The 3ds vid didn’t look nearly as bad as the article described but yeah it does look too easy especially the remake of sonic 3 final boss fight WTF such a slap in the face to sonic fans how do you go from a semi challenging final boss fight to that easy kiddie pool shit I mean really? At least the music is GDLKE.

Sonic2 is my favorite fucking game ever and that’s partially due to it’s art style and graphics, of course I’ve always wanted an HD remake so I appreciate the effort and it look okay but with an HD remake I want a full re imagining not a nostalgic homage. This looks much better it’s pure sex and feels almost as good when playing XD:

In those videos, I find the visuals of Emerald Hill to be rather impressive though the backdrop reminds me more of Green Hill from Sonic 1. How the acts change visually is reminiscent of Sonic Advance 3 and it’s nice to see rainy weather.

I wasn’t too impressed with the music in the 3DS version. Some of it sounded quite lazy (as someone else already described) but I thought some of it was pretty good at the same time.

To clarify I meant only the big arm boss music was GDLKE, that’s how remixed music should be done faithful to the original but with an epic orchestral touch.

I don’t quite remember Sonic being able to bounce off of enemies higher a la Mario by holding the button. I was pretty sure it was all momentum based and relative to your initial height from which you jumped upon said enemy. I could be wrong though.

I think my eyes teared up a little bit…The transition between Seaside Hill and Crisis City was awesome.

You pretty much said it better than I did. Yes, you maintain the same height from which you jumped on an enemy. So if I jumped on an enemy (or a power up box) from a higher platform and held down the button until impact, regardless of the height I would bounce back up to the original height in the original games. In Generations, that luxury is gone to a certain extent. If you jump on something the same height as yourself, you’ll automatically bounce up to your max jump height. However, if you jump on something that’s above your ground level (regardless of your jump’s height), you’ll automatically bounce up a bit higher than normal. This is easily noticeable at the very first split of the stage where a dark hornet botnik will allow you access to a higher platform if you jump on it at the right time. In fact there are many parts of Green Hill 1 that express how this can be used.

It’s a very weird aspect in his attack that initially made me feel like I have a bit less control of Sonic but I don’t think it’s gonna be that bad. It’s not going to stop me from holding down the jump button though… I can’t see myself getting comfortable with just pressing the button and aiming with the directional buttons.

Another plus i just now noticed while playing classic Sonic is that he stops a LOT faster from a roll. But if he’s just running, he damn near stops on a dime, even at max running speed with the speed shoes…

Yeah it was like that from the first demo and first few hands-on impressions of the game so I’ve already mentally prepared myself and came to grips with it. It just shows that Sega hasn’t gotten the phyisics completely back really. The game still looks like it’ll lay great so I’m willing to meet Sega halfway if only for the fact that I’m hoping they’ll continue to improve. One of the telling moments will probably be how Sonic 4 Episode 2 will control once we finally get some footage of that. Still mind boggling how people who just do something in their spare time understand the games physics far better than the company that actually gets paid to do the game.

The more I play this demo, the more I’m feeling this classic Sonic. I just noticed something extremely weird. Near the end of the stage where there are speed shoes you have to jump across to the right to reach the next platform, but if you’ve fallen to the bottom you have to go up then you have to go backwards and across to reach the platform with the shoes. I decided to spin dash across to the platform of the speed shoes and though I got across okay (as Sonic now in running animation) he literally bounces off the powerup and starts running in the opposite direction! Like the box had a spring on it or something LOL. (You can just jump across to reach it btw.) I could take this seriously and be like, “WTF? FLAW” but it’s too fucking funny right now lol. Maybe I’ll record a video of it…

I’m loving the sonic gen demo! I don’t know how any sonic fan can be mad at this!

Man…I’m listening to some of the music that is getting leaked from the demo and this game is such a big love letter.




I can’t stop playing it… my favorite Sonic stage of all time is Green Hill. I could just live with the demo until the price drops to $19.99 LOL (but I won’t) Modern Sonic & classic Sonic are pretty much equal. I’m randomly playing both like I’m trying to figure out which one I love most. I’ve never preferred one over the other and this demo doesn’t even wanna make that an option. It’s awesome.

And what’s up with all the music getting leaked? Does Sonic Team put this shit in the game for hype knowing someone’s gonna try and hack it? I refuse to listen to it. To me, the music being spoiled is just as important as the last battle being spoiled. I’ll wait. :slight_smile:

They still will find something to complain about, whether it’s JUST to complain or because certain elements are how THEY want it to work as.
Really though if you like it and there aren’t a lot of things that annoy you about it, why should you care what other Sonic fan’s gripes are about it?
The game looks to be one of the best if not the best 3D Sonic game in a long time.

Modern sonic is perfect I have no complaints:D Classic sonic however, has 3 minor issues and 1 big one. His jump needs to be a little higher, when he spin dashes he can’t stop immediately he has to go a set distance before stopping, and he stops on a dime instead of coming to a screeching halt. Even though these are 3 problems genesis sonic never had they’re still not a big deal but what pisses me off is how classic sonic can’t hold down while spin dashing without losing momentum>:(

Overall demo is GDLKE, SG definitely looking like GOTY to me so far.

Yeah, I hope they fixed that in the final build because it’s actually an option to perform which adds to it’s classic feel, but it’s useless since it’s better to just hold the spin dash button. The only real plus to classic Sonic (if you play this game and a classic title back to back) you’ll notice that classic Sonic’s movement has improved. In Generations, he feels a bit less sluggish from a stop. His mobility has also slightly increased when he’s airborne and I feel those subtle changes somewhat keep him up to speed without really taking anything away from what makes classic Sonic feel classic. Overall, I’d say he also feels slightly faster (run speed) and ridiculously faster from a spin dash. The only time spin dashes feel weak is when you use them to climb something vertical. Again, probably not a big deal. I’m just glad the spin dash doesn’t remind me of Sonic Adventure. I remember them being pretty damn useless in that game (but I’ve never seen speed runs so i could be wrong).

I’m starting to do speed runs for the hell of it. My fastest time with modern Sonic so far is 1:57:57.
