The Silent Hill Thread: "How to" guide on giving birth to a god

ive never played any of the silent hill games but I enjoy the resident evil series…will I enjoy them and if so how do they compare in turns of gameplay?

Well Silent Hill for the most part had the tank controls like the earlier RE titles. When homecoming came out, they switched to a more action based control scheme, though not as crisp. I think the SH games (mainly 2+3) are scarier than Re, but it really depends. SH is really big on atmosphere and puzzles, so i think if you want to feel nervouse while you play, then you will enjoy them.

If you played RE1 and SH1, they’re almost the same game, as Konami shamelessly copied the play style. The only difference is with SIlent Hill the story is incomprehensible at first playthrough, and the entire mood is very nightmarish and psychological as opposed to RE which is rooted more in reality (…with zombies).

If you’re talking RE4, the later Silent Hill games will be similar, but with less action and intensity and more atmosphere.

They may have patched the SH HD collection (seriously watch that video in my post farther up, 2 hour long review of it) but I think its SH3 you can’t swap VAs in. Idk really want to play 2&3 but I’m gonna have to A. find time around my school/work schedule B. get OG ps2 or PC copies of the games C. play all the other games I want to play but don’t have time for :bluu:

This isn’t a SH thread unless this question is asked…

What does “the fear of blood tends to create fear of the flesh” means?

There are ton of plot and characters were inconstant with Origins in relation to the original game. It also tried to take a Silent Hill 2 approach to it’s story but it was nowhere near as developed as SH2 was. Getting to the “otherworld” through mirrors was a big sour point

for those of you who are die hard fans or just people who have played the games NEED to watch these videos
now you can understand the story of silent hill a little better, and why some of the fans don’t accept anything after 4 as a “silent hill” game
i found these videos to be very enlightening, entertaining, and very thorough.

edit: also after watching this is made me an even bigger fan of the series than i already was

So SH1-3 are very similar to RE1? This is now a must buy for me, I’m going to order the HD collection now.

No, SH is actually SCARY, and the gore is graphic. This series fucks with your mind.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I was talking about the control scheme.

And, my mind is ready to be fucked.

Now tell me, will the mind fuck be better at night or during the day? And should I wear headphones?

Could have searched

Please read before you post. Someone already tried to make this point, so I will respond with the exact same comment:

Probably didn’t show up when I searched it because the thread is over 5 years old.

This one has recent info on the franchise and more topic content anyway, let’s see where it goes.

Night time, headphones for sure.

Also, look at the monsters and look at the characters as you play. Try to visualize what underlying tones the monsters represent, and all of the amazing metaphors that are taking physical shape around you.

you’re better off playing the original ps2 versions of the game

warning these videos do contain spoilers but is a very thorough analysis of the port

So I have the collection now, and I’m starting my playthrough of Silent Hill 2. When I started 2 up it gives you the option of switching between the new and old voice actors every time you pop it in, so that’s neat. However I started up 3 and it didn’t give me the same option. I haven’t played it yet because I want to beat them in order, but my assumption would be that the new voices are the default setting in 3.

I love these games so much. This collection is just simply awesome, and it even comes with the Maria storyline. Playing in full HD let’s me see all the gore and disfigurement of the monsters and enviorments in a way I’ve never seen outside of the PC port. Achievements are nice as well.

I also love all the unlockables you get for beating 3. That should be fun.

Hopefully I can talk my friends into seeing the movie tonight, but I doubt it .

The vids Davidstar linked we’re the ones I posted farther up. I’m gonna try and run through the rest of 1 during Thanksgiving break, really like it so far, going to have to pick up 2 and 3 I’ll think about the rest but definately getting those two.

Anybody read the comics? There was a sale on ComiXolgy I wanted to check with you guys before I got any of them. Even though I think the sale is over now, unfortunately…

I love silent hill, but i will never play the series again after homecoming. It just turned into trash and is really departing from some of the mood/feel it had originally. Still the first 4 are classics and should be play by all gamers, not just those who are curious.

Any silent hill after 4 has the same effect as twisted metal 3 and 4 for twisted metal fans: They don’t exist.

What are you talking about? The newest Twisted Metal was awesome.

Also, Shattered Memories is actually a really good game, and Origins was pretty good as well. Downpour also definitely wasn’t the best, but it still wasn’t that bad either. The biggest problem I had with it were the technical issues it has on PS3 and the lack of diversity/creativity in terms of the monsters.

Most of the hate for post-4 games SH fans have comes from the fact that they are expecting something to come out that’s just as great as 2 and 3 were, and to put it simply that’s probably just not going to happen. Play 2 and 3 if you want to, that’s why they’re there. But as a franchise grows older it will attempt to change and evolve as well, and Silent Hill isn’t an exception to this. Silent Hill fans don’t like change, but at the same time the developers aren’t giving their fans what they really want as of recent. It seems like they’re trying to appeal to a fanbase that isn’t even there.

they go pretty hard on the movie
Did any1 see the movie? I have not yet.
There is a few things they say thats dumb. Like the bridge is suppose to go out when the town lours some1 in.

I haven’t seen it, but I really want to.

Silent Hill fans don’t like that the people in charge of the series don’t understand it. That’s been clear in every game since Origins. There are plot and character inconsistency in the games that try to tie into the past games, Stuff that meant to be ambitious is shown, subtly is gone and these bastards went as far as to try to change the script of the original games. Don’t fuck with shit that ain’t broke
