The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

You kind of have to play lame and boring against a good gief

Oh I know I do. There’s no other smart alternative. But GOD it’s boring as shit.

Welcome to Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition.

This NEW Shimauta guy is really good. Solid, can be fancy when needed, I really like his Ibuki.

BTW I find the Gief matchup interesting (unless he has U2 charged lol), it forces you to be patient and watch every of your opponent’s moves. Changes a bit from the common Ibuki matchup handling =)

Ibuki managed to backdash Gief’s U2 setup. Perhaps it’s not as useful as most Giefs might think?

Oh don’t get me wrong. I can fight lame with the best of them but only with fireball characters. I’m happy to take the round the whole 99 seconds as long as I can throw fireballs.

I do like this Shimauta guy. He has a very old-school and methodical approach to this matchup.

I think I played a pretty good match against SnakeEyez once at WNF. I’d have to find the archive though. When I went in I lost lol I almost won but I tried to punish a wiffed spd with sweep and I missed :frowning: SnakeEyez is so good though. His footsies are amazing.

Even in HDR/ST his footsies and reactions have always been amazing. It’s his strongest quality, and it’s what has let him become so good in a very short amount of time in a variety of games.

You’re not going to like this!
A couple of matches of me on Ranked AE PC with a Keyboard have showed up:

I got very lucky.

Some Fasoll action from Dreamhack Valencia!

Vs Mikenumber9 (don’t know this guy… Balthier probably know him since he’s Spanish? )

Vs JHeuty (also known as Fuma Sensei, you know, from this crazy trio VRyu Sensei - Alioune Sensei - Fuma Sensei):

Vs Andreas (warning: shitty matchup incoming)

And vs Luffy!

My personal opinion on Fasoll’s Ibuki:

  • Disclaimer: I heard a lot of things about this guy, but I’ve seen very few videos starring his Ibuki, so let’s say that my expectation level was pretty high
  • Disclaimer 2: this is my PERSONAL OPINION so in no way it’s supposed to be the absolute truth
  • About matchups: judging from these matches, it seems like Fasoll really knows his matchups. Kudos to his match agains Rufus, we all know how difficult this match is and I think he really played this matchup exactly the way it should be (very careful about spacing, anti air j.LK - though I’m sure he wanted to do air throw lol - overall guesses…)
  • He has REALLY GOOD reactions and mind game. Looks like he guesses right almost everytime!
  • He looked very nervous, especially against Luffy and Andreas (cf multiple st.MK with nothing after, missed setups/followups…)
  • He’s maybe too ā€œgimmickyā€. For example, st.MK xx Command dash will almost never work against real good players, and he used it an awful lot of times.

GReat player overall, maybe needs more tournament experience to be ā€œbetter than F-Wordā€ imho, he’s still too nervous

He’s better than F-Word in terms of knowledge, even F-Word said this (although most of us in the forums are). F-Word actually said he asked Fassoll for help with beating me because ā€œhe [was] much better than both of us in the mirror matchā€. I have only played Fassoll once online.

Fassoll, along with Iyo and Sako, have basically come up with all original set-ups with Ibuki first. I really like his new knockdown -> whiff b+MK -> far.st.LP counter-hit set-up. He can choose to delay the b+MK a little and cancel it into a overhead, and he’s too far to be reached with a DP FADC so he doesn’t need to backdash to bait an uppercut for a full punish. Genius.

Anyway Mikenumber9 is a great Rose player (and Gouken). I used to play him a lot on XBL since the beginning (so when I was really bad). I think he’s not as good as uh, what was that guy called again? The American Rose that’s on these boards that beat Gootecks in a mirror. They’re similar though.

P.S. I forgot to mention, I think Fassoll is a much better player.
Tournament performance != player skill.

Why? It’s great, every Ibuki does this. Sako abuses it for example…

Looks like RedCaliburn made it into the last Funny and Cool moments video of the year- www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgAmnjidP4o&feature=player_detailpage#t=103s albeit the focus was what her opponent was doing.

That’s twice, haha.

Oh god, not again…

I swear, everytime I see that clip it makes me wonder why I was so stupid to not adapt to my cousin and decide to be all herpy derpy.

Ibuki: throw kunai
zangief: NOPE
Ibuki: ā€œļ¼ˆć€€ļ¾Ÿ Š”ļ¾Ÿļ¼‰oh shit, it didn’t work- lets do it again anyway, derp.ā€ throw kunai
zangief: NOPE + trollface "Problem?"
Ibuki: ā€œā€¦f*ck. >: (ā€

I guess it also created the ā€˜zangief rape (face) walk’ and whatnot lol.

That clip is so much fun haha, it needs to have dynamic music.
I miss playing with Res =(

Izuna, I got the agemen combo locked down. I’m confident to do it in real matches, just thought I should share my progress.

Cool! =)

There are three follow-ups that are popular:
[LIST=1]
[*]After HK Kazegiri, hold up forward and do j.LK (or j.LK xx j.MK) <- not super-jump

Spoiler

This only works if your opponent quick-rises. It’s fairly ambiguous and is a hit-box safe-jump (so it will be safe to Reversal DPs)

[*]After HK Kazegiri, HK Kasumi Gake and do a meaty st.MP (follow-up with either st.MK, st.LP, or kara-throw)

[details=Spoiler]This only works if your opponent quick-rises (again). It’s great on opponents who don’t have DPs (Claw) because they can’t do anything against it. Alternatively you can change HK Kasumi Gake for MK Kasumi Gake so you stay on the same side,
Or as a special set-up, do LK Kasumi Gake and then do b+MK xx f+MK[/details]
[*]IF you do HK Kasumi Gake and your opponent doesn’t quick-rise, do a low Kunai Vortex

Spoiler

This requires a lot of practice, but it’s definitely worthwhile. This is basically the same set-up as above but instead of pressing st.MP, you see that your opponent is still on the ground and you walk back a little. This sets up a safe Kunai Vortex that’s (I think) about +4 on block. So in other words you should follow this Vortex up with either TC4 or Ibuki’s BnB to be safe. This will make your opponent want to quick-rise after the Kazegiri if you get the timing down.

1/ I usually judge a player’s real level in tournaments, or mostly in offline sessions (and, what is better as an offline session than a tournament or a FT5 money match?). Fact is, I’ve never seen Fasoll playing offline except at Dreamhack valencia, so I can’t really say anything. You can’t just react normally in online play, so just judging an actual skill level out of online games only is not a good idea imho
2/ Using st.MK xx command dash is useful when you do it once in a while, but is extremely unsafe against a player who can react to it. A command dash against Dieminion = flash kick in my face, as an example  I just personnally think that Fasoll is maybe using it a bit too much for it to be efficient

Is Fuudo better than Umehara? Is Jozhear better than Ryan Hart?

Tournament results depend on a lot of variables – such as pools.
Sako, Haitani, and Uryo came on top in a series of FT5’s against Umehara, but when they play outside of a tournament Umehara wins over a 2:1 ratio.

Fassoll innovates and knows a mountain more about Ibuki, and performs better against international players. He may be more likely to lose against a UK player if he doesn’t know them as much as F-Word, but F-Word is more likely to lose to a Spanish player than Fassoll. Isn’t Fassoll the same person as Farasol Umehara? As in the guy who does well against Alioune whereas F-Word loses something like 2-20?

I would prefer to say X > Y if X has more knowledge and innovation than Y. Besides, F-Word learns from Fassoll anyway.

I would also say that about a year ago, Iyo was better than Sako (not anymore) despite the fact that he didn’t know more just because Iyo did much better back then, and that’s outside of tournaments.

At least if you must, say F-Word is a better performer in tournaments or under pressure, but Fassoll is the better Ibuki player.

Dieminion would either have to double-tap a Flash Kick in between your string, or know what you’re doing. He can’t react and then press the button otherwise you’d have time to block.

If you watch Sako vs. Makoto he uses it all the time because on players who don’t mash crouch-tech or reversal it’s just as good as Dudley’s dash. He even uses it a lot in a series of matches against Rufus.

Anyway without using Sako as an example every time I want to compliment my points, doing st.MK xx LK CD is just as unsafe as doing st.MK xx MK Tsumuji when it comes to Flash Kicks.

Oh hey M00n Tiger, please use LK CD not HK CD when you anti-air (unless you want to change sides like near a corner).
