The SF2 Hyper Fighting Thread

He actually beat me 3 to 1, we played on GGPO, played AE with speed 1. I didn’t record anything, I just realized I should have. Next time…

Np, you dont have to record (especialy if GGPO is ur only way to play), but it is a nice bonus if you can. Thanks again, good luck in Ur next matches.

Whenever the guy is ready I’m down

I beat JED07 2-1, good games. I don’t know if it was just our match, but sometimes the game would freeze for a bit, then return to normal. It was a little better in the 3rd match, though.

Ill try to PM Pup again as well. Thanks for keping a presence in the thread.

Thanks alot guys, pls remember the matches are best of 5, not best of 3. If you are cool with letting the result stay, I’ll update brackets now, or if JED wants to play the extra 1 (or 2 games) pls get back to me and I’ll hang on.
If you were using GGPO for HF, it is glitchy and desyncy. Generaly its either better to use Supercade, or use HSF2 (speed 1, HF characters only) in GGPO.
Thanks both again and let me know what u want to do regarding the result.

Nah it’s fine you can update the bracket and put in TarkanX as the winner.

We did play on GGPO, HSF2 speed 1. I guess that early in the morning there are a lot of Asian based players which causes some spikes.

Anyways ggs to TarkanX.

Ok cool, thanks alot guys, good luck in the next round.
*Brackets updated in first post.

What does everyone prefer to play on right now? I know 2DF was pretty hot but Supercade seems like it’s empty all the time.

@asociale: my opponent is still missing… this is the last week and then i give him forfait… i m quite fed up now, it’s been sth like 2 months and he didnt answer my mp so… if he doesnt show up /reply in two day i give forfait…sorry

Thankyou for your patience and keeping contact in the thread guys. Your opponents, ScoRyu & Pup, have been kicked out of the tourney. You both, and Ultracombo who would have faced Pup in losers bracket, now progress to the next stage via auto win.
*Brackets updated in the first post.
Thanks again and good luck in the next stage.

There isn’t really a time for HF, there are too few players, *something we hope to change here. Its probably best to post game requests here in the thread, arrange matches with people in the GGPO irc channel: irc://irc.quakenet.org/ggpo or get othe players msn’s. This is a small scene so it takes a little more to stay in touch. I would like to suggest a regular meet, maybe Sunday morning US time, how would people feel about that?

*EDIT. In other news, US tourney entrant JED07 is featured in front page spotlight:

& finaly to FiForce, Old Masta lost his login to this site, so he’s asked me to PM you his e-mail (which I’ve done) so take a look.
Thanks.

I can’t seem to PM Battosai, since he has exceeded his PM limit.

By the way, Crayfish, I’m not sure if you can help with this, but since you are very knowledgeable about the U.S. CPS1 SF2 scene (despite living in the U.K.), I wanted to list down the great players for each iteration.

No disrespect, but there are a lot of great players not mentioned on there and a few that really shouldn’t be listed. John Choi was never a top player in the O.G. Hyper Fighting days. I grew up playing in L.A. at Family Fun Arcade so I’ve basically played them all. Gerald Abraham (LA Akira) would be a great person to have this discussion with as he played both at Family, World’s Finest Comics, and even the top arcades in Japan during the Champion Edition days. He’s also one of the best old school SF2 players that I’ve ever played.

not working for me the link so i hafve to get lucky to see mrhadoken on

I’m here. We gonna play on ggpo? I assme HSFA would be the better game to try playing on

Just saw Biscuit is in the super turbo room now

True Old School: I agree that the list isn’t very complete. I know that there are some names that aren’t there that should be. I wasn’t around during that time (though I lived close to that area of L.A. as a small kid, during the SF2 golden years). The only information I have is the magazine that shows Tomo, with the board ranking of players at his side, and the posts that are mentioned here. I’ve read that NorCal and SoCal never really played each other, until SSF2. I would like more players that were around the scene back then to give us more information, as due to obvious circumstances, the information isn’t quite as clean as it is now; especially with the lack of information from other areas during that era, though the consensus is that SoCal dominated CPS1 SF2.

I would also be very interested in the great Japanese top players during the CPS1 SF2 era. Since you were around Worlds Finest, would you mind posting who you think were the GREAT players during that era, from World Warrior to New Challengers?

And the reason why I put John Choi on the Hyper Fighting, was due to what I read in the Alt.games.SF2 articles. At the USFGC, which was held in 1998, Hyper Fighting was supposed to be a game in the line-up, and the consensus was that John Choi would take it… Mike Watson was retired at this time, I believe, and Jeff Schaefer stopped playing. Obviously, Hyper Fighting had stopped getting play a while ago, so the competition might have not have been as good (HF was dropped from the line-up, eventually), so take it how you will.
