The Ryu Matchup Thread - Good Ol' Fundamentals

Disrespect lol. Sim has trouble with jf.lk and sweep. You can whiff punish his limbs too

Thisā€¦ really works lol

plus that heavy tatsu meaty tech and i feel like a total scrub against Dhalsim

Any tip on how to deal with a Karin that goes for cross ups and ambiguous crossups on every knockdown?

So I watched tokido vs haitaniā€¦ stunfest

I donā€™t really understand this matchup. I just seems very guess the entire time

After tatsu does ryu get a safe jump?

What is the approach here? It seems entirely psychologically

Typically necalli loses the midrange, but things can go so terribly wrong here

Mess up her timing by not quick rising all the time.

I donā€™t understand the Bison match up. All he does is turtle and does safe scissor kicks. Mash buttons that out poke me. If I try cross up jump he dashes forward and teleports through. If I dash forward I get swept by his near full screen sweep. How does anyone approach this dumb match up? Just mash DPs and hope it catches scissors?

No.

Pay attention to his charge.

When he has charge, play it safe. Prepare to NJ or block etc.

When he doesnā€™t have charge, play footsies.

Bison generally has bad anti airs. Jf.lk is good.

Donā€™t bother with v trigger. Use v reversal Everytime, especially in the corner. Once you are in, rush him down hard. Bison players like to mash that crouch tech so prepare to shimmy

When heā€™s rushing you down, simply donā€™t press anything, and when you get a chance, vreversal

Need help dping after i get crossed under. What is the correct input if iā€™m on p1 side, I jump, get air jabbed, they dash in, Iā€™m now on p2 side.

Anyone have any success with this?

i just do the auto-correct dp motion, doesnā€™t always works though D:

The reverse motion.

Just do the same motion but hit punch late. Go into training and set the dummy.

Honestly though youā€™re probably better off just using jab for a reset.

Hey guysā€¦ I know this is a basic question but I really need helpā€¦

My fireball game is lacking and its the reason why I get tagged by long distance normals because Iā€™m always so aggressive.

Whats the best way to improve your fb game? What should I do?

From my experience, isnā€™t throwing fireballs at all, unless i notice they are afraid to jump or to bait a risky anti-fireball move.

it isnā€™t worth eating a jump-in combo vs 60 damageā€¦

I agree. Despite tokido/ daigoā€™s style, I minimized my fireball game to be chip damage finishers after blockstrings

I think fireball minimalism is OK. But thereā€™s still room for a fireball game. I get a lot of success out of zoning some people.

Use hp as an up close poke during footsies

Lp to force the jump

Why the hell he doesnā€™t use jab to stop her divekicks from upcloseā€¦

Im guessing a fb game is important because Ryus pokes are so short and stubby and he has to make up for it with fireballsā€¦ everytime I go to just outside max distance for lets say Karins st.hk and throw Iā€™ll try whiff punish from a safer distance but theres always a chance of her st.hk clipping you and CCing youā€¦

Argh this is still a weaknessā€¦ need to form a fireball game just dont know how to train it.

Our guy @Highlandfireball made a video about it on his channel

Any advice vs fang?

FB pressure typically isnā€™t too successful as a primary strategy but can be useful to compliment to your other skills (spacing, normals, dashes, throws, neutral/forward jumps) in neutral. The more you things you condition your opponent to worry about the higher FB success will be.
