The Shinobi Secrets: Ibuki Video Thread

Terrible video I know and that was a pretty early match closer to SSF4’s release date.
There was a lot of things I should have done in that match up. I really don’t like how I backed myself into a corner but its that fear I have of fighting Gief in SF4 when I was Viper and I was use to Seismo zoning his ass. lol Not so much with Ibuki. I would have approached this differently now and probably would have done Kunai zoning at the beginning and then when he started edgining his way in get close and utilize more pokes like forward+RH. I didn’t experiment enough with her other pokes and started relying on that jab too much. I overlooked how good forward+RH is and s.Forward at the right ranges.I play this person a lot irl and I don’t like to get in too close because he will churn that cauldron the moment you put him in hit or block stun so I tried playing the player more so then the match up, which I don’t even know how this match up goes. lol

yo man from all of our matches what i can tell you just need to block better and play more safer such as that juri match, she missed her ultra 2 because she was out of range, but on that you should block low, not high…ill critique a bit more later i havent had a chance to watch all of them

dude you played that Gief very well you anti-aired him when u seen him jump in and everything…only thing wrong that i would say is try not to lure yourself into a corner with your kunais and trying to bait him to jump, because if gief ever knocks you down itll be very hard to get out, also remember your pokes cr.mk, and f.hk, i also tend to use s.hp…although im not sure how well that’ll work against gief…also your vortex set up was nice…just make sure you dont miss

I made a comment about that fight in the video itself.

Thanks guys! And I’ve reuploaded my match against ViewtifulVe against her Chun, and I definitely want critique on that one. I’ve also uploaded an extra match between me and Merciless too.

What do you guys think!

Thank you for the feedback.

I want to explain the Ultra 1 setup at 2:02. I knew the proration would be high after the stun and I could have went for another untechable knockdown into the vortex but if I fucked up the timing Gief would have lariat or SPD me into his oki game. I opted for a risk and tested a frame trap set up with Ultra 1, I went for the Target combo after FA crumple because that’s +4 on hit and I anticipated on him going for a reversal SPD but I didn’t think it would push him so far back that the grab wouldn’t reach though if he did throw a poke out instead of reversal SPD the Ultra would have grabbed his limbs. Still, as you can see even though he did a reversal SPD the range is bad enough that the fireball will hit instead which is pretty good especially on low life. I think this would have been unsafe if he sat and block the fireball. I’m actually pretty surprised it pushed Gief that far back. I’ll have to do some more testing in training mode against characters with a larger hit box. It could have been the large hit boxes or something to do with the focus crumple that caused that push back.

I also was experimenting with frame traps off of far s.jab hence the EX Raid attempt in round 3. The corner Kunais towards the end was suppose to be Kunai Super Cancel but they weren’t coming out which I was getting flustered. When I look at the match now he had stock for EX Green Hand to knock my ass down and he even had Ultra 2 available and I didn’t even take notice of that. I got away with murder at the end there. lol

I posted my thoughts in the videos. FPS.

BTW FPS since you live in Baltimore you should know that the most prominent SF players in the area (years of tournament and general SF experience) are going to be holding weekly tournaments at the Xanadu gaming center every WENDESDAY. The first one starts tomorrow at 8pm and everything will be streamed live. I’ll be there with my Ibuki. Be nice to see u make it.

Well the second video wouldn’t let me post a message so I’ll just say this. Against the Cammy player u should have used more combos that go into untech knockdown. Target chains are cool against people that aren’t too good like this guy but u don’t wanna risk getting DP’d too much against better players. Also are you trying to link s.MP into c.HK during those combos where you start with the s.MP? Use more s.LP instead and just combo that into s.MK and then HP neck break. If the character is crouching and makings things difficult u can substitute wtih c.LP, s.LK, sMK target chain to neck break.

i wanna get some nova friends to head over there… ergggg finals, next week!

Yessir I’m definitely gonna be there tomorrow! I’m also bringing some top players from my area with me. My local Gamestop held a SSFIV tournament this past Saturday and my homeboy Devin won the thing. The matches were recorded, but I don’t know the kid who recorded it, and I doubt he’s here on SRK. But I’m bringing myself and a few homies tomorrow, and to the Monthly on May 15th.

As for the 2nd video, yeah I’m trying to start mixing up my TC combos. And I’ll definitely keep that in mind

EDIT: Here’s an online match between me and my best friend (And drummer of my band) online. I think he’s a pretty decent Ryu. Those fucking pokes piss me off! >:O

i wish i lived in Baltimore = /…stupid area I’m at in Texas has no one who gives a shit about fighting games

ALOT more IMHO

some matches i lost…please help

vs Blanka

I fell for alot of tricks this Blanka setup I didnt know what to do to counter them or simply get away from

vs Dhalsim

sorry about the first round on the dhalsim match i thought i was recording and lately saw that I wasnt

Damn dude, that Blanka was ruthless. On Round 2 around 1:45 where he whiffed his ultra, instead of Raida I would’ve TC’d his ass to spin kicks then to Raida. Nigga would’ve been fried.

I’m probably the worst critic on the planet lol.

My defense is pretty sloppy overall, but I still pulled off the win and he also gave me some props after the match.

edit: Don’t mind my wake up EX Kazegiri  I swear I don’t do that a lot!

Here’s some Ibuki matches between me and my brother. Obviously I have a lot to work on!

GG Throwdown. This matchup is totally alien to me. I asked myself after that 1st round, WTF just happened? Lol

I sent you a xbl friend request, I need to learn this matchup! Dope Ibuki!

just wondering. What do you guys use to record? I tried using my webcam but its embarrassingly poor. Do I have to use camcorder or what? any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I would say work on using target combos for punishments instead of a throw. Then take it further by going through with you’re target combo string of s.lp -> s.mp -> c.hk -> s.hk even if it is blocked and at the end of it jump away a use a kunai as soon as you leave the ground. If he doesnt block it super jump cancel the s.hk and start over. From experience though, I wouldnt go for a full air target chain, secon hit whiffs on certain characters depending on their size and your timing, just j.hp and then into another target chain, mix a throw in there. The opponets option to defending against it is a blanka ball or electricity, so be weary of using it all the time. Sometimes just do an empty jump in if he doesnt safe fall and go through with a throw or blocked combo string into back super jump cancel kunai. If he’s close to the side of the screen, aim for a cross up, almost always happens against the smaller characters. Kind of an unhill battle though, blanks can just hold a charge or mash out electricity. I havent tried it, but maybe commmand dash -> something after a blocked blanka ball ?

Other than that, blanka used a lot of tricks into throws or electricity, Ibuki has many tricks as well, start using her command dash on his wake-up as a ground cross up mix up into a throw/combo or one of his baited special (looking for blanks to high the high blanka ball so you can take advantage of a whiff.)

I have some videos that I’ll be posting up probably tomorrow. I have a class that starts in a half hour, and I probably won’t have time later tonight. Don’t expect much since I’m bad with linking standing MK into special online and I miss some easy opportunities. I’ll post a variety where I win, lose, or screw up so I can see what I can do better (which should be a lot).
