The funny thing is that a lot of SC players complained about Hilde, without realizing that she’s helped by these rules. As has been discussed before, Yoda is one of her main counters, and IIRC Algol does better than most against her.
Ceirnian, a few questions:
I recall you saying Vader has a good matchup against Hilde as well. Why would this be?
What do you think of the Rock & Kilik fights? Rock has the same major advantage as Asta, and though he’s obviously much worse I have to think he could still hang. And as for Kilik, Asura > all charge moves and it seems like his range would make it hard to play the whiff-punish game.
Vader has a good matchup against Hilde for a few reasons, but the main one is that her ‘death’ combo (c3b long ringout one, and also the FC C2B combo) does not work on Vader / Rock / Astaroth / Yoda. Vader doesn’t have to worry about making one mistake and dying as much as the rest of the cast, so he is able to operate more offensively if he so chooses. Another reason is that Vader has a force parry which has active GI properties for longer than a normal GI. This means he doesn’t have to be quite as precise to catch her charges, and at the same time he nets some pretty good damage out of it. Vader is also a safe character who can turtle up pretty damn well.
Rock I don’t think is that big of a threat myself, he can’t be big combo’d but I think he lacks a good enough basis to be considered more deadly than others in the cast. As for Kilik, Asura can be auto gi’d by C3A… so the person who is patient and times their attack well will win out in that battle. Kiliks range can be pretty linear and/or easy to spot, so I’m not too worried about his range game. It’s up mid range (ws b) and close range (fotd and asura among other things) that make him deadly against her.
Matchup wise I don’t know what it would be for Kilik, but he certainly fares better off than a majority of the cast.
NOTE: In the actual tournament, Silent (Nightmare) placed 3rd, DINO 4th, and Vints 5th. Silent can’t make it to Nationals, so Vints got his spot.

People were up in arms after the first two regional winners both used Hilde, and now we have a third winner with her…but there are actually more Voldos. And the overall character variety isn’t looking too bad right now, though it’s still early.
socal regional is this weekend…names to watch out for include nofacekiller (online Ivy who just won his first tournament this weekend), Aris (SC2 Voldo beast, doesn’t play him in this one though), and ViciousSuicide (top SC2 Yoshi, plays Lizardman now).
Ceirnian’s been tearing shit up with Hilde forever, so there’s no real surprise there. My guess is he’s actually the main reason people have been bitching about Hilde, as there have literally been like 3 people to win majors with Hilde (including Ceirn). There’s always been more Voldo players, lol.
I’m actually pretty happy a Vader main made it, he’s an interesting character.
And exactly 1/4 of the qualifiers thus far are from Toronto, lol. We’ll probably see a similar proportion from the Atlanta scene once we get to the southern qualifiers.
Speaking of which, next weekend is the North Carolina regional. This one is actually pretty stacked - a bunch of said Atlanta players are coming, along with kPc (arguably the best Siegfried in the US) and Promiethius (a very strong Maryland player, uses Nightmare I think).
