I guess if you’ve never played Ketsui you may like it. I had a Ketsui board prior to the release and the game felt totally different. It’s also missing a few core scoring aspects.
It’s also selling for something like $110+ which just isn’t worth it right now.
after playing so much donpachi I tried my hand at dodonpachi and got slaughtered. I actually made it through level 3 without continues. I dont quite understand, like, my hitbox is so small I can just fly right across a sea of bullets without dying. I double take going all “WHUHHH?” and then I get shot down. My whole ship is engulfed in bullets bu
how do you guys handle that? there is no way to predict where the random bullet clusters will go, but I see videos of people breezing through it. Im so confused!
Its like…its not that its possible, its that I did it at all. I dont know if it is skill or luck or whatever. I havent played DDP in a very long time, maybe a year, so there isnt that familiarity with it.
First off, I really recommend Ketsui DS. I think it’s a pretty amazing shooter and it will swallow you up for a good 10 hours as you unlock all kinds of shit in it. Definitely the best handheld shooter I ever played. Ketsui DS was also recently repressed and I see copies in Akihabara for around 6000 yen.
Re: Dodonpachi and danmaku shooters in general, think of each level as having certain pressure points, if you put your ship there, the bullets will track to that location and you can create a nice little window to glide through. In general you will want to do a lot of sweeping from left to right to avoid getting pinned down by the bullet clouds. This will require at some points going straight through a grip of bullets at some points, but that will ultimately be safer than sitting still.
I really really like Progear, even though I have never really been a fan of side scrolling shooters. Air Blade is fun, but I don’t quite understand what I am doing, one minute I am on the bottom of the screen and then I will randomly be on top and firing some giant attacks and then I am stuck on the bottom again.
I got Raiden IV now. I can see why people like the Fighters series so much. It is better. The poor graphics in Raiden IV look like they came from last generation but the game seems solid enough. Sometimes it’s hard to see the bullets. I wish I could rotate my 26inch screen vertically to make use of the screen rotation fuction. (Note to self, buy a monitor that can do this this black friday)
So I got some second-hand information today that says at least one of the upcoming JPN 360 shooters is region-free. Anyone know which one this is? I’m hoping it’s Futari, or at least one of the other Cave shmups.
Mushihime is going to be the first region-free one. Raiden Fighters Aces and Raiden IV were brought out to the US (and both were locked to US consoles as well). The rest are JP-only.
Rented Raiden IV this weekend to try it out for myself, and I’m actually having a really good time. The speed of the bullets in later levels is going to give me a heart attack, but overall I think I’m actually going to pick this one up.
In other news, shooting games own, and I’m distraught that I broke my PS2, because I want to finish up clearing the first loop of DOJ. Trying to get that taken care of.
Also, to apologize for the waste of a thread (thread was closed before I could reply):
UNREAL. Thanks. I searched “shooting games” in titles or something.
Good shit. DOJ is a tough one but if you put in the time you should be able to get there. Really stages 3 and 4 are the toughest in the game IMO. Stage 5 is just long and besides the beehive section, not too impossible.
Yup. I’m getting Darius Burst. It’s got my alpha and beta beams as well as new weapons. It’s a new freaking game period. Thanks Taito for giving a shit about your games and making them awesome!
Anyone pre-ordered Mushihimesama Futari LE or HRAP Mushihimesama Futari?
I don’t know what price Play-Asia will have for those two, but NCSX do $109.90 and $208.90 for those.
$73.90 for the Regular, $109.90 for the LE.
$36 difference for a 2-CD Soundtrack.
I don’t know if I want do that.
(Prices on NCSX.)
I’m loving the theme for the Darius Burst. ZUNTATAAAAAAA! Would like to play it on a bigger screen, but at least I’ll be able to play it rather than not because of a region block. Plus I’m used to playing G-Darius on the PSP anyway.
