The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

seems like you’ve been practicing that spin kick link to the point that it’s burned deep into your muscle memory, DJ. I don’t think dropping it is bad considering how well you do using it. If you were to perfect it i think it could make you retardedly good in matchups where the vortex is difficult to keep people in.

anyways, good shit man!

Thx for the advice…anybody got any tips on ibuki mirror’s? They are very weird for me

you seemed alright offensively, the only thing i could suggest would be more aa’s. otherwise, it was mostly defensive stuff; cross-ups and throws seemed to get you a lot. if you’re knocked down it’s understandable, but if they’re jumping in freely on you you’re missing a chance of getting an attack and giving them an opportunity at the same time.

hmm gotta check some of these out, working on my Ibuki

DevilJin why didn’t you go play Min and Art… I wanted to see what you’d bring to the table vs those two. :frowning: Gotta wait for summer jam now…

Goodshit Jibbo for not playing Ducktales instead! :3

The reason for that basically is I just got a new job and I have to be making some real money in it first before I can start taking off to regional events like I used to. Otherwise I would have been there cuz Renegade definitely PM’d me and let me know about it. I didn’t even know Min and Art were gonna be there cuz that’s pretty gdlk. Not that it would have made it any easier for me to go. I’ll definitely see you at Summer Jam.

Word! I had to pay rent so I hear the real life side of things… :\ I just want to see some Ibuki voltrons assembled at the next few tourneys. We all know so much but I feel like were all missing what the other does.

DJ see you @ Summerjam homie, hope to get some casuals with you. Momochi being at Season’s Beatings in October is going to be interesting. Btw we need more vids up in there .

Yeah hopefully I’ll be able to make it. If not I’ll definitely be at Seasons Beatings.

Moar vids for those that missed the stream.

i only got a chance to watch the match against HAV, how come you chose to do spin kicks instead of neckbreaker everytime you landed a poke string?

Well ibuki has better options after the tsumuji knockdown like fake crossups

Eh…it’s just generally safer to do. If u mess up the timing on s.MK to MK tsumuji or target combo to MK tsumuji you’re at least even on block and can’t get punished. HP neck break does a little bit more stun but in the end u can get a similar untech knockdown and mix up factor by comboing into MK tsumuji that is generally safer. I only really use neck breaker at the end of a combo if I really want a super jump kunai vortex to mix things up or am really trying to stun the opponent.

^^^ pretty much… imho its because its a bit too hard to do a tsumuji ender on block, and a neckbreaker ender on hit… just doing a tsumuji is the way to go in situations where you have to hitconfirm imho… although i’m working on being able to do both off of a hitconfirm… right now i only use neckbreaker in punish combos/guaranteed hit situations… it takes too much mental focus for me, as of right now to concentrate on 2 different enders…

yeah her offense game is really versital versus most characters, finally found a way for me to stop grapplers just having problems with Blanka but her neckbreaker and ex-neckbreaker are definately really good gainst fireball throwers

Well neckbreaker is a double edged sword, it’s almost like shoryuken in that respect. Sometimes it’ll get you out of jail, sometimes it’ll get you punished hard. I thought I’d landed a bog standard cr.lp > cr.lp > st.lp > st.mk xx neckbreaker BnB the other day and managed to get Fei Long Flame Kicked out of it… figure I must have screwed up somewhere (would HP.Neckbreaker leave me vulnerable frame wise?). But I tend to avoid it now in favour of tsumuji which is safe on block, does decent chip damage over the course of a match and leaves you well spaced to throw out the occasional mk. penguin kick if your opponent is hesitant/block happy or sometimes entice a panic random DP or jump-in. It’s a win win situation really, there’s very few characters who can feasibly look to punish you after blocking tsumuji.

@DJ: Saw your first three matches on the last Xan stream, your ‘Buki is lookin’ gooooood man. Keep up the good work.

nice ibuki v dictator match both players have over 5000 pp and are jap… so… yeah. i like the ibuki players take on the matchup… lots of educational stuff in here, but the vid quality on my iphone is …

o well.

^ Good play. I noticed he just played it safe instead of going for crazy mixups (bar 3:20) and didn’t throw out too many pokes.

yeah, pretty much he just turtled and looked for AA’s and dash in opportunities… i dont think he was really scared of scissor kick pressure… maybe his thinking is that those kicks dont do much on block… and you know what that bison didnt try to throw from his blockstrings much either… either way it looked like both players were pretty familiar with each others playstyle… this wasnt the first time they had played… and to that end the bison seemed to have alot of respect in general for the ibuki player, by not trying to constantly rush down…

the bison is in top 25 for highest pp with 5600… the ibuki is in top 200 with 5030… that was a very good match to watch… its kinda rare to see such high level jap players battle it out when its not in some tournament.

also since its jap, it really shows how the match actually plays since they basically have no lag out there.

anywho ima upload an ibuki mirror between acqua and owata something or other in a sec… its hella random though, but both players are really good, imho.

I really liked how he used the focus dash as an evasion tool. I noticed Momochi using that as well to get away from cross ups instead of just sitting there trying to block them the right way. Using focus backdash to get away from the 2nd hit of scissors was pretty smart. I’ve also been using focus forward dash as a way to bait Dictators that like to spam s.MK or s.HK. If you know they are going to throw one and your focus absorbs it u can dash in and get a free throw which leads to free wake up shenanigans. Even if u don’t absorb anything if he whiffs a s.HK u still get enough time to dash in and throw if you’re close enough. Ibuki’s forward dash is good as shit for closing the gap, getting in on abused non cancellable footsies (especially with a focus beforehand) and evading jump ins.

Quickkk, there’s a really good replay on XBL of an A rank ibuki against a B rank Ryu. really good play, he footsies with ryu’s cr.mk and does it well.:china:

Also, that ibuki mirror was tighttttttttttttt.
