The Rufus Match-up Thread

All true. Tested last night as I’m having trouble against good Blankas still :(.

Only bad/unknowledgeable Blankas will use slide/ball incorrectly. Slide is only viable in the scenarios presented above. Again, you cannot punish with slide with U1 from anywhere.

That matchup is really tough man. Rufus basically just needs to get in once and never let blanka out.

If you keep rainbow/backdash in check it’s a little easier, but offensively Blanka can just maul Rufus right back.

Notice the c.lp spam to control the hop space. Also his use of focus and ex messiah to control blanka past Rufus’ effective poke range.

If the Blanka plants himself on the ground and exercises his best options, it’s a grind.

Off back throw, Blanka has an unblockable with meaty j.MK (Ves?)

The Rufus definitely needs to finish his combos in this match. As stated in other posts…DK, :lk:, :mp: xx GT is the go-to. You knock him down, ambiguous DK mix-up, lather, rinse, repeat.

Meterless Rufus can do nothing against Blanka frame traps up close. And even if you do have meter, random EX Messiah is risky and punishable by slide (aka knockdown). Blanka at close range is unmatched by Rufus. Best bet is to block and try and find a different way out (back dash, focus, etc.). As in the video above, spammed crouch jab will shut down hops if they’re giving you trouble, but this is not a great tool when the Blanka is already in your face.

The good news is that you own Blanka in the air, but you have to be crafty with your jumps in your own right. If the Blanka jumps around a lot, j.HK to EX SS will shut that shit down right away. As will cr.MP.

Whiffed vertical ball = j.HK, EX SS/U1. Try to bait on wake up. Rainbow ball gets shut down by c.MP (even EX). If you’re looking to get in without jumping, rolling MK is sneaky but is sniffed out after one or two times.

C.HP is slide-punishable if not done from max range.

This could be said about a lot of matches, but it applies tenfold for this one: the winner of this match is dictated by patience and maximization of damage opportunities.

Good Blankas realize they beat rufus in neutral and don’t need to hop. Blanka can’t hop on any character as long as they are willing to hit buttons to stop it. If you commit to hitting jab I’m just going to slide you on your jab rhythm or walk up and st.hp or something.

As Z mentioned unblockable off of b.throw doesn’t hurt.

So I’m slightly confused after reading everyone’s posts about punishing Blanka’s slide. I’ve been into training mode myself and it seems like Rufus’ U1 punishes Blanka’s slide at everything*** except max range***. Is that right?

Rufus ultra = 9f
Blanka slide at max range = +4
Blanka slide at minimum range = -11

Using the power of “math” I’ve come to the conclusion that means you can only punish the first 3 active frames of slide.

Ok, thanks for the help

All those “coming soons” need to be updated, and the AE characters are missing. Other than than that great advice!

can we get a vs. cammy going on
i fkn hate playing against cammy

What do you hate about her?

Ex dive kick being +15 on block. Shits cray

Hahaha for sure. But I guess I was wondering if there were other things that were giving him trouble. She won’t always have meter

Oh. And I’m having a gang of trouble with Fuerte. No experience :frowning: (other than against bad ones).

If he knocks me down, what should I do? Also, are there any specifics here that are noteworthy? I feel like all of his body presses beat out any air-to-air I try (even wall jump).

I read the thread here and it gave me some decent advice. Anything else?

  • j.HK should beat everything that Fuerte sticks out in the air. Just don’t abuse it all willy nilly. Fuerte can control the air quite well with his specials.
  • Whenever Fuerte doesn’t have meter, that’s a good time to rush him down. He has to waste meter in order to get up safely. Abuse throws and empty jump into cr.LK. Wake up throw beats all his wake up options with the exception of guacamole (if I recall correctly). Once he has U2 try to bait it out.
  • Anytime you block a Splash, punish him accordingly.
  • FA is useful on your wakeup and when you’re expecting him to slide/splash in general.
  • Treat him a bit like Boxer, don’t press buttons when you’re in his danger zone.
  • If Fuerte is backing up into the corner he is baiting you. He will just jump off the wall and try to cross you up.

This is all I have for now. Haven’t played a proper Fuerte in ages.

Thanks! Appreciate it!

Dying in the first round without getting a bar because I got hit and then I guessed wrong on a frame trap/ back throw into unblockable into one hit stun.

And then remembering it wouldn’t matter because it goes over on hit anyways.

:frowning:

Against cammy keep her her away until you have meter, basically cr fp ( this also causes her jumps in miss because of the awkward hurt box ) dont be scared during her offense, its better to eat a counter hit combo then a throw hard knockdown, sweep a lot but safley, of you force her block and wait low it will help a lot in the neutral game.

Id say throwing out cr fp during the neutral game is your best bet in my opinion to. Cammy has a tendency to walk forward a lot (walk speed is practically sprinting) so its kind of nice way to keep her space control in check (also throw in sweeps to when close enough). If shes pestering you with jumping jump back fierce is a good get off. Id say avoiding the hard knockdown is absolutely a priority in this mu to.

Also, this may be a given but id say its important to remember to keep cr.mp at the forefront of one’s arsenal in this match. Establishing a good ground game against cammy begins with keeping her on the ground, and without the threat of cr.mp there isnt really anything stopping her from just divekicking you to death. It can be tricky stopping her divekicks with the mp sometimes but if you get the timing down it will beat them cleanly.

No offense, but you guys need to play better Cammys. Cr.fp is easily focus dashed through for full combo. Sweep is equally as dangerous. This match you basically get one fuck up, I wouldn’t roll the dice on his slowest moves.

Also, found out today that the unblockable also works off of grounded hooligan. So if you get back thrown into unblockable and you ex.messiah out, all they need to do is OS heavy hooligan and you’re back in the unblockable.

Fun match.
