The road to tourneys

Hi all; I;ve no idea where to post this so started a new thread.

I would very much like to become a tourny player of SF4 but have no idea how to go about it. With that in mind, this thread has two purposes. 1) to answer some question I personally have. 2) for gamers who want to become GREAT to get required help.

there are two questions I have in mind in particular. Firstly, I often play, for fun, against people who really have no idea what theyre dong ( my girlfriend for one, who just mashes buttons) I sometimes find myself repeating habbits I’ve formed from these games in competitive matches. Is it detrimental for me to be playing others who are at an absolute zero in terms of skill?

Secondly: playing online. This sounds like an excuse, but I often lose matches because of minimal lag. I main Ryu and I use advanced techniques that require fine timing. Does playing online hinder gaming when its at the absolute top level (which im not yet, but hope to become) and should I try to find more matches offline rather than online?

all in all; I suppose I just want advice on the best ways to maximise the efficiency of my time so I can become a truly great gamer.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Subscribed. Id like to know as well!

play people that are better than you. and by better, i mean beat you cleanly on a consisten level. add them and play them A LOT. play them until you begin to beat them on a consistent level.

look at online as training, not fun as you like to put it. play to win every time. fuck saying GG’s to ppl, just win.

never have a set strategy. always be ready to adapt on the fly.

play a lot of mirrors. this has helped me a lot. ive stolen so many blanka techniques from other blanka mainers, ive created my own style.

those are the best ryus ive played. play them youll see why.

goodluck.

Go to local ranbats, if there are people in your area that hold get togethers; you need to play actual people that are very good in person, not only people that are good from online. It’ll help for when you do go to a serious tournament in the are, the same people from the ranbats will be there.
