To anyone who has a fair experience playing SC4 on both XBL and PSN, and has spent some time with excellent netcode (GGPO or 2DF), does the online play seem to run more smoothly on one or the other?

Probably the funniest shit ever

lol thats horrible

i wish it were satire but its not

It’s pretty much equally horrible on both. I wouldn’t recommend this game’s online if you want to be competitive, especially since many of its important elements are based on reaction and/or timing (i.e. blocking low, breaking throws, guard impacts, just frames).

The thing is that with the best possible connection strength, it can be close to 2DF quality, but that almost never actually happens.

EDIT: If you are interested in playing this game and trying to decide on a version, PS3 is the tournament standard but has slowdown on a couple stages, while the 360 version has no slowdown at all. PS3 does have the much better & more interesting Star Wars character to begin with, if you really don’t want to spend the extra $5 to have both.

It HAS to be. Strategy isn’t even spelled right.

sigh, kids today

Strategery is a fake bush-ism

Cool vid. That last pic of Taki… LOL. Fucking Namco.

lol thanks

that was actually the least racy picture i was planning on using

HOooooly shit

so after the tourney in buffalo this weekend, some people are now wanting to ban yoda

this community continues to impress me

wait, did yoda win or something?:wonder:

no reason to ban him, sheesh. he’s an established weak sauce character, lol.

Ban…Yoda? The motherfucker who literally cannot defend against certain attacks? Does not compute.

yep he used yoda a lot from what i understand lolol

Izzit to potentially save the player the loss?

ok, i’ll post in a bit more detail about the yoda thing.

one cool thing i learned from this weekend - yoda actually CAN block the “unblockable” low strings but it has to be just-frame timing. so now he doesn’t die for free to zasalamel etc.

and yoda isn’t good in general, just real gimmicky. given that this was the first tournament where someone used him, and that someone was oofmatic, it’s no surprise what happened. doesn’t mean he’s ban-worthy, but it looks like he may join algol on the nationals ban list anyway. vader will continue to be legal by the looks of it, though.

i was talking to people about this for awhile, and from what i can tell there are two major concerns calibur players have about algol & yoda:

  1. They can be stupid & boring to fight; for instance, the best way to counter Yoda is to pick Taki or Apprentice and run away with their flips the entire match. The common belief in this community seems to be that competitive play should emphasize creativity & fun above all else, and these two characters hamper that more than anyone else.

  2. This is really the key, the central issue, and I can’t believe I didn’t figure this out sooner…Algol & Yoda could make the game look bad to the casual crowd, which in turn could hurt SC4’s chance of making it into pro gaming leagues. It appears that this community wants to follow in DOA’s footsteps and hitch its wagon to the WCG’s of the world, and that requires a different way of doing things from what SRKers are used to.

So in the end, there is actually a good pragmatic reason for these rules. I just think they’re backing the wrong horse in this race, but that’s a whole other topic in itself…

You can’t really blame the SC scene for wanting to go that direction. Prize money and more independence is a good thing.

Fuck Kilik man. I love Talim and Maxi, but online play is mad iffy for me. It’s like if they don’t have a 5, don’t bother.

Are either of my characters worth the time/effort?

Yes. And Kilik, too. All for wildly different reasons, though. Whatever you do, don’t take any online match (even Blue Connections) to heart. That split second makes a difference and some matches would be decided differently if not for the fact that you can’t react on sight all the time.

Anyway, give some major practice time to your faves and don’t be hung up on tiers and crap.

Is Hilde starting to look competant? Last time I checked, she was considered weak.
