THE SF4 BEGINNERS Thread! NEW? POST HERE FIRST!

Yes I am aware of that. But its bugging me that much specificly because of the fact that low attacks go trough my low blocks and overhead attacks go trough my high block. It just doesnt make any sence in my little SFIV virgin head.

Hello, So im fairly new to Street Fighter, havent played the old games all that much… a bit SF2 and a bit hd remix…

Never had a stick, but i got one yesterday… the standard edition madcatz stick because i got really tired of the 360 DPAD, the thing is…

I SUCK with the stick,i hardly get off what i mean to do, so im wondering if you think i should take the stick back to the store and get a fightpad or if i should stay with the stick and try to learn to use it?

if you are godlike on a pad maybe you should go back … otherwise stick with the stick :bgrin:

^Stay with the stick. If you have about $40 and can open your stick up without getting scared, get a Sanwa JLF stick and 6 sanwa 30mm buttons from lizardlick.com and mod your stick with REAL arcade parts because the standard edition clone parts are TERRIBLE after just a few plays and will mess up your inputs.

I know the learning curve is hard when you are first starting out on a stick, but stay with it. There is a reason none of the people who get used to stick NEVER go back, because stick is hands down just better for execution than pads.

Hey, that Street Fighter IV Frame Data link is down.

Is there a mirror or something similar to it?

What is the actual amount of frames you wait to cancel norm in this game? Universal or wut?

Ok, thanks alot for the reply.

Do anyone know any site or similar where you can learn the basics or anything that can help you get better with a stick.

Thanks, I wasn’t aware there were more than 3 levels of difficulty. Just unlocked Fei Long.

Tic SPD? What does this mean? I know its about the spinning pile driver but the “tic” I don’t get, I saw it mentioned in the Zangief section.

I see posts about people having problems with ultras and supers quite a bit on here and at Gamespot. I had no problem doing specials on HDR, but once I got this I couldn’t consistently do my ultras or specials, EX moves would just keep coming out. I can pull them off 90% of the time now; all I need to do to consistently pull off ultras and supers I exaggerate the final movement on my joystick. SO, with shoto characters, and their ilk, instead of only going f, try and go a little above to almost uf. It works really well for me.

After Tvc, I cannot get to grip of the Sf4 combos

After putting about a 100 hours into tvc the last few months,I cannot get to grips with the Sf4 combo system. I don’t understand how to even connect a c.lp into a c.mk. I’ve been in training mode for hours and I just can’t get the moves to chain together.

Guile challaenge mode

Hi !
I’m NEW
I cant to do

Jump Heavy kick Heavy Punch and Sonic boom

How to do after heavy punch --> Sonic Boom (with lp , mp, hp ?)

Thanks ! …
:pray:

It’s the same in every fighting game… you can cancel normals as soon as they hit.

Doing a move, blocked or hit, that leaves you close and recovering faster than your opponent, then SPD.

SF’s combo system is not like a Vs. game. With the exception of the Jabs, Shorts, and unique “target combos” of some characters, you cannot cancel normal moves into other normals, only into specials. To do a combo like cr.LP, cr.MK, you have you wait for the cr.LP to entirely recover, then hit the cr.MK. These are called “links” as opposed to “cancels” (canceling the recovery of a move into a special) or “chains” (canceling a normal into another normal). For a feature that will help with the timing of links, see here.

[edit] - Should probably say hi first ey! - So … hello. Fellow SF IV players… [/edit]
Hm - This is more of a general annoyance than anything else. With SF, and most other 6 button fighting games, I refer to their layout as (LP MP HP / LK MK HK). which IMO accurately communicates the locations of the buttons I push.

Even with SNK stuff - I refer to it as LP,HP,LK,HK - (not ‘ABCD’). what doesn’t make any sense to me is referring to buttons as :

* Jab - weak punch
* Strong - medium punch
* Fierce - fierce punch
* P - any punch

* Short - weak kick
* Forward - medium kick
* Roundhouse (RH) - fierce kick

What’s up with that? I mean if i see a move annotated as:

LP,LP -> LK,HP (or similar) it’s simpler non? Rather than:

jab punch, jab punch (towards) short kick, fierce punch…

I mean - no big deal. I can always use find+replace… but surely it’s completely unnecessary to learn that terminology? Any thoughts? Am I the only one who doesn’t like it?

Salutations everyone. :smile:

I am an avid SF fan and a fan of arcade gaming in general. I am by no means new to the series and it’s complexities, but I am however new to this forum. I did not want to post my first comment in an irrelevant thread, so here I am.

By the way, they aren’t kidding when they say HARD Trial mode. I have almost finished Sakura’s (lvl 4), but it is definitely taking awhile.

Hey, I’m Awesmic. I’m not new, but I don’t post here often either.

I came here because I recently got Street Fighter 4 and enjoy it a lot, even though I still enjoy playing DOA4. But I’m willing to learn more about SF4 and get better by playing.

I have two available GamerTags for 360 users, Future Awesmic and Trollan ZERO. I do not have a main character.

this terminology is all from old school street fighter, you can type however you want but people use both notations on this board. most people use “hard” or “heavy” in place of “fierce” and “light” in place of “weak.”

as for the whole stick thing. trust me when i say that after the early frustration you will be MUCH better on a joystick than on a controller. theres no other way to put it. some quick tips-

  1. practace doing special moves first- dp, fireball, and half/whole circle motions individually, make sure you can do all of your characters special moves independantly on command.

  2. simple 2-in-1’s aka c.mk xx fireball. s.hp xx dp. these will be your beginning combos for punishing when there are big openings.

get those things down before worrying too much about all the fadc stuff, get ya basics.

can u abuse the focus attack as if it was a parry?

wondering if someone in this thread could help me i’m kinda new to sf…well trying to get good at sf that is. im doing gouken’s trial and on the third one i think theres something like S.HP -> (dragon punch motion + any p) i can’t seem to figure out how to do it… i see people talking alot about canceling… is that what i need to be doing? and if so how ? thanks.

Hey Shoryuken members! My name is Jhonson. I’m new to SRK but I’ve been playing Street Fighter since SNES days. The first Street Fighter I played was Street Fighter 2 Turbo! I’ve been a big fan of sfa3 and capcom vs snk 2. I’ve been playing sf4 since it came out in the arcades and just picked it up on PS3. If anyone wants to play my psn is sokisking.

I usually play with ken but I fell in love with using ryu in sf4. I really want to learn how to use Dhalsim. I havnt played any really good Dhalsim players so if any of u guys use Dhalsim hit me up on psn!
