its an option select

its different for every character and matchup I’m afraid

I play Gouken and while I throw my share of projectiles as well, I have other tricks that can help me get around projectile spammers. For one, his Palm Strike goes through projectiles during the forward motion so that’s always fun to catch people with, especially the EX version because it launches them into the air for me to do just about whatever I want.

An obvious alternative would be Demon Flip --> Dive Kick or Air Throw. People always mistake that for an ordinary jump until the throw actually comes out.

Another fun option for me when I’m up close and I know a projectile is coming is the parry. That thing comes out so fast that it can even stuff multi-hit projectiles and it’s really satisfying to land.

EX spiral arrow!

My favorite thing in the world with Gouken is to counter Shinkuu Hadouken at near point blank range. That shit pisses scrub Ryu players right the fuck off.

looking for other noobs

to play some games over xbox live. I played SF through out the years in it’s various forms and have been playing HD Remix since it came out. I haven’t won a ranked match yet and am still working on combos and getting the various timings down for moves and the Ultras etc.

I have a mic and use it every game even if it’s to say “wow you owned me” :bgrin:

I wanted to play some player matches and hopefully learn a thing or two while having some fun matches instead of hearing some kid scream into the mic some racial slurs or talk about raping my dog.

Thank you, I didn’t know EX moves had different properties too (now I’m gonna try them all). Too bad the thread was closed, cause the differences are not always just about recovery

Every attack has three stages: startup, active, and recovery. If you are hit with a throw during any of these stages, the throw becomes inescapable. So if your friend is throwing you during the brief moment you slide across the floor after a missed Spiral Arrow or right when you land after a blocked Shoryuken, you’re getting tossed no matter what. Just be glad he isn’t hitting you with a big combo instead.

Ah thanks! That’s really good to know and helps a lot to understand the system and what NOT to do.

FG newbies should check this out.

Seriously. I was surprised how relevant this still is.

Hello, I’d be grateful for a couple of answers:

  1. How do you deal with shoto players who keep jumping around landing high kick-low sweep. The angle of attack, and speed make it very difficult to react. I have found the game is slow to block low for some reason, but even so if they land this once (and these players do this ALL the time) then you’ve had it as you can’t recover quick enough in time for the next one. It doesn’t look like a crossup but it’s close.

  2. on the 360 controller (there are no alternatives available here and I’m fully aware how crap a situation that is) every time i try the QCFx2 motion certain character’s have for their ultra/supers it comes out as the SRK motion (about 95% of the time to be more precise). I don’t understand this; I’m inputting the move as cleanly as possible - it’s not that hard a motion to do and yet the controller seems hell bent on reading it wrong.

If you have an anti-air special move, like a shoryuken or equivalent, use that.
If you don’t have one, or don’t have time to do one, try an anti-air normal attack, typically crouching heavy punch.
If you can’t do either of those, get in the habit of blocking high then blocking low when someone jumps in at you. It should be a habit burned into your muscle memory.

Go into training mode and turn on “input display” and unlimited ultra meter. Try to do your ultra and if a shoryuken comes out instead, look at the listed command inputs to see what you actually input, and correct the mistake. I’ll throw out a guess that you’re probably pressing the attack buttons too early before your analog stick goes all the way to the forward position.

Another thing you can try, is if your using the D-PAD try using the Analog Stick, when I was waiting on my stick it’s what I ended up doing and it helped me.

Introduction goes here, right?

Anyway, new to SRK, new to arcade sticks (ha). Picked up SFIV to pick up the slack (and to train execution) during rest times from playing SCIV…

Nice to meet you all.

Just saying hello.
I’ve been playing fighters for a bit, but never put too much time into them. I played CVS2 and Tekken 4 a lot, and was ok at those. Been Playing SF4 since it came out on console, and have been putting a lot more energy into getting better at it. I play an ok Cammy, and an even worse Dan. Currently playing just with the PS3 control, but have parts on the way to mod a Hori Wii fight stick to use. Anyways, this site has been great at providing a database of information on so many things! Just wanted to say thanks for having a great site, and hope to spar with some of you guys soon!

Uhhh…

Introductions thread as well from what I see here,
Long time lurker(at least since 07 or so), first time poster(also first time making an account).

I’ve been into fighting games since I first played SF2 in arcades as a kid, grew up playing Champion Edition in arcades & on a friend’s Sega genesis/megadrive. Later remember playing SF2Turbo with friends, only had a chance once to play Super SF2 in arcades. I have always preferred SF games to Mortal Kombat games, however my love for SF was a thing not shared by my friends.

Now later in life I snagged Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on the PSN and have been enjoying it for quite some time. And I even pre-ordered Street Fighter IV.

I can’t claim to be tournament level in it whatsoever, however I can say that I’m the second best person I know in my neighborhood at the game. (which online & tournament wise means jack, haha)

I usually main with Fei Long, but only because I’m tired of seeing everyone else play shotos. I’ve enjoyed the wealth of information here and I have finally decided to try to become a part instead of just leeching it and never giving anything back.

I’ve yet to get a fight stick, sadly by the time I realized I really wanted on, it was already too late to order the TE version and the normal one. So I’ll either wind up getting one made or waiting for the second string of them so I can get a stick & mod it for both 360 & ps3, even though I only on a ps3.

I do enjoy other fighters as well, just not nearly as much as SF, I enjoy Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat, I’m uneducated in Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and Dead or Alive, but the bits I have played of those titles I have enjoyed. I was a huge fan of the Vs series, however I’ve only been able to personally enjoy X-men vs SF, Marvel vs Capcom, and MvC2. The local arcades never went into the plunge with CvS and I never personally owned a ps2/xbox, so I’m catching up on PS2 titles with my ps3(backwards compatible). I even play a little bit of Smash Brothers (GCN & wii versions).

Well my short introduction ran longer than I’d like, but yeah, I’ve always appreciated SRK.com and look forward to being an actual active member, not just the lurker reading all your posts.

I’ve tried the data inputs and as far as i can tell the controller stick (i never used the dpad except for dashing) just isn’t up to the job. It’s not reading inputs correctly. If i’m pointing forward and it’s telling me it’s either df or down then there’s something wrong. I can see the way i’m holding the move ffs, it’s not rocket science.

I have SFIV for the PS3. How do i play my friends that are on PSN?

What do you do against throwers on wake-up?

What do you do against Bison’s head stomp.
