I built this team because I am the lowliest of scrubs, and needed 3 high damage low execution characters. I constantly get my ass kicked online even though I practice in training mode for hours at a time. I have huge problems finding openings but I’m sticking with this team until I have an aneurysm. Anyways, enough with my cry fest:
Wesker (Samurai Edge), Doom (Plasma Beam), Ryu (Tatsu). They all seem to have great normals, tools for just about any situation, and I feel like Ryu makes a fantastic anchor.
I’m looking for a GTFO assist for Doctor Strange and I’m not too fond of Akuma - what does Ryu’s Tatsu assist do different and what makes it considered worse than Akuma’s?
I use a team with Ryu and Spencer on it, and I noticed that Spencer’s slant grapple assist forces the opponent to stand even if they are set to crouching. I started using Ryu’s instant overhead C into LK tatsu on the taller characters. This works against computers set to crouch in the training mode, but something strange happens for actual players holding down back.
Somehow it makes the jump C hit, but the opponent is immediately able to crouch. So, if you hold down-back against Ryu, you will take the damage from the jump C, but you crouch and have enough time to block the LK tatsu. I really don’t understand what is going on because Ryu’s jump C does not hit any crouching opponents so I know he must be standing, but somehow the opponent is crouching when I try to do the tatsu. It makes no sense.
right now i play a hulk/ryu/sent or task. Drones helps hulk and ryu both maintain pressure and ryu’s tatsu is a great combo extender for hulk in the corner after L.gamma wave. hulk and sent is an excellent way to create space. with hulks H.gamma wave while calling drones in rapid succession can almost lock the screen down horizontaly.
long story short ryu and hulk work very well on a team together.
Since you already got the drones, you should consider Shoryuken as your assist.
I am pretty sure Hulk doesnt need assists to extend his combos at the corner.
Ryu’s a good middle character. Safe DHCs, can do a lot of damage with meter if he needs to, and doesn’t hog all the meter.
Strider on the end works well if you have a lot of meter or x-factor leftover.

Vergil can be pretty tricky to catch and Hadoken assist from Ryu could lead to some tricky mixups.

I started a thread about this the other day not knowing this one existed. I’ve been running Frank/Ryu/Wesker since launch but a guy I used to play with used my team against me and basically destroyed any semblance of confidence I had in my playing abilities. I like the way Wesker works (I’m competent with all three) but I tend to use them without assists given that I don’t know how to utilize them in matches properly. I’m mostly spamming L Tatsu to get in which seems to be somewhat effective depending on the situation.
I still think one of them needs to go. I like Frank and Wesker about equally though. I’ve been thinking Akuma as a replacement or possibly Dante, but I’ll have to get used to them both. Any other ideas?
Frank/Dante and Wesker/Akuma are great. Frank/Akuma is pretty good once you get to LV2 and Wesker/Dante is okay.
Skrull/Frank/Wesker would get you LV4 Frank if you DHC, but if Skrull dies all you have is Frank and Wesker left.
With a Wesker/Ryu(Hado)/Akuma team everyone has good assists. Get-off-me tatsu for the first 2 and the slow hadoken for Wesker mixups.
Have you considered Strange? I use Eye assist with Ryu sometimes and it works pretty well.
No. My thing is that I use characters that I really like. I’m not big on Doctor Strange. Same thing with Doom, Spencer, and other characters that seem to be relatively popular in the community.
