I’ve had a lot of request from people to run tournaments for other games at the Salty Runback. The main tournaments keep me fairly busy, so I’ve been thinking of how to accomplish this without impacting the other events. The solution I’ve come up with is to have a rotating side tournament in the area next to the bar. To determine what the game will be, I’ll be creating a poll before each tournament and allowing people to vote on what they want to play. The process would work like this:
-
After each tournament, I will start taking nominations for games in this thread. This will go for about a week.
-
After a week, I will create a poll with the games that people have nominated.
-
Voting ends at midnight the Friday before the next Salty Runback. The game with the most votes at that point will be the side tournament for the event.
A couple of details:
-All side tournaments will be 21+. Sorry minors, but no one under 21 is allowed in the bar, and we don’t have space in the restaurant for a third game.
-We’re only doing one game per event. There are two reasons for this. First, crowding multiple tournaments into the bar will take up space that we need for seating. With close to 70 people showing up every event, we need to maximize space. Second, having multiple side games will make it eve harder to get people to play marvel and super matches. 1 at a time seems manageable.
-If you are going to nominate a game, you must be willing to provide setups and people to run the side tournament. Think of nominating as you signing up to be a tournament runner. SSF4 and MVC3 take enough effort, and I won’t be able to handle a third event in the bar. If the person who nominated it doesn’t show up with a setup, or have a replacement, it doesn’t happen. Period.
-Any game is eligibile. You guys are making the choice, so whatever you want to play. It doesn’t even have to be a fighting game.
-There are also no limitations on how you run the tournament. If you nominate the game, you’re in charge. Any rules/entry fees/etc are fair game. Again, you’re the tournament runner.
-To keep the rotation going, the same game can’t be run two events in a row. In the event that we don’t have any other games to run we will make an exception, but I want to accomodate as many games as possible.
So, go nuts. Let me know what stuff you want to run. I will make the poll on Friday.
