Ryu now this is my character he’s a monster with the combos he works really well on the cross combo attacks I enjoy demolishing people with him

what’s the best option for ryu coming in from a tag or launch? right now i’m only using s. hp > hp srk

Coming from a tag from the corner, cr.HP xx HK Joudan > cr.HP xx Fireball/Tatsu/EX DP.

This is just my opinion so far but 1 character link combos seem to be the most optimal way to do damage, also, tagging takes away all your recoverable health.

Chains scale harshly and gives the opponent a significant amount of recoverable health. 50% damage of chain combo damage is recoverable health but links and target combos are -33%(?). 20% damage of special moves turn into recoverable health, including chip.

That’s what I’m getting from the guide anyways, not exactly sure what it means by -33%, maybe a typo?

I like to do cr.mp, cr.hp > Ex. Joudan > j.hk, cr.mk > Tatsu for a 1 meter punish (381 damage). I know there’s a more powerful combo ending in cr.hp > dp somewhere but I’m inconsistent and sometimes just get the dp without the cr.hp ( or the cr.hp isn’t withing range). For this reason I go for consistency. When hit confirming off of cr.mp I’ll do cr.mp, cr.mp, cr.mk > Ex.Joudan > j.hk/hp, cr.mk > Tatsu for 364 damage.

Tagging Ryu in I’ve just been coming in with cr.mp, cr.hp > Tatsu. I’m at work now but can anyone tell me the damage difference between this combo and the cr.hp > hk.Joudan tag in combo?

I had the oportunity to go trainning mode and noticed that ryu’s escape tatsu is there actually, not as good as sf4’s one but almost as good as it.

You can combo f+mp (overhead) after a jump in f.HP or f.HK and you can link st.lp or cr.mp after the f+mp if the opponent is standing.

Pretty good mix up, because if u counter hit a bad AA, you can combo f+mp, st.lp, cr.ml, st.hk, launch or ex donkey kick. If not, you get an overhead that u can tag cancel.

You can also combo sweep after a close lk.tatsu if no one has figured out yet, the link is pretty tight.

You can combo off of Ryu’s overhead if you tag cancel during it,I know at least 4 frame normals will connect afterwards,but I am not sure what the advantage actually is.Also they don’t have to be standing for this,works on crouching.

slouch… ryus DP in vanilla sf4 was 160 as well lol. some good damaging combos for ryu is jump hp > c.mp > c.mp > c.mk xx EX Joudan Kick > j.hk c.mk xx hk.tatsu = 413 dmg i believe for an example.

Any other use for the dash cancel other than frame traps and grab?

Who do you guys feel synergizes well with ryu? I am having a lot of trouble deciding on a second.

I’ve been using Ryu/Bison (Ryu offensive gems/Bison defensive/onslaught). Anyone can think of someone who may be better synergized with Ryu? SF4 made me hate Ryu so much just because people just mash with him, but I’m playing him anyway. I’ve also tried Vega (offensive, or defensive with his pokes), Ken (Offensive), Guile (Defensive).

I’m having a hard time doing the donkey kick after doing cr mp cr mp cr mk.

Use the HCF shortcut: when doing the cr.MK, go to down-back, then all you need is the QCF after that.

Ryu seems so damn strong in this game! He also seems to be a great partner to just about anyone else… I like playing him on point more then secondary though.

His pressure up close with cr mk into fireball, relatively fast overhead and good cross up options seem to scare people so much… and if you touch anyone you can confirm great damage, Ryu hits hard! :slight_smile:

Can someone please tell me what the “f” stands for in f.hp?

Ryu’s cr.mk = LOL @ CAMMY! If she jumps, Shoryuken her ass!
