Gotta love how the very day I sign up to Sega.com’s forums… I get an infraction (and it’s hardly legitimate). Took me over a year to get an infraction on SRK, but just one day on Sega’s forums.
So my friend works at a videogame retailer and was able to nab a copy of Sonic Generations early. I played it for most of the day and have to say it is by far the most AMAZING Sonic game I have ever played. The remixes of stages, music, bosses, characters, and enemies were done sooooooo well. After playing this game for 30 min you can tell that there was an enormous amount of thought process put in to this game. I’m pretty sure the main thing that was written on their wall of things to accomplish with this game was “Don’t fuck this up”. The amount of detail is amazing, I mean the way they take some of the 2D platformed Sonic worlds and turn them in to 3D and vice versa is beautiful. Original tracks are kept for all the stages I have played so far and characters that you haven’t seen in a very long time make come backs. Believe me, when you see some of these guys you will be almost as enthusiastic as I was. I was like that one kid who received that N64 for Xmas. Ok, maybe not that excited. Also, they take references from EVERY Sonic universe that I can remember and add something about them in to this game. I’m going to create a spoiler here to announce one of them because I just can’t contain myself:
In the first cut scene it shows that there is a surprise party happening for Sonic. The food of choice? MOTHER FUCKIN’ CHILI DOGS!!!
Honestly, I had given up hope on the Sonic franchise in general thinking that nothing could ever top SA2 but this makes me a huge fan and a believer once again. Story is actually good, game play is great, side missions are fun as hell, taking a stroll down memory lane is priceless. Get this game to hold you over until that next fighter that you have been eagerly waiting gets released, you won’t be disappointed.

why are people hating on the Shadow boss Remix? it isnt to bad and it sounds much better in motion when actually playing…
So much good music in this game! I can’t believe they went as far as to pull stuff from Chaotix, that Door into Summer remix is amazing.
I have buddies at Gamestop that can sell me the game right now, but alas I’m broke until next week.

ah damn, I probably shouldn’t say this but I was hoping this game wasn’t that good so I wouldn’t get it (Ultimate/KOF obligation) now I might have change my thoughts on this. I didn’t preorder the game, so I hope I still have the option of swapping it by walk-in.
I was watching the boss fight and since it was the sonic vs shadow spcae fight it made perfect sense they gave him that theme. I also loved how they implemented live and learn and all hail shadow into the fight aswell.

I at first started to hate on it because I wanted a full Live and Learn mix for the game. As a I listened to the mix more though on it’s own and after actually watching how the boss fight plays out I appreciate it a lil more and actually dig what they did with For True Story.
…still wanted my Live and Learn though…
I’m pretty amazed at the fact that there’s actually far more people than I thought that are willing to hold off on Uncharted 3 and get Generations instead.
I’m curious as to what it was that made them dislike it.

just finished reading the review…I have issues with it but I’m going to wait until tomorrow when I can get my hands on the game.

I think all game sites and magazines are set to automatic hate Sonic games mode and they’ll probably stay that way for the foreseeable future. I don’t know what they want or expect out of a Sonic game. Generations pretty much delivers what fans have been asking of Sega for years.
Protip for reviewers: Platformers have cliffs and drop offs in them. Shocker I know. I know this was a problem in Sonic’s early 3D versions but it seems they’ve got a handle on them by now. If you fell off a cliff with your first life try to make an attempt to learn and avoid it the next time, that’s what extra lives are for.
