The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

KitasenjuDJ is Strongest Deejey in Japan
Ebihara is strongest Ibuki in Japan

Greetings yet again Fellow Shinobi, My training has been going well. I just have to keep practicing and playing. It’s funny how every time i am in the lab, i want to test out things on an actual opponent, but when i fight an opponent, I am reminded of how much i should be training haha

Anyway, I’ve decided to record a few of my sessions and i encourage all of you to critique as usual and give me pointers. I know i have a lot of bad habits i have to drop and a load of things i have to work on but i welcome all of it because that’s how it is when you are a beginner.

This was an endless session i had with a few random players. lots of mistakes and bad habits on my part but this is why i record and watch my videos so i can learn from them.

Lastly, I fought a very strong Akuma player. We had about 20 games and i didn’t manage to win one. It was very fun but hard at the same time. Feel free to share some match-up knowledge on this one. alot of my matches i lose majority because of the lack of Match up experience. That and I still have much yet to learn about USF4.

Against DeeJay you can’t really use kunai vortex because of the upkicks (ex) beating it every time, so just focus on safejumps with neckbreaker OS. I’m not really sure if you can still safely meaty low profile them anymore; it was a thing in AE, I remember some changes about that in Ultra.
Against Akuma you were too defensive (with just holding block) letting him to use all these demon flip shenanigans. You didn’t try much to play a footsie/ground game, you have to start using sweep/c.MK to couterpoke/whiffpunish him (hell, you have to start using sweep in general :P). There were several cases when you did not capitalise a confirm into hard knd, which is I think most important thing in this matchup (I always found Akuma quite easy and reliable to vortex, even in Ultra). You have to condition yourself to use EX neckbreaker to punish his fireballs, especially red ones shouldn’t be a problem. If he tries to just fly around with Demon flips in blockstrings, you have to outmaneuver him with forward or command dashes to get under him and punish; excessive backdashing; jumping away with hp kunai to frustrate him even more; ex neckbreaker when he’s using air fireballs on the peak of the jump to go under and catch him on his landing frames. Just don’t stay in one place and block because that’s exactly what your opponent wanted. MK command dash is somewhat reliable option on his demon flip kick oki (goes under).
And remember that if you try to do Target combo 4, but are too far away and get 2hit TC5, you can try to link s.MK, because it’s +5 on hit.

At least he didn’t use the unblockables

Aah i see, i was wondering why i was getting beat out. good to know. ah that sucks, i always laughed when he gets low profiled haha.

Yes!! this is what i forgot most about. what throws me off about netplay is there are alot of opponents that i dont have to play the whole whiff punish/counter poke game so mistakenly i kinda got use to netplaying being this way…but i ran into the Akuma player which was serious luck on my part as i rarely fight good players.

I realized after watching my matches i need to be more confident in my ranges and actually use the tools ibuki has cr.mk and her sweep is also good. I was foolishly relying on cr.mp when that is a pretty slow normal to begin with. I was terrified of Akumas walk speed. Its nuts how fast he can walk in and out of ranges.

Another thing i was focused a little too much on was Focusing his sweep but it didnt go quite well. As any player with a brain would notice and definitely change it up but when he changed it up, I should have observed him closely and look at what has changed about my Opponent.

I always found it hard to kunai Akuma or other teleport chars on wakeup, am i not meatying it enough? or flat out doing it wrong.

THIS is definitely something i have to start doing, i have to be a bit more confident in my reactions

definitely, putting this in my notes. i also need to watch ibuki play this MU correctly.

Oh nice, ill give it a try in the lab today

RIGHT?! Im still unsure if i ever experienced an unblockable in this game but i heard a crapload of chars having em in AE.

Thanks so much for the reply and all the tips @QjonPL i appreciate it so much and best believe im going to work on alot of things.

am I the only one that uses this ultra 1 set up?
I thought this up on my own. so idk if anyone else has ever done this.
usually i’ll do a throw, hk command dash, lp air flip to cross over, ultra 1 upon landing.
I cant tell you how often this works on people.
my other go to set up is intentional whiffed hk jump kicks into ultra 1.
as seen in this vid I already posted here.

lmfao oh lord.

Genius setup YOOOOOO!!! DAAAAAAMN

so…its not a good set up then? what would be a good set up for Ultra 1 then?
I’m serious, I’d like to know. some U1 set up vids would be nice. to educate me and all.

I know I could stick a kunai in there in my lp flip but…meh, not really necessary imo.

well u1 “setups” lose to downback and probably most invincible reversals so yeah…

Thing is, you can jump after superflash of U1, so it only works if the opponent presses a button. In your first videos we can see that your opponent doesn’t press anything, he just doesn’t know he could jump out of it, lol. Zangief uses lariat on wakeup, which is non throw invincible, so there’s that.

I havent recorded the ultra1 setups but i know a few good ones that get most people, but before you begin the setup you must know what your opponent does. just like QjonPL says your opponent must be to scared or unaware that he can jump out of ultra1, what i do and what works most of the time is :
setup1: i somewhat overuse the overhead (f,MK) and see how my opponent reacts to it some people will mash some people will block and some will jump/back dash. if you know your opponent is going to press buttons or block after the overhead on block or hit doesnt matter you can do the ulra1 after the overhead you have to delay the ultra a little.

setup2: test your opponent with HK command dash do it on hit or on block on 1hit confirm of BNB combos just look what he is going to do when you do that. if he jumps you wont be able to do this setup for ultra1 on that opponent (nobody jumps after seeing the HK command dash). If your opponent blocks or press buttons to try to punish that command dash you can do the ultra1 after the command dash. this setup is very useful online because people dont see it coming and it very fast to be able to punish the HK command dash you have to react very fast and on online it isnt possible to react to the dashes if people punish the command dash only its cuz of 2 reasons 1 they mash buttons 2 they have a good read on you and know how to punish.

i use the second a lot its almost free online it really is no1 has ever got out of setup 2 but keep in mind setup 1 is also good but if your opponent know you can do the ultra after the overhead it wont work on then anymore. for the rest i use ultra 1 to punish people or if i got a soft knockdown and know they wont back dash or jump i do the ultra1 on there wake ups, for example EX DP on hit normal dash then ultra on theyre wake up. I hope i wont get my own setups against me like i had yesterday an ibuki player literately copied my moves and beat me with them in an mirror match. XD good for him that i could improve his ibuki but it hurt to lose to your self.

Guys no… seriously no

U1 is just for punishing, if you want to do some gimmicks (NOT SETUPS) 100% sure the opponent is going to press something, then go for it and pray that he pressed some shit or prepare for a big ass punish. I mean even I do that kind of stuff from time to time, specially with a well spaced slide into U1, as people want to punish that shit always.

Some Pugera vids I recorded from NCR. So sorry that I only recorded 2 matches. My battery drained fast frown emoticon I should get myself a portable charger next time I go to a major.

And what his button presses look like if anyone’s interested :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s also 30 mins of Pugera vs 801 Strider

Playing with Strider was such a blast. I got to play him in a best of 3 once. I almost beat him last game last round. Wish I can play him more but I wanna play with other people I haven’t play lol.
I also played Pugera once in a mirror. I only took a round.

Does Pugera select plink or is he double tapping?

He select plinks based on M00n Tiger’s Pugera handcam video. The funny thing is that he does the same exact technique in the arcade as well by hitting jab with his thumb and the start button with his pinky. I’ve been told Ebihara does the same thing.

HORI stick has a little switch that let you switch your back button to start button and vice versa. That’s why it looked like he plinked with start button. No wiring changes required!

I thought that it didn’t matter if u b-linked with start or select. Since there is only a start button on the JP cabinets, and it still works to b-link like that. I could be wrong though!

edit: Ah, nevermind obviously you can’t use the start button on console to b-link. my bad lol
