Guys, awesome news. I just took a tournament with Shulkie! Well, it was a team effort (a-Shulkie, a-Jill, a-Haggar), but after practicing ways around keep away I went to the tournament expecting the worst.
Last minute decision was to put Jill second because the DHC chain is a lot easier to do and hit. Emerald Cannon at the end of Shulkie’s longest combo, followed by Jill’s :dp: hyper followed by Haggar’s :dp: hyper deals more than one million damage.
First match they paired me up against a guy I know is a good player, and it was a good match but even when he tried keepaway (Storm, Akuma, someone else; and won one round of it) I got the win. Then they paired me up with ANOTHER good player, and I was like, damn… more keepaway! Sentinel, Doom missiles, Dormammu. First game, it was down to Jill and Doom, with Jill having a pixel of life and Doom having a third or so. Doom went for the chip win with his Photon Array hyper, but unfortunately at the same time I went for Jill’s dive kick hyper FTW. Second game I had better control with She-Hulk and I didn’t lose anyone luckily.
Third match I was paired with one of my best friends Mulciber113 who has fought my team to DEATH and knows exactly everything I will attempt. Odds just seem to be against me lol Regardless after a good match that went down to the last game, but I barely escaped defeat. Then the finals.
Let me build up to this a little bit. Thursday night I brought my PS3 to campus to play with some friends. The good players I refer to showed up also, but not part of the same group, just coincidentally. One of the players whose username here I don’t know plays me, and I pick Shulkie, Haggar, Jill and did alright winning 3 games. Then he switched characters to Sentinel, Phoenix and Doom Missiles. Yes, Doom Missiles is indeed a character lmao.
I couldn’t win once for the rest of the night; 10 games I got in. I was worried that this was what our Nashicon (con I went to) tournament is going to be like, so me and Mulciber113 hit the lab on Friday and we replicate that player’s actions until I am able to get around it.
I was still understandably nervous seeing that team staring at my team in the finals this afternoon. I braced for the worst in the 3 out of 5 series. Especially when I thought it was 2 out of 3 and I HORRIBLY LOST the first round. At first I struggled to gain ground like I knew I would, but worse. It wasn’t long until he had 5 bars, but I still went in to kill the Sentinel, guns blazing (no seriously, missiles) and took down Sentinel. Then I took down Phoenix, and then Dark Phoenix came out, he X-Factored immediately after and started her crossup game. I somehow manage to block for what felt like an eternity and I wondered why I wasn’t dead yet, but then I died anyway. I still think it was 2 out of 3 so I don’t see many hopes.
Second game, the keepaway is slightly easier averted, but after doing away with Sentinel Phoenix had 4 bars, so she activated her keepaway mode and after only a few well-placed fireballs and hits she had 5 bars. Some people were already saying it was over. I started to believe it but kept on going. As soon as Dark Phoenix hit, though, I remembered a key part to my defense that I had been neglecting: Haggar’s assist. So I waited patiently until I heard Phoenix’s voice signaling the teleport and hit the button. Because Phoenix’s teleports all place her immediately next to or above you, Haggar would surely hit; and it did. After Haggar’s hits, I somehow manage to land a perfect launcher, air magic series, OTG Torpedo into Emerald Cannon to take out Phoenix. At this point the entire room gets so freaking loud I can’t even think.
Doom comes in and starts trying to keep away He manages to get me down to Haggar. I land pipe, launch into air, air combo but doesn’t kill. I do his unblockable launch throw forward, then finish the combo FTW. Room gets even louder.
Third game I manage to kill Sentinel after a couple of missed opportunities by him leading to 500+ damage combos and a reset. Phoenix doesn’t have 5 bars, so when she’s coming in I go for the air throw. Mind you I think I may be mixing the matches descriptions, but I think this one’s the one I did that in. The back throw connects, somehow I manage to quickly pull out a OTG Torpedo into Emerald Cannon into OTG and maybe I’m not remembering right but I think I run cancelled into Sommersault to beat her. Room gets impossibly loud. Again, it comes down to Haggar. I think he tries dive kicking and I spin around with Haggar, catch him in the Rapid Fire Fist, X-Factor into another Rapid Fire Fist, both mashed out to max, FTW. I shake his hand and he tells me it’s actually 3 out of 5 because it’s the finals. FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU— is my train of thought, but after verification I found this to be true. Mind you I’m not a tournament person so I am clueless.
VERY early on, however, one erroneous call in of Doom af the same time that he was doing laser landed a c.:h: in my favor on both before any missiles came out. Launcher, :h::s:, Senton, TACc, c.:h:, relaunch, magic series, OTG Torpedo, Emerald Cannon followups into… As I was doing the followups I saw Doom was freaking alive. But instead of doing Jill’s :dp: hyper to possibly finish off Sentinel off of another DHC, I instead went for her guns, which are generally considered to be crappy by anyone EXCEPT ME lol. The guns manage to kill Doom! Sentinel has no one to cover his weak moments, no one to stop Sentinel-death combos, and what’s better is Phoenix only has three bars! I decide to not let that bitch get to running away and getting 5, so knowing he won’t teleport close to me, I go for the air throw as she’s coming in, and it connects! Inputs, don’t fail me now. I run, OTG Torpedo into Emerald and followups hit!
Of course I may be meshing a lot of the matches I had in my mishmash of memories, so this guy taped the match and will put it up on Youtube, so maybe my story doesn’t match or something but man, it was so awesome. Don’t get mad at me if the video shows a different story; I still don’t remember what happened very clearly.
