The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

Hey guys RhysnotReese here not sure who knows me, but I made a video today of some of the more uncommon Ibuki ultra punishes. Hope you guys enjoy! any tips feel free to hit me up @rhysnotreese on twitter

Nice video. The most practical one would be Honda’s headbutt punishes, and its the main reason why I use U2 in that matchup. A lot of these punishes are difficult to do on reaction, unless the opposing player is HEAVILY telegraphing their attack patterns. i.e. Ken’s step kick, or Ryu’s EX tatsu use in the corner.

The crouching Hard Kick Ibuki can punish is actually buffed in 2012. Against Akuma Ibuki can now punish it max range. Try to do Yoroitoshi against Ken’s Step Kick is a BAD idea, because he can space it so that the grab won’t connect.

For Honda you can also punish Butt Stomps with Yoroitoshi. Depeding on what type of Honda you’re playing you should switch it up. I didn’t know about Oni’s f+HP being punishable by Hashinsho, but I thought that move was an anti-air or Super starter only.

Thanks for the feedback! I will take all info to make a better video next time.

True, but Honda’s butt stomp isn’t that frightening of a tool. If he improperly spaces it, you can punish it with a st.jab, or a focus attack. For me, i’d much rather shut down his headbutt option. But I guess maybe I haven’t met a high-level Honda that abuses butt slams that much.

My Personal Critique
for the first match only

[details=Spoiler]
Ibuki vs. Adon
When watching him play other opponents I decided to neutral a lot because he used Jaguar Kicks to zone in on his previous opponents. The first round was simply him testing my Set-Ups and messing up his DP right before getting stunned.
[1:03] – I went for an unnecessary Focus Attack Level 3, which he actually recovered from. I should have just used j.Fierce instead to punish him.
[1:20] – By this point the Adon player realised that I was trying to space myself to punish his Jaguar Tooth with a neutral jump, so I decided to close in the distance. He did exactly as I thought he would but because he was airborne he did the jumping Jaguar Kick so my punish didn’t work.
[1:23] – I tried to frame-trap with st.Forward but I had an execution error so an empty Tsumuji came out instead. I would have gotten the counter-hit if I didn’t mess up my execution.
[1:27] – After I did a sj.Forward I went to go for far.st.Jab but I was too close so I got cl.st.Jab instead. The button I pressed after was st.Forward so I got nothing. Luckily I managed to get the knockdown I wanted.
[1:45] – This series of attacks is interesting. I went for the overhead as a reset and reacted to him blocking. It takes me two attacks to hit-confirm so after I pressed the cr.Jab I decided on tick-throwing. But what actually happened was that Adon blocked the overhead, got hit by the cr.Jab, but I still went for a throw which got DPed.

At the end I thought that after the EX Kazegiri I would be dead if he didn’t drop a combo so I mashed another. It would be pointless for him to bait me unless he wanted to risk making me use up my meter before beating me.[/details]
Please critique me! – (apart from using Neckbreaker to punish the Upball with Blanka…)

My videos against F-Word should be up by next week or the next.

P.S. pause the screen at 6:57 - this is why T.Hawk sucks

I noticed that in almost every of these match you go in with sjump.mk or jump.mk. Those opponents didn´t punish any of your jumps but a good player would never allow you to approach in that way (or at least no so many times).
Those are my two cents, I can´t say too much, you actually raped them. Your execution is too godlike and they didn´t have a clue about the ibuki match up…after a knockdown they were already done.

Do not comprehend. So why does he suck?

Good to see you doing Tsumuji loops on T.Hawk even though you get less damage/stun than Ibuki’s other bnb combos.

He was mashing SPD when I dropped my link, but the start-up was bad (because he was mashing MP/HP SPD I think) so he got hit during its start-up. Not T.Hawk specifically, but this T.Hawk player should have done EX or Ultra, or hell, LP SPD.

HAHA!! I knew you were going to comment on that! When I did it I was actually think “Mingo wouldn’t like that”.

Why would the startup be bad? And why would LP spd be any better than MP or HP spd? They all have 2f startup, and the difference between LP and HP range is only 0.1. He was still plenty close enough to grab you no matter which one he did anyways.

Eh?! I thought it had a longer start-up. I guess then that this uh… Frame-trap works against non-EX SPD?

Frame traps work but they have to be very very tight. >2 frames and you’ll get spd-ed because command grab > normals.

Isn’t this the same/similar video from the last page?

I tried watching that earlier; couldn’t quite make it past game 2 of the Ibuki mirror match…

Just a bunch of autopilot going on, jumps never being antiaired, Izuna spamming the unblockable like no tomorrow, etc.

Watch the second to last Ibuki match.

I saw the second to last Ibuki mirror match and still didn’t really see anything of value.

FWord autopilotted Focus on wake-up the whole set, but I didn’t punish it until I needed to and did an empty jump to EX Neckbreaker. F-Word then stopped trying to Focus in the final game and got unblockabled.

Also when he mashes, he NEVER FADCs

So the point of the video was to showcase how stupid the Ibuki mirror match is?
