This thread is for shmups, but Quake 3/Quake Live takes an extreme amount of skill. Also one of the only FPS where 1v1 is played competitively. Be warned though some people have been playing close to a decade so learning curve is steep.

So after like, a year or two of inactivity, I hooked my xbox back up to the internet, and after like, half an hour of updating, I was browsing for some exclusive shmups. What ones are recommended? Iāve heard Deathsmiles x2 is good, but 30 bucks for a digital Japanese game seems kind of steep.
Finally got the 1cc on Gokujo Parodius. This makes for my 1st 1cc of 2012 as well as my first Konami 1cc.

And Kromo isnāt the only person who passed on Deathsmiles II because itās $30, and Iām saying that as a purchaser of the Collectorās Edition of the first game. Totally rocking that faceplate too, by the wayā¦
I love the genre and really want the game, but I guess Iām just spoiled on $5 Steam games.

I like FPSs too Starhammer (Iām replaying Crysis 2 right now) but FPS are so popular that it would quickly overshadow shmups. Plus the language is so different.

Odd question: Any good shmups for people who are red/green colour blind? I mean, I can see the colours red and green, however I sometimes have trouble differenciating between yellow and green or dark red/brown. The yellow green one gets me most often in games (I thought puzzle fighter had only 3 colours for the longest time), and a lot of shmups tend to fill the screen with crap that may or may not kill you. I find its worst in games with a lot of āmedalionsā or ācoinsā that spew out of enemies when they die. I liked Ikaruga because of its black/white system.
Ok, I imported Dodonpachi Resurrection on the 360, and Iām confused.
Can someone explain to my why the fuck my combo meter is getting reduced while Iām shooting certain enemies?
Oh, and I suck at this game. Anything beyond novice at this point kicks my ass. There seem to be so many intricate rules that I havenāt picked up on. Does anyone have any pointers?
