If only Hijinx never got the SH Hd collection project.
I really wanted to buy this collection but after doing research and receiving answers to my questions in this thread, I’ve decided to just not buy it. I understand that the ps2 versions are the best but I gave my ps2 away to my relatives because theirs broke. I’m just going to end up playing SH1 from the ps store, if for some miracle I find a ps2 disc for sh2 and sh3 that won’t rape my wallet I’ll go ahead and buy them, but until then, I’ll just play sh1.
Pretty sure you can find both used on Amazon for cheap. Probably find the pc versions for cheap too.
I don’t think my laptop can handle ps2 games, it can barely handle n64 games. I’ll check on amazon right now, because I was seeing sh2 for about $50 last I recall.
There are PC ports with 60 FPS for Silent Hill 2, 3, 4 and I think Origins as well. They don’t have very high system requirements and even if your computer doesn’t run them on the highest settings, it should still run them fine on the lowest. I didn’t think they’d work on mine either but they ran perfectly, so I’d suggest [S]going to the pirate bay and finding a torrent [/S] finding a copy of one of them and giving that a shot.
Saw Silent Hill 2 on Sunday. It was not good.
Oh man, I didn’t realize that one of the producers of Resident Feeble was involved in this.
lol at these reviews.
TRSHE goes through this in extensive detail, but for the benefit of having to avoid a 3 hour video series I’ll explain the gist of it. The silent hill series was originally intended to end with 3 so the majority of team silent bolted out of development once the game was completed. Unhappy with letting a brilliant collection of games alone(1-3),konami decided to milk the series some more which is what brought us the uneven SH4. With all it’s problems it still had a core of the original SH vibe though, since some of the team silent members were still active during it’s development. For its faults it still is a SH game even if it its the black sheep of the family. This would have been the appropriate time to leave the series alone but konami just couldn’t help themselves.
When development for every post SH4 game was handed to american teams these guys basically had no clue what the fuck SH was about let alone on what makes a games scary…especially SH scary. Aside from botching the origin of the plot, the premise behind the town and the cult and what the nightmare and disturbing sounds and image are suppose to mean, these guys latched onto every generic trend in american horror and essentially turned SH into nothing more then a american slasher flick that relies on jump scares, horror tropes and recycled ideas from past SH games. There wasn’t any evolution but rather a erosion, think the transformers movies but in the horror genre.
What makes matters worse is that every developer since SH4 seems to think the old SH games are dated and need to be “redefined”. This is no more true with the creative decisions behind the new SHHD voices, which are either terrible or completely miss the original intention behind the narrative. Bottom line, SH fans hate post SH4 games because they are made from people who arent fans of 1-4 and as a result dont understand what the games are supposed to be about, its basically just a paycheck for them. In a way the fate of SH is similar to that of RE, with the only exception being that RE fans are FINALLY getting their shit together and letting capcom know they are tired of RE being a western action movie. At this point in time I really wish konami would just let the SH retire so that we can at least still remember 1-4 with some grace and dignity.
Why the hell can’t they just do a remake of SH1 with awesome graphics and better control?
I’d pay good money for that.
I’d pay good money for that.
What’s happening with RE is nowhere similar to what happened to Silent Hill. As much as people bitch about RE abandoning survival horror the games in the main series still remained good in the new direction. No, no one’s got their “shit” together. RE5 is the best selling game in the series, RE6 already sold 2 mil on month one supposedly. The trash game Raccoon Shitty sold 2 mil. That’s not getting shit together.
True I admit I get emotional when talking about RE. I feel like its a friend who just suckered punched me and continued to so for a few minutes afterwards. I did enjoy RE4 but I always felt the RE I grew up was gone, RE5 just broke my heart.
Nothing quite compares to the downward spiral of SH…except maybe sonic.
At least Sonic is starting to show some promise. Sega seems to be getting the hang of what Sonic fans want. Whatnot with the release of Colors, Generations, Episode 2, and HD Adventure 2.
Took awhile to get there though. it was a dreaded era post SA2 that lasted for 1 whole console generation. If it wasn’t for the advanced and DS sonic games I would have just fucked off with sonic a long time ago. I hope SH can follow suit and perhaps with downpours bad reviews and the massive backlash on the HD collection they will finally learn.
Too be fair, I will admit that SH4 possibly has one of the best theme to a game out of the entire series.
Part 3 sounds too much like j-pop (which is what it is, so that’s whatever), and Part 2 fits the game… but… I dunno part 4 struck me as a ‘stronger’ theme.
But I will say that the final boss battle in part 4 beats out all the other ones, that’s for sure.
Just finished watching the review of those white dudes on the HD collection, and yeah, I’m not buying it now.
Didn’t realize the dude in charge of the HD thing wanted to change the game THAT much. I wasn’t a fan of part 3, so I never saw it the way they did. I didn’t think of Vincent as that type of character, so I can see how the new voices will kill it for some people. Aside from the port looking overall lazy, it’s funny how the dude working on the HD collection claims to have more love for the series than ANYONE, yet goes on saying, “I had an entire new script written for the game!!”… WTF?
Then we got the VA directors going, “lol, the old VAs are nobodys! Who gives a fuck about them, they don’t even do VA!” when Konami was like, “We picked them cause… they sound human and didn’t over act so it’s easier to relate to the character… and stuff” which is odd cause I actually enjoyed the original VA.
I’m going to go ahead and just buy the HD collection, I’ve never played sh2 or 3 so it won’t have much of an impact one me.
You can choose the old VA’s for SH2, and some minor bugs have been fixed with 2 patches I believe, but overall it’s still crap. Only reason I’m doing it is because I suck/don’t know how to torrent, and I don’t have a ps2 to play the original games. Oh well.
Should watch the review after you’re done playing the game.
I’ve had buddies play the HD version and felt like the game was “good”. Then after presenting them that reviewing, they really wanted to play the original.
Yes, I’ve already seen most of the reviews on Youtube, I know the game is crap but at this point I really have no other alternative.
BTW, anyone seen the rail shooter for this game? Looks fun as fuck.
The story looks stupid, but who cares, it’s a rail shooter! However, I’ll have to give it bonus points for using Silent Hill 2’s theme for the intro of the game. It looks so out of place seeing the people drive into Silent Hill while that song plays, but whatever!
