Well if you just want to beat a stage then yeah you don’t need a strategy. If you want to beat the stage with a full combo, then yeah you need strategy and planning. that is MUCH more difficult. And besides just cause you have one really good move doesn’t mean you can’t mix it up for style. Unless you just don’t care about that, but then this is the wrong game for you.
It might alienate a lot of the Japanese Basara fanbase, but a spin-off game with the combat complexity (and AI difficulty) of a DMC / Bayonetta would blow my mind.
I keep dying at Osaka Winter. Only once did I make it to Mitsunari, heh. But Ieyasu is so much fun to play as
I said it before and I will say it again.
The Legend of Sparda.
This engine but with DMC universe. Telling the story of Sparda when he brought down hell’s army.
Make it happen Capcom.
Ha. Capcom isn’t that smart.
Currently doing a playthrough with Ieyasu. Random WTF thing happened to me when I encountered my first fugitive. I was playing as Yukimura on his stage when Kojuro and Masamune invade. I found the fugitive and started beating him down. I went for the Basara KO finish and he disappeared. Mid attack. He escaped.
I know this game isn’t for me. I’ve never liked these kind of games. But my girlfriend does. Which is why I’ve been asking questions because she hates SRK.
And no. I don’t really care about style. I play to win. I’m going to abuse everything possible to make my life easier.
well c’est la vie I suppose haha
I’m sure Kobayashi could probably do such a thing, if he wanted/was allowed to do so. It would just be a thing of seeing if it would be in the series’ best interest.
After all, one thing to consider is that this series really makes its money on the MERCHANDISING. There are some samples of how some fangirl segments haven’t even actually bought a single game in the series. They just read the manga, watch the anime, buy the art books, figurines, plushies, etc. and then proceed to interact with their fellow fujoshi in any number of ways (pixiv being among them). Comparably speaking, the games are just a small facet of the overall “Sengoku BASARA media blitz” that has Capcom expanding the franchise across several mediums. There’s even a THEME PARK now.
So, honestly? I think maybe injecting another layer of combat depth in a future BASARA may serve the games well. Of course, guys play these games too, and they would certainly appreciate such. And at this point, I think the main thing that separates BASARA from its main competition (SSM/DW) is the fact that more males play those games, because it’s not so much of a sausage-fest on Koei’s side of the battlefield. The sooner Capcom is willing to provide more typical male gamers with some thing to look at, is when I believe Capcom’s series will only get more appeal. Especially if they’re serious about continuing to market BASARA worldwide…
Whenever they are done with the Sengoku era, they should totally do some other stuff, like 100 years war BASARA with dual wielding bishoujo joan of arc haha
I doubt they’ll ever be “done” with Sengoku; if Koei can tell the same basic stories for over a decade now, certainly Capcom can do as well!
All the same though, I do hope that Capcom will give Koba the idea to stretch the franchise to other avenues, as well. As much as Capcom can make their own history so awesome, it’d be funny if they actually did something similar for others.
For example, I’ve always wanted to see them do something for the Revolutionary War or the Civil War. Screw “political correctness” and the overly-sensitive American interest groups! I want to see stylish, bishie renditions of Lee and Grant shouting each others’ names before making some battlefield of VA blow up magnificently.
Hell yeah man, that would be badass. Lincoln would actually fight on the field, and as a former lawyer his weapon could be an oversized gavel lol
Capcom did try to go with an over the top insane route with a retelling of the quest of the Holy Grail with War of The Grail. Not that it’s a story that ‘really happened’ but still. It came out around the same time as SB1. Kinu Nishimura of SF did the character designs and of the guys behind MVC2 and all of the Gundam vs. games Capcom ghost makes for Namco/Bandai/Banpresto produced it. Arthur in the game (not G&G Arthur, totally different) looked sick! The game bombed in Japanese arcades and never hit console.
It was a mix of a fighting game and DW where it was your character and your army vs. someone else and their army.
Now they just helped produce Fate / Unlimited Codes and that’s probably Capcom’s last word on the Holy Grail for now.
Would love to see America’s Civil War get the Sengoku Basara treatment. ABRAHAM LINCOLN THROWING TOP HATS HELL YEAH! :looney:
Oh yeah…I remember that game. I was always hoping it would have eventually come to PS2 so I could have played it, but alas. I’m convinced it was simply a matter that Capcom marketed it to the wrong demographic. Japanese arcade goers likely wouldn’t dig it, but I’d think the impressionable, DMC-loving American audiences likely would have sopped that game up like a biscuit!
Jefferson Davis: a la Mitsunari ABRAHAM! ABRAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM! ABRAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!!!
I can see why Manface Saica is considered to be broken…even Ieyasu admits Saica is man-ish.
Here’s a vid of War of the Grail BTW if anyone hasn’t seen it. I don’t remember who the other three characters were supposed to be but Arthur is the last one shown.

Arg I wanted to play this! :crybaby:
Reminds me of Ninety Nine Nights…or Bladestorm.
Bladestorm. Did anyone pick up a retail copy? If so, was it any good?
I’ve been meaning to pick Baldestorm up…but it’s hard for me to find.
Edit: N/m, just bought it.
WTF…I gotta wait 2-5 weeks!?
Wow, Geese wasn’t kidding. Kanbei is slow as Hell. No wonder he had trouble vs Muneshige. At least his crowd control isn’t too bad. I can only imagine how much of a pain in the ass Kotaro would be to fight with Kanbei.
I wanted to ask aside from Hanzo, which assists are worth leveling up? I just level up whoever at the moment.
Keiji and Forest guy give you a 20% defense boost when they are maxed out, other than that…there are some allies who give you bonus exp/zenny or a boost to luck and zenny when u finish a battle without them being KOed. It’s not much when their confidence is low, but when maxed they can give a decent amount to you.
