The Rolento General Discussion Thread

I really hope the Bradyguide preview covers rolento, just to see that sick frame data.

It’s -1 on block. Back dash or if he is close enough spam your 3 frame jab. Just watch out for the the 2nd rekka if you choose to spam jab

I still don’t like the fact that Rolento’s Patriot Circle is safe… Not cool.:lame:

his safe rekkas is more like yangs than fei long.

just like yang, he has godlike jabs into c.mk xx rekka x1.

and yes, rolentos patriot circles were never safe on block but then again, he had the scouter jump in every game except this one.

that being said, i’ll gladly take the scouter jump over safe patriot circles. give that move back to him capcom!

so i just got the game and after playing him all night against a friend, heres my impression of him:

-stingers (throwing knives) got nerfed HARD.
it doesn’t nullify fireballs anymore and does pitiful damage. its more like ibukis kunais now. but the worst part is that rolento is locked on the version hes using. in the older games, you do dp+k in any strength and depending on how high or low u want him to throw it, you delay the kick/punch button to launch a high one or press kick/punch immediately to launch a very low one. right now, if you want a low one, you have to use lk and vice versa. also, as i mentioned, you have to launch the knives with punch now.

-i’m not feeling the mekong delta escape (wall jump)
-its really hard to go over fireballs with this move now since he jumps back to the wall so low and jump towards you so fast and low. however, it has some good fast crossup potentials when you’re cornered. sorta hard to use this to runaway too because he jumps so low to the back wall.

-all of the patriot circles x1 seems to be at -4 at worse
considering that now, qcf+lp patriot circle misses when comboed from a max ranged c.mk, its good to have other safe versions of his patriot circle.

-slide is super unsafe if blocked
as mentioned in the fingercramp walkthru, i got punished so many times when using this even at max range. i gotta break the habit of using this move so much

I think patriot circles x1 is -1 on block or maybe -2, but no worse. Ryu’s reversal SRK cannot punish it even if it is in range, and according to the frame data from the Bradygames guide the SRK has still 3f startup. Zangief’s super is able to punish patriot circles on block.

He can combo the qcf+MP+MK team super after regular patriot circles, even midscreen, does nice damage. I also like to use EX patriot circles xx tag cancel, has some invincibility and if it hits I get a full juggle combo, if it gets blocked the frame advantage is good enough for a nice mixup (I use Heihachi as a second character, great high-low mixup with b+LP and f+MP, i also did j.HK/empty jump c.LK mixups after the tag in, not sure if this is somewhat safe though).

I don’t really like the new stinger either, feels very awkward. Maybe it gets better once i get used to pressing punch for throwing the knife, still press kick way too often.

I really enjoy playing Rolento overall, very glad that he is back in this game.

Does anyone know how to do Rolento’s Trial 16? I am so baffled at how I’m supposed to juggle the super after the ex stinger…

so apparently, stinger and mekong delta attack (qcb+p,p) whiffs point blank against opponents. :sad:

I basically am feeling the same as ourorbous about Rolento. I think he is still fun to play, but I am just suprised at how watered down they made things. Sure qcb+p actually seems slightly more useful than in previous games just due to the arc it takes and its semi safe… but no scouter hop means some of his pressure strings are much more boring since he cant cover space. Dont get me wrong his footsie game seems strong, but the changes to his movement are going to take alot of getting used to. I really miss scouter hop.

Oh yeah and stupid combo,

corner ch FP xx ex stinger, cr.mk xx super (probably can do more but I didn’t have time to test it more.

well you can do combo to ex stinger without ch also you can do ex stinger to cr.mk to rekkas.
Also you can combo after the first or second rekka into a tag combo on the ground. The timing is tight but it is possible and might be useful.

Fighting against a Relento is the most annoying thing next to fighting a Vega. His spinning moves are safe and you can easily be stuffed by his s.LP right afterward.
He has an instant air over head and he can get up on his stick and not get hit by low moves.

Wow, didn’t know about this. What’s his instant overhead? Can you get something more out of it (maybe with a tag cancel)?

So I wrong I miss counted this hits on ex knives… can’t combo into it : (

about rolentos rolentos spike rod (air d+mk) and trick landing (kkk):

sadly, his air d+mk isn’t the cvs2/alpha2/x-ism rolento version. that means he does a forced hop after landing. however, if you hold left or right, you can steer him in the direction of your choice and most importantly, you can attack after. if you don’t hold any button, he just does a neutral hop and you’re vulnerable until you land. this goes the same with his kkk

as expected he can set up some crazy crossups. if rolento jumps over an opponent, just remember that rolento doesnt face the opponent until he lands.

that being said, if you want to use the spike rod or trick landing after jumping over the opponent and bounce back to your side, you have to hold forward during.

heres a good fireball punisher for 2 bars:

ex mekong delta attack (ppp, pp), tag opponent in, get full combo of your choice.

you should link stand fierce kick to down mk before anything in corner. really anything in general to get the best damage ie cross up whatever stand jab stand roundhouse down mk then patriot

also in corner do st fk st mk down mk down fk

stinger doesnt seem as good as it was in alpha.

Random info here but the highest damaging combo I can find so far for rolento is j.hk>st.hk>cr.mk>ex patriot circle>st.mk(twice)>cr.mk into super. It does 571 of damage.

Yeah that problably does the most. Man damage scaling for Rolento is annoying I have a tag combo with Marduk that uses 1 ex and it does like 398 but iif I just do Rekkas to super (also for two meters it does 401. Really annoying. I gotta find a better partner I think than Marduk.

if you replace the 3x mk’s with St.Hk -> cr.mk xxx super then it does 574 and is a bit easier execution wise.

i find less is more in this game, try not to put so many hits into 1 combo. 1 fierce > 2 strongs from my experience.

i already found a 503dmg combo for akuma using 1 bar lmao, lets go rolento!!
