modern’s was that I would see them as I was going by but by the time I was able to stop it was too late or impossible to back track so I’d have to start the stage over. One of the more frustrating for me was in seaside in the 2D segment where you have to jump from the rail over the block to get it. For some reason I had a terrible time judging when to jump from the rail, took me 2 or 3 tries.

2 or 3 tries is a terrible time? Really? smh.

Well I was also a dumbass and kept restarting the stage when I would miss it. I was playing against last night and realized there was a goal post right before this part so I could have just been dieing to try again

here’s something intresting in the Japanese verison Classic Tails says there’s two Eggmen.

check out the translation a user on youtube did for the Japanese dialogue

edit: as for video game crazy evil mad scientist go Dr. Nefarious is on top of the list. this guy attempt to do mass genocide on a galaxy scale. infact Dr. Nefarious wanted to exterminate all biological life in the universe. oh and Dr. Nefarious almost took over the whole universe.

That’s really interesting, I wonder if there are more things lost in translation in this game.

On a non related Sonic note, you’re right up the road from me man. I’m in Bristol VA  We should play some fighting games some time.

It’s not lost in translation: In Japan he was always Dr. Eggman.
It was when Sonic was released to the west that he was renamed Dr. Robotnik. Tails calling him Dr. Robotnik in the english releases is just a nod to when he was called that, nothing more.
Since in Japan he was always Eggman, Tails is simply just surprised that there are two of him.

Sorry for double posting but could someone explain the main differences between the 3 robot Sonics from 2, CD and 3?
Is there any artwork for the one from 3 that can help show what makes it different from the one in CD?

I believe the name of the order of the robots are Silver, Metal and Mecha. They’re actually all together in Eggman’s base in SA. They’re all in what looks like stasis in tubes or something. Metal sonic looks more sleek and streamlined in comparison to Mecha who has way more edges and sharp points to his design. Silver and Mecha seem to be more mindless than anything while Metal seems to actually have more of a personality to him along with following Robotnik/Eggman’s orders. I think that’s partly has to do with him being designed as Sonic’s equal through and through.

Silver Sonic (Sonic 2): Silver-colored, not smart, shoots spikes. He’s the prototype for . . .

Mecha Sonic (Sonic 3 and Knuckles): Much smarter, shoots spikes. Used the master emerald to become Super Mecha Sonic. He’s the prototype for:

Metal Sonic (Sonic CD): The smartest, fastest, deadliest Sonic. As smart and as fast as the original Sonic, yet still lost the race on Stardust Speedway. Came back in Sonic Heroes as a boss fight. Was referred to as “Hyper Metal Sonic” and “Metal” in the OVA. Has no super form to my knowledge.

Didn’t Sonic CD come out before Sonic 3?

I’m pretty sure it did…it was being developed at the same time as 2.

Planet Wisp is yelling for an adult right now…

Yea. it’s Sonic 1>Sonic2>Sonic CD>Sonic 3…

HOLY SHIT @ 1:31

God damn.

I love watching speedruns of sonic.
Although i cant tell what the hell is going on, it is just amazing watching how fast that shit goes.
It feels like the real sonic is running that shit

Yep that’s the correct release order. The story timeline is debatable though since 2 and CD were being worked on at the same time. I always liked to believe that the events of CD took place before 2 since Tails wasn’t playable (even though that’s about to change when Sonic CD is re-released soon). There’s no real evidence to suggest if it’s before 2 or even after 3 though.

It’s before 2. 2 segues right into Sonic 3.

GT put up 2 vids that I’m assuming are from the collector’s edition

Edit:

Yeah Shadowhaxor has a pretty complete version of Sonic Generations up on their website with everything labeled and the composers for each track.

I’m thinking Sonic -> Sonic 2 -> CD -> 3 and Knuckles.
The Robot Sonic from CD is clearly an upgrade from the fatty Robo Sonic. And in 3+S&K the ability to go super robot sonic is an obvious upgrade. And maybe all the time traveling Robotnik did to find the technology for Robot Sonic to go Super.

Who gives a fuck if tales wasn’t around? Aside from Super Tails in 3S&K he’s always been a pointless character.

Hey Tails was pretty handy in that he always knew just the right time to show up with the Tornado

I agree that Metal Sonic and Mecha Sonic both seem more advanced than Silver Sonic (mostly because Silver’s design is so lazy in comparison) but I think the idea was to try and overpower Sonic with him rather than out-speed him. Which is probably why the Silver fight had you locked in that single room. Metal failed in that Eggman made him to be a little too like Sonic, so I think his idea with Silver was to just make something monstrous.

Mecha Sonic would be the final “robotic Sonic” incarnation, combining both the speed and strength elements.

Again none of that is really cannon or anything. This was just the speculation I made for myself when I was a kid to explain things. I like to hear other people’s take on the timeline though.
