The funny thing is beating the game on Ultra Nightmare (Difficulty, not graphical setting lol) is quite an achievement and there’s usually one person posting a day on the Doom Reddit jumping for joy that they did it with 20 comments asking for tips…

Being able to say “Yeah, I’ve beaten the game on Ultra Nightmare” when you’re referring to the graphic setting is scummy as all hell

Like I said, the earliest levels of Eternal are harder than the final level of 2016. Would I have kept playing Eternal, I’d probably say it gets even harder. And both are on normal difficulty. Can you imagine Ultra Nightmare? That’s impossible.

It’s not really. I think I can do it. I’m up to the third level on UN, which personally speaking is the hardest one in the game for me because you’re not as equipped as the game thinks you are lol. I’m also avoiding Slayer Gates on my UN attempt to reduce the risk of dying in a bonus fight, but those extra weapon mod points would help a lot.

Keep in mind, I’ve beaten the campaign on Nightmare like 4 or 5 times alone, plus replaying missions countless times to get my strats and techniques more solid.

Eternal’s funny. I definitely agree that it’s a much harder game at the start than 2016 Just because of things like less ammo capacity and there’s so many more options at your disposal that it’s basically impossible to have them all instinctually integrated into your playstyle until you play it a few times, but once that happens and things are clicking, I think it gets easier than 2016… I actually never beat 2016 on nightmare, there was a gore nest I could just not beat, despite trying for like two weeks and beating the game on UV like 4 times.

Wow, that early? Gore nests never came up after, like, the second mission. But wow that’s pretty impressive. I had a really hard time with that loss of ammo in Eternal, so I commend you.

In regards to Leffen here: keep in mind that “minimum wage” jobs Sweden probably pays quite a bit higher than the equivalent in the US. That stuff is probably the basis for a lot of miscommunication here.

Yeah, the fucking gore nest on resource operations (the 2nd level) was impossible for me on Nightmare. Edit: I will say that Eternal made me a better player, and I would have better controller settings if I were to play it again, so I know I could do it now, but it killed me back then.

Regarding ammo, once you start incorporating the chainsaw into a normal habit of doing when you see an enemy open for it (and getting a better idea of where all your cool downs are at and the noises they make when recharged), it becomes a lot easier. I rarely run out of ammo now. I also cycle between different guns a lot. You’ll come to prefer different guns in different situations against different enemies and you’ll happy to swap weapons to not only deal with them easier, but your keep your ammo balanced.

I’ll keep that in mind. It’s a huge change from how I used to use the chainsaw.
