The shooter games thread returns! The Empire Of Ammo says, EVERYBODY GETS SHOT!

Mars Matrix, CPS2 emulator only for arcade perfect goodness…

Somebody really need to get at me about that bsnes request… I can’t find the guy that had a compatible image(nigga was serious about his contra… he ripped the shit himself)…

I wish I could help. the ONLY good emu I had of SNES got eaten up when I accidentally poured water into one of my external drives. FML. Some MM does sound good right about now, but I’m still otherwise engaged with…CHILD OF EDEN!!! OMG. Between the music and the visuals, this game is like a music party on disk. I wish I had a bigger TV now. stretch that ish all the way across the living room and just go nuts. I’ll need to get the Audio situation in check as well. Still, I’m nowhere near unhappy about this purchase. If you liked REZ, you MUST OWN THIS!!!

I was at work. >_<

I have spent a lot of time getting shot in Gears 3 lately which has torn me away from…

This. (see what I did there y’all?) Yeah RSG is a monster. To me it really is the hardest shmup ever made. Because in a bullet hell game you don’t usually have to worry about the environment that much and your boss is usually at the top of the screen just spewing bullets out while you fire forward. RSG has you focusing on more than just bullets and it takes some real mental dexterity to survive the maelstrom of dangers being thrown your way. I hear that toning down the graphical upgrades helps. I will have to try that some time since I’ve burned out on Gears 3 a bit.

I keep feeling guilty about not playing CoD but it really wore my right arm out with all that pushing and tracking. Not to mention I guess with the way I have had to play Kinect games it was a lot more difficult (I’d stand to the side of the tv with the kinect facing me and that is not ideal). The new way I have my kinect set up I can play games that use my hands and arms only from my bed to mixed results but this could alleviate the strain I’m putting on my arms maybe since the sensor is right in front of the tv. More accurate movements and less stress? Maybe.

I started playing Outlands though. It’s Ikaruga inspiration is so neat but it feels like Metroid of course. This game isn’t a shmup but it’s worth mentioning because of the inspiration and the challenge of switching between colors on the fly so fast. There are definite moments of feeling bullet hellish but with the protection you get it’s not that crazy.

My feelings on shmups today

[details=Spoiler]I hope that RSG marks the end of this year’s shmup barrage. I think the community could use a break so we can focus on what we have (Eschatos, Child of Eden, Jamestown, Gatling Gears, and Strania Vower Side I’m looking at you five for myself after/during RSG) and get really good at it. When I played a ton of shmups back in during the PS1/PS2 era (including arcade emulations) I got to spend a lot of time on one game at a time so I could at least be competent enough to beat it with one or no continues used at all. Now I just have so much to play that it’s like what do I try and master first.

I feel the same about the fighting game scene too now. It’s great that we are getting what we want at such a constant clip but for people who love to try it all we end up with a mountain of games to play. It would be one thing if these games weren’t built around regular practice but they are. And if you have a 9-5/wife n kids/school/whatever the time it takes to both master and play everything dwindles.

No more new shmups till spring 2012 please.

PS. Fudge packers. I just remembered that I own every Cave release on my iPhone but since I have a 3G I can’t play them till the new iPhones come out. So I’ll be getting shot every fucking where I go. Man. One tear for pain and one tear for joy. The Empire of Ammo is Everywhere and Never Ceases. [/details]

^I hope you guys don’t see that as me complaining so much as I’m just venting about the pluses and minuses to having a lot of what you want at your finger tips.

Oh and that Panzer Dragoon inspired Kinect game due out next year sounds pretty wild. It’ll be just like the PD we know and love but with some rpg elements (leveling up your dragon and what not) but using Kinect (think child of eden plus the addition of bobbing and weaving and rolling the dragon as if though you were on the saddle). Sounds really cool and I can’t wait to see it in action. It’ll be an XBLA release too so no more than $15!

Mostly playing Judgement Silversword. Make too many mistakes trying to build multiplier with shield, but I’ve been slowly getting better.

Furry mentioning the new Panzer Dragoon reminds I’m still incredibly bitter its going to be a Kinect game. I really hope it has a controller option like Child of Eden.

Been playing the SHIT out of The Binding of Issac on PC. It’s like someone took Zelda, thought it was Robotron, and then added fetuses, lipstick, and piss all over it. It’ll probably offend someone, but I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

What the? You have GOT To hook me up!!! pics, links, whatever!!! This sounds like that sick shit that I will either love or leave. It’s nearing halloween, so the scales are tipped.

Aw yeah!!! and I JUST finished loading windows 7 on the other computer too. I might have to put Eden on hold for a little bit. It’s about to get UGLY in here!!!

speaking of steam, has anyone purchased the gundemonium collection?

im outi

Roberth

It’s on my wishlist, but I’m broke at the moment. I also own it already on PS3. It’s really fun. That said, I’m waiting for a Steam sale. >.>

I got it on PSN already so I won’t get it again, at least not yet. Still, Steam has more than enough to keep me satisfied. It is a good time to get shot.

Espgaluda II, Mushihime-Sama, Mushihime-Sama Futari, Ibara, and Death Smiles are running in the latest version of MAME. There’s slowdown when a lot of enemies and bullets are onscreen, but it’s not that bad, and of course, there’s no sound yet.

One more day until I play Cave’s classics on my iPhone.

Thank you, good sir!!! This weekend I will obtain these treasures and give them the respect they deserve.

-Starhammer-

Death Smiles seems to be the least affected by slowdown whereas Mushi Futari is the worst. The worst thing IMO is the lack of sound, but given this progress, it shouldn’t be long.

Thanks to Naslectronical’s post and some searching around for the needed goods, I’m getting some gametime with ESPgaluda. I can’t get deathsmiles or any of the mushihime series running. Since my favorite site for my arcade file needs has been crippled, I’ll have to search for hopefully the latest MAME. I’m on ver. 133. I hope there’s a later version which will help me to get shot by the whole collection. To all of the Empire, Happy Weekend!!

DoDonPachi is sex on the iPod touch. Playing one handed and dodging bullets makes me feel manly.

Just about to come in here and say something about that. Something about mauvering with such ease is amazing although because it’s auto-fire I don’t feel like I’m in total control. I’d like to see Cave support PS Vita when it comes out. Imagine doing what Star Soldier I think it was (the Hudson shmuup classic reborn on the PSP) did for it’s controls and you turned the PSP side ways but you use the back touch panel to control your ship and other buttons, maybe the touch screen to fire weapons.

It’s a thought.

But yeah I feel very fortunate to be playing Cave’s games on my phone. Props to them for making the choice.

Check your conversations for more info. Everything but Mushihimesama is running at 90-100%, but still no sound. But hey, if you have the OST, you can just play it in the background while you’re playing the game :sunglasses:
