The RGV Thread - As South As South Can Get Part III

I am guessing there is no WNF today, right? I finally got my car back monday. I am sure most of you all are preparing for evo though.

WNF went down but I didnā€™t stick around more than a hour, I am busy packing/not being able to sleep >.<

It will be going on next week for sure! See you then ;3

Good luck to all our players out there at EVO. Hope to see one of you sneak out out of your pool.

Day 2 update:

Played against few of these guys online on ps3 when I had mvc3 game and surprise to see them make it out of their pools. Pool 11 in particular surprise to see Psycho Gorath make it out of his pool in losers. Have him on my friends list on psn.

Any word on BBH anybody??

Any stream parties going on for tomorrows finals? Harlingen needs to get something going on. I can bring my share of food or drinks.

What are you talking about?

Nothing bro, just saying that Iā€™m surprise to see one of my psn friends make it far but heā€™s been eliminated lol!! And whatā€™s with the valley not making it far in mvc3? If an 8yr old boy (Noah The prodigy) can beat pros and make it top 48 at EVO for mvc3, whatā€™s with the valley? Maybe he had an easy pool or people didnā€™t take him seriously because of his age but he kept me entertained for sure.

That boy is on another lvl man lol, he abuses the system! I respect his none mixup, mixups!!!

That 8yr old boy can probably rape everyone in the valley:pray: itā€™s embarrassing :shake:

Well, you said it as if you were surprised because he sucks or something. Heā€™s a ā€œfriendā€ on your PSN list. But heā€™s a friend of mine irl, back from our NC days. Gabe Knowles aka Psycho Gorath. Not sure if you were trying to judge him based on your online experience. Mahvel online is lulz. PSN makes everything 10x more lulz. Not a good medium to judge anybody.

P.Gorath may not win Wednesday Night Fights events, but he does very well. Especially considering the level of comp at Wednesday Night Fights. These weekly WNF events have pretty much more comp than the entire east coast. Heā€™s a solid player who blows people up with Shuma. Not an easy task at all.

LONG VERSION:
Isolated beast syndrome. Too many kids got catapulted to local ā€œfameā€ and ā€œgahwdlyke!!1!ā€ status on these new games. They do just enough to beat the locals, and figure they are beasting, no reason to get better.

Some will argue, ā€œbut I have no real comp, how can I get better? Better comp, makes you a better player.ā€ Arguably true, yet at the same time arguably false. But the following however, is fact. When you are losing because you are throwing out full screen EX moves, or doing moves that arenā€™t safe, both situations KNOWINGLY because out of ā€œhabitā€ā€¦ ie your friends donā€™t properly punishā€¦ thatā€™s not lack of comp. It may sound like it, but itā€™s not:

ā€œwell if I had better comp, I wouldnā€™t do that because I would get punished"
or
"Nobody ever punishes that move right, so itā€™s habitā€

See, it can sound like lack of compā€¦ but think about it. You knew those moves were unsafe. You knew the moment you threw it out against your non-punishing friends, you were getting away with bullshit. So thatā€™s your fault. You as a player threw them out because you were too lazy to learn how to play with those moves in the proper situation. There is a difference between ā€œwow, I really didnā€™t know that was punishableā€ and ā€œdammit, somebody is actually punishing thisā€. Iā€™ve seen so many locals do stuff that they know damn good and well is punishable. Then they go out of state, and some actual player goes, ā€œseriously kid? Eat this. Enjoy your dinnerā€.

I remember being at an NE1 Lan tourny. Some Ryu player lost to a Ken player. And he goes, ā€œnobody plays Ken in my area, I didnā€™t know what to doā€. Not sure if he was lying or not, but I lolā€™d inside. Because he didnā€™t anti-air once the entire match. He controlled the ground pretty well, weather he knew what he was doing or not. But when Ken went airborne, he came down safely and on the offensive. As their battle progressed, he jumped more and more. Got to the point that Ken was always airborne. He realized, air is free to roam property and decided he would approach Ryu that way. Had Ryu shut down the air, that Ken player was free. Ken was getting murdered in the footsies/spacing game, and desperately took to the sky. Ryu player, instead of realizing this, opts to go with the ā€œI donā€™t have x character comp, so I lostā€ statement. Which is bullshit. He lost because he was to lazy to incorporate a dragon punch into his game.

TL;DR:
Knowing their local comp sucks, some players choose to not maximize their ability and game because they can get away with bullshit and be lazy. And because they donā€™t know any other way, they end up applying that unsafe or lazy gameplay at tournies vs out of valley comp. (again, KNOWING that style or move is unsafe/lazy)

Just got back
Had to miss the finals cause I need to work tomorrow, but it was a blast
I lost to a Wolverine/Sent/Phoenix team
it was still fun thoughā€¦

And yeah I dont know why this EZ guy is so obsessed with the level in the valleyā€¦
Iā€™m not trying to take anything away from Noah, but all his opponents had a serious handicap with everyone in the room booing them and no experience dealing with that (Im pretty sure most of them felt they would be the underdog on a match on stage)

Anyway yeahā€¦ a lot of kids from here enjoy the title of king of scrubs a lot and dont practiceā€¦ its just the way it isā€¦ thats the kind of players that these games produceā€¦but oh well, yall hit me up if ya want to play some 3sOE when it comes out.

why so you can lol at me for trying :(, jk, i wouldnt mind learning the game since 3s david and foley made it look mad fun

Not obsessed with the valleyā€™s playing level, the valley has great talent and Iā€™ve seen it myself!! However I have to disagree with J.D on Noahs opponents being ā€œhandicapā€!! Just because people booed doesnā€™t mean they were handicap. I believe they underestimated him because of his age pretty much.

A team with wolvy on it eh JD what a surprise =P

Ez I dont know kind of have too go with JD playing on that main stage if you dont have the experience of playing in front of that many people watching it can get too you most high caliber players have nerves of steel too not let things like that affect there game or if the crowds with you feed off of the energy playing in front of a crowd like that can have an affect on you.

Holly fuck EVO was crazy. Latif eliminated Tokido, then Daigo, then Poongko. Thatā€™s a hell of a track record. Mad props and respect to Latif.

I was rooting for Viscant to win MvC3 the whole time. Gotta root for the old schoolers so glad he won. Mortal Kombat had me screaming at the screen to.

EDIT: Biggest EVO FAIL of all time

And I know I canā€™t be the only one to see the giant salt shaker in the background. That shit had me laughing everytime I saw it LOL.
