Did anyone else notice this subtle shot fired?
I agree with this. The first tourney I played at it really didnât matter to me if i was playing a guy or a girl, still the same game etc. By now I really donât care if there isnât a single other female in the roomâŚand personally I donât get along well with many girls.
But everyones diff, the tournament has already been decided.
I think an âall-female meetupâ would be kinda stupidâŚthe only way girls will actually get good experience etc is playing people above their level, and though there are some girls who are better players, theres more high up guys.
This tournies just a way to get the girls into the scene. A meet up wouldnât be the same as a tournament. You try harder when theres something on the line.
Iâm still 110% for the all female tourney. I think a team tourney would defeat the purpose, then the girl will just lose and the 2 guys will play.
I see what youâre saying but I definitely disagree. If this is the case for uncomforable women, what about uncomfortable men? This year will be my first Evo, I would like to enter the Self Conscious SF4 Tournament as well. If this was an idea to avoid them from feeling embarassed for losing to good players, what about the guys? We have nothing like that. For EVERYONE else, itâs win or lose against whoever it is that they put you against. Itâs just silly. You should go to an arcade, a local tournament or something like that to get comfortable. Shit, do you even want to win a tournament that is so obviously loaded like that? I wouldnât. Youâre giving up before the fight even starts. With mindsets like that, youâre right⌠youâre gunna get stomped out.
This arguement at this point isnât even about gender. Itâs about your own self consciousness. I donât want to make a $2000 trip to Evo and go 2 and out. Chances are high this is going to happen for me though. So what? I should get another tournament to play in with all the other people who arenât confident? No thanks. Iâd rather go 2 and out than win a loaded tournament.
Iâm totally down for more female gamers but itâs really up to you to make the jump and the first move to become comfortable. I just donât think a tournament like this should be at Evo, not as one of the main events. Maybe a side, unofficial, tournament or something. Thatâd be okay I guess⌠but really, go to an arcade or something. Guys arenât that bad, really. And this also isnât a thing about being oogled at the arcade or a tournament. You get oogled EVERYWHERE you go. Just come on out and play some games with the guys, they arenât mean people about people not being great. If they are, fuck em. Most arenât though and would be more than happy to help out a new player
Then they should get over it. Every time I get on GGPO to play with some random person, I am nervous as shit. I donât know anyone, and Iâm afraid of what people will think of me when they see how poorly I play. Iâm a complete pussy. But Iâm not that way because Iâm a girl, and Iâm insulted that having a vagina means I need to be babied. Women can learn to play in the main tournament just the same as men do.
I see what you did there.
just make it a all female team.
You do not need an entire tournament to become involved in the scene. Just post, and play the game. Girls get a lot of love here, i dont see why you feel pushed aside. Men feel as shy as anyone else, and quite frankly im suspicious of all âi donât get along with girlsâ comments - as this is seemingly true for everyone.
LOL at the girl already saying that girls will lose to guys. Donât act like every girl is at your level of scrubbiness. I think the problem lies more with cowardice than anything, and that is just not something that should be associated with the fighting game community(I typed that all out wtf). You donât have dress like a man to have a pair of balls, you just have to posses the spirit to NEVE BACK DOWN. Man the should totally be a movie title!! Fuck yeah!!
Thats me alright, big, black, and subtle. Just call me the Red October.
I think that would be an amazing tournament idea. We can all rub our hands together as a group and release positive energy toward each competitor.
itâs funny because i would think the consensus would be totally opposite, with guys wanting the girls to compete in a different tourney all together while the women are fighting to be included and seen as equals with the males.
the females are arguing that itâs because theyâre âuncomfortableâ or âshyââŚbut honestly, what in the world does that have to do with anything? competition in general is exhilarating and meant to get you nervous, and if youâre saying you donât want to feel the pressure or would like a more comfortable environment, then a tournament is definitely not the way to go.
here we have guys basically saying, âcome on and join in on our tournamentâ and youâre standing on the sidelines saying, âno, itâs okay, weâll have our own girls tournamentââŚbut at the end of the day, you still want to be seen as a decent player (regardless of gender)? tell me thatâs not having your cake and eating it too.
^ this is the case in a lot of situations. we just dont âget itâ
LOL. Sarcasm is hard to detect online though Iâm pretty certain youâre agreeing with me thereâŚ
I would love to see more girls coming out to game. I personally would offer any and all advice I could to help them get better. Would do anything I could to have them feel comfortable in our local scene. But I would do this for any guy as well. Gender doesnât matter. Donât belittle yourself or your own potential. Girls could just as easily whoop ass on the guys.
Actually if you closely read the last couple of pages, âthe femalesâ disagree among ourselves.
âi want to make as much as a man does, but i still want him to pay for my dinnerâ
the guys are practically begging the ladies to play in the tournamentâŚitâs like lebron asking boobs mccleavage to forget the wnba and join the nba. geezâŚ
itâs actually funny because some are saying girls are just shyâŚbut the guys are pretty much welcoming them to join the main tournament. Iâd think joining the female tournament would prove the point of the shyness. Not like people arenât willing to help out if youâre new or ask a question.
well in fairness its important to point out that women have a lot of extra expenses in life. Obviously we donât have to care about that though.
why is there a group of people surprised that men would welcome women into the tournament? I personally welcome women wherever i may be.
barring an actual physical reason there should be no divide.

and thatâs the thing. Most females donât feel the need to waste time into learning something they take seriously. Even if they attend EVO alone/with friends/with BF. Theyâll play casually, but they wonât bother with the tournament because they donât have time in their hands to train like others. Not a matter of shyness, just âthereâs more important things in lifeâ.
I have a well-developed sense of irony, Iâm afraid.
Completely agree, but I would like to add that words mean as much as actions (e.g. gendered language).
if youâre using the term âwaste timeâ then youâre wasting time. do what you like wholeheartly, and donât fault others for doing it.
Important things in life are relative. Ever read the defense? We dont need to cater to people who suck at street fighter.
this is a tournament based on work, not based on who found the time to work on something while doing other things.
yeaâŚwhich then in turn makes your point of being at EVO even more stupid in the longrun. If youâre going, at least play some games. If you think youâre good enough to enter the tournament, donât sit there wonder, enter.
