The Rurouni Kenshin Movie

I agree with the Aoishi part. I thought the whole character of Aoishi in the movie was a disappointment… not just the story but the whole look of Aoishi was just bad. He looked old as hell… story wise, him going around looking for kenshin due to ego and then helping him later on after losing was kinda lame IMO. They definetly should have had him in the 1st half or atleast made him the leader of the gun dude or something.

edit: the final battle between Kenshin and Shishio was just ok for me.

Here is a small clip of the fight…

Well it is nice that unlike typical shonen fights being 1 on 1 with a spectators of other qualified fighters who COULD hop in and help out. We have all four attempting to take shishio down.

Anyone got a link for torrents of the Legend Ends. I’d watch it again.

Didn’t know the 3rd one was out and subbed already? If anyone got a link, lmk.

Lol, i was wondering why this thread was still active. There were two more movies. Damn. Downloading inferno now. I really enjoyed the first one.

I saw that the RAW on the 3rd movie is up on nyaa.se Just waiting on subtitles likely within the next few days.

It is hardcoded chinese subs though, so if you can read chinese you’re golden.

Found some shitty subtitles and skimmed through the movie with it.

[details=Spoiler]The final battle was kind of meh. It felt really forced/rushed for Aoshi to just suddenly show up to the fight. Like others have stated, it would have had a bigger impact if he was involved in the first movie. Also Sano joining in on the fight was kind of dumb… like why didn’t Shishio just slice him up?

I got mixed feelings about Kenshin’s final technique. It occurred at a time where him and Shishio were both about to keel over anyway. Also, not having any backstory/explanation of the technique was disappointing. I guess it’s just there to please the fans, but if you have never seen the anime, then you wouldn’t understand the significance of it.

Aside from that, everything else was great. The other differences from the anime such as the 10 swords and location of the final battle was all for the better as a live action, imo.[/details]

Will rewatch with better subs.

I managed to find subtitles that are OK or atleast good enough for those who can’t wait.

edit: Subs are still shit though…

There are better subs out now.

I do agree with your post.

“Also Sano joining in on the fight was kind of dumb… like why didn’t Shishio just slice him up?” It’s just like in the Anime, Shishio did not use his sword but his fists. Shishio is the type who wants to show his superiority on a specific combat skill/area which is why against Sano he used physical attacks.

Eventhough I loved the trilogy, I do think the Legend Ends was the weakest of the 3… and sorta brings down the whole trilogy. I can’t say that it was a huge disappointment but i do feel allot could have been done better. It did feel like it was seriously rushed and allot of characters who had big impacts on the anime were taken as jokes here; Usui - the Blind swordsman (i think that was his name… ), just walks through the sand and gets taken out like a punk by Saito. I don’t understand why they didn’t give atleast 2 min of a fight between the two especially since that was one of the best fights in the Anime. Infact, the rest of the 10 swords where also just extras; the monk dude, forgot his name, being given lines just for the sake of filling in the stories of the 10 swords was lame and generally the 10 swords were just people who were only there so that anime fans can go “hey that’s [insert name]”.) I do get that they can’t fit that much in a 2 part film, but I think they should have done a bit more with them in the beach fight. Saito in this movie was a kind of a joke too, i mean in the anime, he was the one who almost killed shishio but in this movie he looked like a complete noob in the fight.

Aoishi for me was the biggest disappointment in the movie, his whole character was completely stupid and just put in there for the sake of feeding the fanbase because he had no thought out information about him. He was some unknown guy who was just hunting Kenshin so he can claim the title as the best. Aoishi should have been in the first fight, not putting him in the first movie was the biggest mistake of the writers because it just ruined the impact of his character in the movie. He should have been that guy (with the guns) who fought kenshin, who’s whole reason for hunting down kenshin was to avenge the events he experienced from the first movie. I kinda wish things went that way and the lines Shishio stated to him “would you want to kill me and send it as flowers for your comrads graves” were put in, instead. I would give this a 6.9/10 to be honest, it was a good movie but i think the movie would have been better if it was 3 parts instead of 2.

The first Kenshin vs Sojiro confrontation was the best fight in the whole movie. The speed and skill shown in the choreography was top notch. It’s probably the best sword battle I’ve seen since Kill Bill.

As for the shonen~y ways the characters actes, at some time it felt awkward in a live action format, but I could suspend my disbelief because of how accurate the characters behaved to their manga counterparts; esp. Sojiro, who was my favorite secondary character in terms of portrayal.

The final battle would’ve been better in its original format, but I understand the change, all in all, I enjoyed the trilogy and hope other manga can be adapted in a similar fashion

Final format meaning each guy fights shishio 1v1? I actually thought the whole 4v1 was the right thing to do.

Ah ok, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the anime so I wasn’t aware that Shishio did the same, but in the anime they didn’t fight 4v1. I just wasn’t aware of the Sano thing. He should’ve had lines talking about it at least.

I also thought the 4v1 was a good thing, although I don’t agree with Sano being in there.

to be fair, Shishio did try to slice Sano up when Sano just jumped in. I agree with the regards of Saito in the final battle. I did expect Saito to be showing more aggression in his fight against Shishio given that at the beginning of Kyoto Inferno Shishio was dropping him men in a fire pit right in front of him.
