@0:33 LMAO

in soviet russia no1 gives a fuck about kunais. poor red caliburn

On Xbox LIVE, NONE of your games are private. Endless lobbies show up in the Replay Channel too.

Mecha Zangief is specifically designed to punch all of Ibuki’s kunais. Protector of Russian skies will not allow such nonsense to go unpunished.

But seriously, that’s an awful strategy against Zangief. Giving up your corner is RARELY a good strategy.

Except Blanka v. Guile in ST (as guile), that shit is cash, otherwise, don’t do it.

Jump back Kunai is basically saying: “Hey, wanna win?” - you wanna walk ZANGIEF into the corner. Using cr.Roundhouse/TC10, Roundhouse Hien, far.st.Roundhouse, st.Strong, and far.st.Jab as your main tools for footsies. Looking out of course for a chance of course to jump in for free block-stun if he does a Lariat to build meter.

It’s important to work on your Okizeme against him, as well as familiarise yourself with his Okizeme do if you expect something you can get out. Oh yeah of course, anti-air him EVERY time.

When you’ve got a significant life-lead, back off from your Okizeme should you score a knockdown. Do a Hashinsho whenever you have a chance for damage btw, don’t neglect it for Okizeme as spcaing/damage is more important. Play to expect the time to run-out.

^ - At least… This is how I play to win more consistently.

EDIT: So for footsies you wanna look out for meter-building lariats; his cr.Roundhouse or similar for whiff punishing with TC10; staying just out of Jab SPD range and when you are don’t press anything other than far.st.Jab (give up space if you have to); and of course look out for his jump-ins. Familiarise yourself with what anti-air you should use.

For anti-airing, you generally want to use cr.Fierce as Zangief will be jumping for space rather than to hit you, but if he gets close enough for Ageman then by all means use it. You shouldn’t have to think about using cl.st.Roundhouse as if the Zangief player is jumping at that close of range, he’s probably terrible to begin with.

Also, if you use Ageman and follow it up with the full High Jump cancel combo, remember that if you do a sj.Short you can’t really follow it up on your way down. Either go for a j.Fierce xx Forward, or do sj.Short xx Forward (you may have to reverse your inputs for this to work).

You may prefer going into Raida if you have your back to the corner, or HK Kazegiri if you want.

Oh god, that was such a long time ago when I was still starting Ibuki. XD that’s my cousin btw, lmfao.
I remember that I was still figuring out this match-up, and gief was hella scary up close so being the naive me, I used jump back kunai spam. It was a bit embaressing, and you can see my BP is really low, so this match took between september 2010-October 2010
The good old days.

I can vouch that you’re a million times better now. I had to re-watch the video to look at the BP or if I misread the name. How is he anyway? I’d like to play him again, anything but Marvel! We both nearly killed each other because of how salty that game made us.

Air target combos only work on angled jumps, not neutral jumps.

Also I didn’t realize this was the matchup thread.

  1. That was obviously a mistake.

  2. It’s still relevant to the discussion. Should we post a match video in the match-up whenever we want to talk about it?

Quality is much better now.

wow amazing Ibuki player:p

The Best Boxer.

Question though: what’s the point of the back throw , LK cd , jump/superjump setup? I don’t think option selects are as easily done compared to the much easier back throw , forward dash , j.HP setup, right?

Tbh I never used that setup because of ex rush punch. I rather have Balrog get away and waste a bar then me getting hit with that. Unless you have tech for the ex upper besides throwing on wake up

If you’ve ever tried the setup, you’ll find out that any reversal Boxer tries will whiff and you can catch him with a basic option select neckbreaker.

Old tech shown here http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/ibuki-frame-traps-and-option-selects.108200/ and here

Yeah but if he did ex rush upper which has the fastest recovery he would be able to block the os neckbreaker (I believe)

You should probably try it out yourself.

Dude… You can actually do nj.Fierce xx Forward

???

¿¿¿

Do it on Zangief.
