The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

^ Yep that is no problem for him.

A small note to everyone, with Abel you have to punish his roll or else your vortex is worthless. His Roll is a good move for escaping everything except a grab.

How do you propose we do that? Any option selects in mind?

i agree with the first part of the pot… i didnt bother to say anything because it seems really obvious to me… although i think he could have just used raida to send him int the corner… but that wont maximize damage.

but why does abels game become shit once hes knocked down in the corner? im not getting that… i just like to force people into the corner so that my own gameplan becomes more flexible plus it means that IM NOT CORNERED… cause i hate being cornered with ibuki even though she has a couple decent ways out.

-dime

If he wanted to send him to the corner with EX tsumuji he could have the same with EX raida, and get more damage + untechable knockdown.

Not 100% sure if this is a good way to keep yourself out of the corner. One unfortunate throw and then you’ve got your own back in the corner.

If you toss your opponent in the corner, there must be a reason for it like trying to zone them or poke them to death or something. But Ibuki can’t zone that well and doesn’t have good footsies so… I dunno.

more stun as well, BUT!!!

less safe on block.

this was online and iirc he was using the 1 frame link? i will watch again.

-dime

That is actually a question I am trying to answer myself. You might be able to U1 OS off of a jump in, but that is hard as hell to do consistently. Also with his U2 that could be dangerous.

A stupidly simple one is to OS the grab itself off of a jump in. Though the spacing required is almost too obvious.

nope he wasnt using the 1 framer, my take is that like dj said he wanted to maximize his damage… i dont think pushing abel into the corner was that big of a thought for him as i was watching the vid, more like a fringe benefit… also blocking was a big reason as to why as well. most of the time that ibuki hit 1 jab and then did st.mk which is hard to hitconfirm… so if you want max damage whie also being safe on block, from a non hitconfirm… ex tsumuji is the way to go.

what i founfd astounding is that he didnt do a crossup version of the kunai even once, yet abel STILL managed to eat them all… lol.

-edit o really?.. well no ones perfect… even more reason to use the ex tsumuji then… he may have just been going for safe high stun… he did stun the abel once…

-dime

The stun is the same.

Sure he could combo into something else like ex raida but against Abel the difference is negligible imo. Abel is free on wake up as it is so whether you combo into ex raida or ex tsumuji youre getting solid okizeme on him any way and pushing him into the corner. Besides he won the match so i dont see much other reason to criticize his bnb strats.

As far as the whole corner thing…if ur not confident enough to pressure your opponent in the corner safely then you’re missing out on a lot of free damage. Especially with a character like Ibuki that has 3 frame s.lps with a large hit box. Which can become Abel’s worst nightmare once he gets pushed into a corner. Abel hates anyone that can just mash rapid fire comboable shit at him once he reaches the corner. Outside of sitting and blocking there isnt a whole lot else he can do. Especially if you are mixing in throws and overheads.

Ibuki’s footsies are better than people make them out to be. Theyre not as good as they were in 3s but they are certainly not bad either. S.mp beats out a ton of shit especially from max range. Ive been learning to use that a lot more during footsies and using it to hit confirm bnbs at closer ranges. Ibuki definitely also has a ton of ways to zone. Zoning is probably Ibuki’s strongest aspect next to vortexing. She just doesnt have an abosolute dominating ground game that other high tiers like Dic or Chun possess.

A video from me

me vs ken who is apparently n1 ken on psn(not that it holds any value but he is one of the better kens i faced so far online)
i admit i was pretty nervous and did some stupid things :),like way to many throw option selecting,…
He also did some interesting mixups i am not just used to

You posted a win… post a loss next time for better advice. We want to see an opponent that capitalizes your mistakes and exemplifies them, not one that falls for your same tricks over and over again.

 1. You need to stop jumping. Neutral jumping and back jumping is fine, assuming you’re kunai zoning. But forward jumping is NEVER EVER a good idea against a SHOTO. Fortunate this Ken does not know how to anti air.
 2. Speaking of antiairs, your antiair ability is horrendous. Ken jumps like 100 times per round and only gets punished once or twice. And even when he is punished, you only use b+MP? Cancel that shit into command dash and follow up for big damage. Your opponent needs to learn to stop jumping straight at Ibuki.
 3. Your spacing is also, horrendous. Every time Ken does a block string (usually mash jab until you’re pushed too far) he resets with j.MK into more jab spam. This is a reset you need to realize and react to. Dash/walk/slide/commanddash out of the damn away and punish him when he lands. He does it like 10 times a round and I was seriously cringing. Blocking is good, but it’s not good when you let your opponent get away with very obvious resets.
 4. You could have vortexed Ken numerous times. You could have pressured him numerous times. What were you afraid of? He clearly was not a flowchart dp happy Ken, so nothing to bait here. And even if he was, you should learn how to pressure while still staying safe (eg: chain combos, 100% safe, airtight block strings, etc.). Too many times I see Ken get up for free. You’re Ibuki. You’re supposed to be rushing his ass down.
 5. A couple too many mashed EX kazegiris. Ok for now, but bear in mind good players will know how to punish that shit if blocked. In this case, Ken can dp or U1.
 6. Didn’t see much footsies game, though you probably wouldn’t have been able to play it that way anyways because Ken was jumping in all day and you weren’t stopping him at all.

1)yeah i agree here, only on knockdown sometimes there should be a crossover/ambi jump
2)hm i tought only cancels in command dash when you get a 1 hit only juggle, which i did not see in this vid
how do you do it then?
3)what good pokes does ibuki have, s mk/cr mk s mp but the best is probably s lp?
For rest thanks for the advice, ill keep it in mind

Do you have any video’s from yourself playing ibuki?

Here’s my crappy ibuki. I’m noticing I’m dropping a lot of combos and for some reason dping a lot. Also I don’t know the vega match up at all.

 1. You can cancel the first hit of the 2 hit juggle, which you landed a few times.
 2. st.MK, cr.MP, cr.MK, cr.HK. Sometimes for stuffing your opponent’s (aggressive) pokes, you can use st.LP and st.MP. In this matchup though, st.MK is almost useless. cr.MP follows behind it, but is a bit better due to its longer active frames. But really, in the poking game against Ken, I’d worry about 3 things coming from him:
 3. f+MK
 4. cr.MK
 5. hado

Most of the time he’s going to use f+MK to close the gap. You’ll want to stuff this every chance you get if he gets too predictable with it. If he manages to hit you with it, even blocked, it’s going to be a solid frame advantage for him, and he’ll get a chance to set up his cr.MK, frame traps, and kara throw mind games. You definitely do not want that to happen.

I have some videos of myself but tbh I don’t think they’re worth watching. But if you must, you can just check my youtube link in my sig. I have one game against a scrub Ryu and another game a month old, Ibuki mirror. I’m pretty sure I’m at least twice as good since then though.

Thanks for the feedback  Back to the training room for me. I’ll post a losing replay next time.

I see,now i understand what you mean, thanks for the advice.
So what is the biggest possible punish after b+mp juggle
hk shoryuken?
cl hk sjc kunais or another hk

hope this video might help you for the b+mp juggles

much appreciated, thats everything i needed to know

Excellent video xxteefxx. I’ve been trying to work out a lot of options from anti air as well and this video has some stuff I haven’t even thought of

I only saw the first set.

 1. Your okizeme game is crap. Half the time Claw gets to wake up for free. This should not be the case when you’re playing as Ibuki.
 2. Your vortex is crap. It doesn’t seem like you know how to time the kunai correctly. Sometimes it’s meaty, and often times the kunai hits the floor before your opponent gets up… go back to training mode and grind the timing.
 3. Poor knowledge of combos. First round you manage to cross Claw up with j.LK, but you follow up with st.MK? Do you not know your combos? Read the Ibuki combo thread. Go into training mode and memorize all of her target combos. It looked more like you were just pressing random buttons.
 4. Too many random dps, too many random neckbreakers. Stop doing random horribly unsafe stuff.
 5. Poor pressure game. Second round you manage to get in on Claw with j.LK noncrossup. And here is what you did: cr.LP cr.LP whiffed-st.LK lk.tsumuji. Not scary at all and at the end, Claw is pushed back to safety. Again go into training mode and learn your damn combos. Learn how to mix low attacks (cr.LK, cr.MK) with your overhead (f+MK). Most importantly, learn how to combo off her overhead. Once you’ve done that, set the dummy to random block and practice your pressure game. If the dummy is blocking, stay on him. Mix in resets and tick throw setups and frame traps. Every time you catch the dummy not blocking, turn it into a knockdown. Think of it like using that chinese wooden dummy for Wing Chun training.
 6. Learn how to buffer attacks. cr.MP is Ibuki’s best poke, but it’s not if you don’t use its cancellability. Buffer tsumuji EVERY time you do cr.MP. If it hits, tsumuji should come out for chip damage or knockdown. Both are good.
 7. Third round, Claw gets to FBA all over you because you have no idea how to punish. Learn to FA or dash out of the way, and then punish. Also not sure why you did a random lk.tsumuji when he was FBAing. Stop doing retarded random stuff.
 8. Poor punishing. Middle of round 3, Claw does a random ultra. You block. But then you punish with st.LP? The fuck? You need to shove Ibuki’s foot up your opponent’s ass for punishment, followed breaking his neck, followed by shoving kunais up his ass when he gets up. What you did right there was less damaging then a slap on the wrist.

tl,dr: Your Ibuki needs a ton of work. Get practicing.
