i have a question. say im faceing a ken. and i do a cross up with Jumping Mk. my usally go to move after that is Cr.mp. but before i can even do that they manage to mash out a dragonpunch. is this not a true blockstring? or is my timing just way off? please help me on this because this has been bugging me
There’s a gap between it because the hit stun is not long enough. Ken is not the only one who can mash out a reversal.
If they are doing it a lot, start baiting it. A mashed out but blocked DP is a free, hard punish for you.
instead of doing a Cr.mp would a Cr.Lp work out better?
say
Cross up Jumping Mk > Cr.Lp>Cr.Lp>Cr.Mk>Fierce Dragonpunch
Yes it will because cr. lp comes out faster. Also try to delay your cross up jumping mk so it hits when Ryu’s kinda getting close to the ground to make it string even better.
hmm thanks.
I’m loving hit confirming with c.lp [frametrap] c.mp, c.mk into EX donkey if it hits (use lk+mk so you don’t even have to check if you have a bar, if not you’ll get a mk which will still combo) If it’s blocked, use hk leaving you at +1 to go into c.lp and start your pressure again.
Is it still possible to link anything after a close range standing hk? I could do it in the original sf4 but i’m having trouble in sfxt. Would something like Ex joudan,ST.hk,HP srk in the corner be possible?
was just messing around and training mode and i’m not sure if it’s been posted already or not but you can do ex joudan, juming mk,cr.mp. I’m trying to see if that can lead to a stronger combo then the standard ex joudan, jumping hk, hp srk but so far it’s a bitch to land anything at all after the cr.mp but ii’m no combo meister.
A good o/s for people mashing DP is to hold down/back after your jump in and do a slightly delayed attack. If they DP you block, if not you get your attack out, maybe even scoring a counterhit.
will test this out in training mode and start using this. thanks!
This does indeed work. I got knocked out of the SFxT tournament at Civil War yesterday thanks to this.
Replace the first c.mp with a c.lp and you’ll create another frametrap. I don’t think the 2nd c.mp at the end will connect after a donkey kick due to pushback, I’d use a c.mk.
I do this now as well for all characters. The second c.mp will connect if the you get a counter.
Using s.lp is even better. It has more range and will only whiff if they’re mashing an attack that lowers their hitbox. In that case go to c.lp. You need to know how to switch it up a bit, though. Hk joudan is really slow. If they mash a normal in between c.mk and the joudan, you’ll get beat by it. So, you’ve got to cancel to fireballs and stuff when necessary.
When I learned mashing can hit you through c.mk and joudan I started to question how effective (or not effective) of a pressure tactic joudan will be as the game progresses. People can just mash normals once they block c.mk. Cancelling into fireball is still a true blockstring, so their normal won’t come out and they’ll continue to block. CADC backwards recovers too slow to be able to punish a whiffed normal and CADC forward can be beaten with jabs. Did you find a consistent way to discourage buttons after low forward?
To be honest…people had just started doing that to me…and then I haven’t really played the game in like a week. So, nah, I haven’t yet. Thought of trying the different joudans to see if they’d frame trap them, but I haven’t tried to test it yet.
After some experimenting, low forward into a slightly charged fireball works well. It’s not that much damage but it can make the other person more hesitant to press anything. It works just as well after sweep if you keep getting jabbed out of sweep CADC pressure.
just curious is st.lp,cr.rh still a one frame link? Cause i can get it like 90 percent of the time yet i can hardly ever land cr.hp,cr.mp which is also said to be a one frame link.
If you end your EX Donkey Kick BnB’s with a light tatsu rather than heavy one, it pushes them far enough for you to perform a cross up tatsu mid-screen if they quick stand. Can’t explain how many times I’ve gotten people in my local scene with this one.
i do this too haha
